The Philly Heat 14 and Under grabbed third place at the "In The Zone" tournament in Allentown Pa. after a strong 2-1 showing in pool play, they fell to eventual champion, Faith Christian 57-50 in the semi-finals. Though Philly played without two starters, they almost stole this title. Harold Hicks led the Heat with 18 points, followed by Bahim Hall's 11 points and 10 rebounds. Haneef Lott scored 10 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished five assists. Davon Gaskins grabbed seven boards and Javez Reynolds added five points.
In pool play, Philly got off to a good start, setting a team record in an 81-6 romp over Lehigh Valley Youth Assn. Hicks (15 points) led five double figure scorers, followed by Lott (13 points), Justin McCord and Hall (12 points each) and Reynolds (11 points). Next, they defeated Pine Forge 56-37. In their third game of the day, they were defeated by the Downtown Youth Center of Allentown 59-48.
Now is a great time for the "Red" to be playing solid basketball, since they are preparing for their opener in the Hank Gathers League versus Da Hollow on January 4th.
On the following Wednesday (January 11), they open their Paley PAL Playoffs versus Brickyard. A win will send them to the semi-finals.
