The Philly Heat take much pleasure in announcing that six of their players are attending college this fall. While they will be missed on the court, their success is what makes the Heat program so special. They are: William Hayes-Webb (Simon Gratz) and Donald "Biggie" Curtis,(Simon Gratz), who are both attending Adirondack Community College in Queensbury New York. Hayes-Webb and Curtis are two major additions at Adirondack, as coach Bill Haskell looks to return his team to top form in 2004-05.
Hanif Hopkins (Penn Charter) will attend Kutztown State University, as will Dennis "Mink" Davis (Lincoln High).
Maurice McPhearson (Lincoln High) will be a red shirt freshman at Cheyney State University and Kenny Williams (Roxborough High) will join two former Heat players at Lackawanna Community College
Hayes-Webb, Curtis and Hopkins will soon be inducted into the "Philly Heat Legends Club", for their dedication on the basketball court and their behavior off it. The Philly Heat are proud of all they accomplished!
Three Philly Heat Players are also attending prep school this fall. They are: Steve Hassell and Dionte Christmas, who are studying at Lutheran Prep (Philadelphia) and Thomas Wilkerson , who is going to Philadelphia Christian Academy. Hassell, who is already the team's all-time leading career scorer (3600 points). Their high school careers are in "over-time", giving them an opportunity to improve their SAT scores and their basketball skills.
COLLEGE PLAYER NOTES: Dawud Morris (Lackawanna Sophomore) is expected to be a major part of his team's drive for the National Junior College championship. Morris was Lackawanna's third leading scorer (he tallied over 2000 Heat points) and second leading rebounder as a freshman. Look for many division 1 schools to have interest in Morris this spring.
John "Wes" Davis has transferred into Bucks County Community college. Davis red shirted last season and though he he is sophomore, he still has four years of eligibility remaining. Davis scored over 2000 points and made over 500 assists during his four year Heat career.
Miguel Mendez transferred to Hartnell Junior College in California. Look for the high scoring Mendez to put up big numbers for Hartnell, which averaged over 100 points last season. Mendez was one of the City's leading scorers in high school. His biggest game for the Heat was 42 points.
Ray Williams (Cheyney soph) will be looked to for major production for the Wolves. Look for Williams to put his extensive talent to work more and more as the season progresses for the vastly improved Wolves.
Jeff Graves, who is a Lackawanna Soph, will see his role expanded for the coming season. He was the team's leading rebounder and started for most of his freshman season.
