The Basketball Beat: Super 25 AAU Teams
With the high school and college seasons long over (at least it feels like it’s been a long time to hoops fans, including me), recruiting season is now in full swing for college coaches. Since the coaches already have locked in who is coming from the Class of 2005 (with the exception of a few who may go directly to the NBA draft), they are now focusing on the Classes of 2006, 2007, and even 2008 (and beyond). Coaches have many opportunities to see these high-schoolers play at the various AAU tournaments going on around the country. Here is the first version of The Basketball Beat’s “Super 25” AAU teams, along with the players who are among the most highly recruited in the nation for their high school class. We have also included some highlights of tournaments from this year at which they have done well, along with some key wins this year for each team.

A Brownstone in Brooklyn By Julius Thompson
Julius Thompson covered high school sports for The Philadelphia Bulletin from 1971 to '82,
Many current athletes and former readers will remember Julius from his Bulletin days,
Julius now lives in Georgia and has become a published author. The Philly Heat are proud to provide a link to his website and we hope that you consider purchasing his first novel.
A New novel, set in Philadelphia is due to hit the shelves soon.
IMANI BOOK CLUB REVIEW
Julius Thompson's novel is a wonderful story of a young man making it in this world where obstacles can be crossed. The story of family support and neighbor support reminds you of the olden days when your neighbors were just like your family. The dialogue at times seems simplistic and overly dramatic. Some portions of the story could have been more developed to engage the reader to be more empathetic and understanding of all characters especially Andy. With more development of Andy's character in the beginning, the reader would better understand things as they happened in his life. As the story moves along, you do get a better understanding. The novel does begin slowly, but it gains momentum and you will be hard pressed to put this story down. With just a little fine-tuning, this novel would be the perfect novel to give to young African-American males to instill in them the belief that anything is possible with faith, courage and understanding. Very refreshing

North Light Community Center
North Light Community Center: is a place where... children come to learn and play...where their parents come for advice and assistance. Where neighbors meet... to discuss community issues... and new solutions are forged.
Since 1936, North Light has worked to make the critical difference in the quality of life in our neighborhoods. We are a central focus of community life and the meeting ground for diverse community activities.
Over the years, North Light has evolved from a drop-in center for boys into a multi-service center with an ever increasing mix of offerings from arts and recreation programs to employment services and emergency support. These programs meet important needs for over 3,700 community members of Manayunk, Roxborough, Wissahickon and Andorra.
Together with dedicated volunteers, North Light has initiated many important community organizing, development and enrichment initiatives.
