"Vez", who is competing in his third Heat season, tallied 49 points, often on important possessions, to climb  1435 career points. He recently passed D. J. Newbill, who is averaging almost 20 points a game in the top Summer Camps in the USA.

Nakief Williams became the newest member of the Philly Heat 1000 point club, as he helped the 15 and Under Squad win the chip at North Light C. C. He became the 11th Philly Heat player to score 1500 points, when he hit the game winning shot as the Heat topped the Stars 66-65 in over-time in the New Sigma League. at Ben Franklin High.  He fired for a career high 40 against the D.C. Assault at the Capitol Events National Invitational Semi-Final (An 81-75 win) in Washington D.C. when he went over the 1000 point mark. Trawick reached the milestone in 56 games (18+ PPG). Newbill drained 54 points in three MYBL playoff games to run his career total to 1614 points in 125 Heat (Record 98-23, Seven Titles) contests. D.J. Helped the Heat win title #7, when he drained a winning shot at the buzzer in the Chip game. He is especially tough to stop, because of his size (6'2") and his ability to shoot from outside. If you choose to double him on defense, to stop his scoring, he unselfishly dominates the game with assists.

In the semifinals, the future looked dark for the Heat, when they fell behind Carmelo's Choice 21-5 in the game's first 12 minutes. Choice played superb full court defense and had an offense designed to disable the Heat's league leading man to man defense. Philly switched completely, to a 1-2-2 full court zone press and press breaking "score first" offense.
The Heat got to within 23-16 at half time and continued to cut into the lead in the second half. Javez Reynolds, Kian Coates, Booker and Hall all scored baskets in the final three minutes to keep Philly within a point of Carmelo's. Williams hit a short jumper to gave the Heat their first lead with 33 seconds remaining. But Choice came back with a put-back hoop with 12 seconds on the clock. view full size
The Philly Heat's upset bid versus the Tim Thomas "Playaz" was going fine from their point of view. A win versus the mighty Playaz would put them within another win of the championship of the Rebounds Roundball Classic in Neptune New Jersey.
They had the ball, trailing 69-67, with two minutes on the clock. A controversial offensive foul call on Brandon Wesley changed everything. Instead of Wesley shooting two free throws for a possible tie, the Playaz scored to put the Heat down four points with 1:30 remaining. Exhausted, and in foul trouble, Philly never was able to recover, falling 78-71.
Early in the second half, the Playaz received a poor call, when mammoth 6’6 Forward Trevor Clemmings was ejected for hanging on the rim after an unsuccessful dunk attempt. This gave the Heat, who were playing eye to eye with them even more momentum.
The Heat were led by Marque' Griffin, who had 22 points, four steals and six assists. His back court partner Harold Hicks scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and dealt five assists. Wesley scored 14 points and grabbed a team high 11 rebounds. Marcus "Worm" Johnson and Bahim Hall added 10 points apiece. Jayon James and Fuquan Edwin led the Playaz scoring.

The Hawks jumped out to a 18-5 lead, using a combination of size, strength and jump shooting. The younger Heat responded by going on a run of their own, getting the game tied at 25 apiece late in the first half. The highlight was Octavious Booker's two hand slam-dunk over two Hawk defenders. The Hawks were able to keep Philly at bay the rest of the contest.

The Philly Heat 14 and Under "White" defeated the Keystone Blazers "Blue" 41-37 to take the championship of "The Best Of Philly", the areas first big tournament. It is sponsored by Positive Image Basketball. The Heat are emerging as one of the City powers and the Blazers of Conchahocken are always tough in the Middle Atlantic AAU.
Philly got off to a strong start as Darren "D.L." Lawrence (12 points and three steals), Harold Hicks (10 points and six assists) staked out a 14-8 lead in the first eight minutes. But the Blazers dug in for the next 16 minutes, outscoring the Heat by 23-10, to take a 31-24 lead with eight minutes left in the game. As in their big win versus Philly Press, the Heat worked even harder in their man to man defense. Marque Griffin scored eight of his 10 points (5-6 free throws in the last two minutes) and Brandon Wesley (10 rebounds) hit a pair of clutch free throws.
Down the stretch, the Heat outscored the Blazers 17-5. There were many defensive heroes; Will Respes (10 points), had three steals and Octavious Booker grabbed 10 rebounds, Marcus "Worm" Johnson grabbed seven boards and had two blocked shots. Griffin made five steals, and Hicks had three steals and Wesley three blocked shots.

The Philly Heat 14 and Under defeated the Philly Press 48-42, to make the championship game of the "Best Of Philly" Tournament, sponsored by Positive Image. It was the last pool play game and Press (1-2) was desperate. All the Heat (3-0) needed was a win to secure a bid to the "Chip" game.
With 10 minutes remaining, things looked bleak for the Heat, who were trailing 30-23, with their zone defense ineffective versus Press' patient offense. A switch to man to man, which the Heat have been working on, proved to be the game's most potent weapon. The Heat outscored the Press 25-12 the rest of the game.
Harold Hicks (10 points) devoted most his talent to defense (five steals) and assists (eight), who along with Marque' Griffin (Team high 12 points) and Wesley, led the comeback. Will Respes added eight points and grabbed nine rebounds
Earlier Philly defeated Dockry School 57-52, eliminating their title hopes.
Top scores were "Worm" Johnson, Wesley, Lawrence and Respes. Javez Reynolds drained a three point shot late to keep the Heat ahead.
In their first pool game they defeated the Keystone Blazers Red 49-44. The Blazers are a tough Middle Atlantic AAU team. The Heat couldn't shake the the Blazers throughout the contest. While they led almost wire to wire, they never led by more than eight points. Wesley and Lawrence hit big buckets in the final two minutes. Griffin hit two clutch free throws down the stretch. Octavious Booker grabbed a team high 12 rebounds. Harold Hicks dealt nine assists, including two "dimes" in crunch time. Will Respes grabbed eight rebounds. Javez Reynolds added five points.

The Philly Heat "White", 14 and Under Played well in their first Major out of town event, the March Magic Tournament in Altoona Pa. The event is sponsored by the Pa. Prep Report and Big E.K. Sports. Philly placed third, losing to two of Western Pa's top teams; the Keystone Gators in over-time 65-64 and the Pittsburgh Renegades 53-47 in the semi-finals. They defeated the Pa. Hoop Stars 77-53 in pool play and beat State College 79-71 in the quarter-finals. People responsible for ranking Pennsylvania's AAU teams felt that Philly had a strong weekend, but the Heat players felt that they were only a couple of close referees calls away from the championship.
It's hard to focus the defense on one or two Heat players and that's a big reason why they are so tough to defeat. It seemed that there were different stars in each contest. Versus the Hoop Stars, D. L. Lawrence's 16, Brandon Wesley's 13 points led the scoring. Against the Gators, Harold Hicks scored 15 and Marque' Griffin 11 points. In the quarter-finals versus State College, Wesley had 22, followed by Will Respes 14, and Javez Reynolds nine points. In the semi-final against the Renegades, Lawrence scored 13 and Griffin 12 points. Leading rebounders for the tournament's four games were Respes (8.8 RPG), Wesley (8.2 RPG), Octavious Booker and Lawrence (6.5 RPG). Assist leaders were Griffin and Hicks (4.5 APG) and Lawrence (3.5 APG).
The Heat earned a the right to play in The Best Of Philly Classic, March 17-19, sponsored by Positive Image. This event often draws some of the top teams in the area. Past winners include, Positive Image, Hunting Park Warriors and Philly MJC.

HEAT DEFEAT AAU PENN-JAGUARS 68-59

The Heat's "White" team defeated the Penn Jaguars of the Middle Atlantic AAU 68-59, sending a message that they are on the rise in the Phila. area. Playing straight man to man defense, the Heat quieted the high scoring Jaguars through most of the third quarter. By the end of the period, the Jags were starting to figure out how to score, so Philly, neatly switched to a 2-3 zone to open the fourth quarter. They went on a 20-6 run to put the game away.
Brandon Wesley led the Heat with 17 points and had eight boards. Darren "DL" Lawrence added 15 points and seven steals. Octavious "Game" Booker tallied nine points and grabbed nine rebounds.
