PRINCE GEORGE YOUTH BASEBALL ASSOCIATION: Summer 2009 Division Descriptions

Blast Ball 4-5
Blastball is a game meant to put the FUN back in baseball. Blastball provides an ideal entry level of play for the youngster. It is designed to generate fast paced action, provide recreation and exercise, create enthusiasm and through it's simplicity, encourage and teach all 5 basic fundamentals of baseball: hitting, throwing, catching, running and fielding.

No special equipment is required, not even gloves. We use honking bases, a soft spongy ball and a soft rubber bat. All kids are outfitted with a sponsor jersey and baseball cap which is their's to keep.

Coach Pitch 6-7 (7 yr olds that are new to ball)
The next level in our program. This is where we introduce a minimal pitching format to participants. Player"s coaches lightly toss the soft baseball from a close distance to batters. If a player cannot make contact then the ball is placed on a batting tee and then swung at by the batter.

Tadpoles 7-8
The next level of progression where players are introduced to a pitching machine from the mandatory distance. PGYBA starts by using the soft baseball from the Coach Pitch division. This reduces the stress players feel from the hard baseball. We encourage coaches to slowly introduce real baseballs through practice. By the end of the season players will be using real baseballs. More rulesare brought into the game to simulate the actual game of baseball.

Mosquito 9-10
No lead offs and no balks against the pitcher. The base paths are 60 feet and the pitching distance is 46 feet.

Peewee 11-12
Lead Offs are permitted and balks may be called against the pitcher. The base paths are 70 feet and the pitching distance is 48 feet.
