Hockey Equipment guide for Players & Parents
HOCKEY EQUIPMENT GUIDE FOR PLAYERS AND PARENTS.
        

Hockey is a fast-paced game and protective equipment must be worn on the ice at all times.
The following is a list of the required equipment to participate in PYHA Mini-mite hockey program.
§1        Helmet With Face mask
§2        Mouth guards (HIGHLY RECOMMEND)
§3        Shoulder Pads
§4        Elbow Pads
§5        Shin Pads
§6        Gloves
§7        Pants (Breezers)
§8        Neck guards (recommend)
§9        Athletic supporter & cup (jock plus)
§10        Garter belt (hockey socks)
§11        AIR OUT EQUIPMENT
Helmets
§1        All levels of hockey require players to wear a protective helmet.
§2        There are many types of helmets to choose from. It is imperative the helmet you choose is certified by the Hockey Equipment Certification Council (HECC). Look for the label on the back on the helmet.
§3        To ensure a player's safety it is important that his/her helmet fits properly
Face mask
§4        Face masks are required in youth hockey and high school hockey.
§5        There are different types of face masks the most common type is the wire cage.
§6        It is a must the face mask is certified by the HECC.
Mouth guards
§1        Mouth guards are highly recommended to help reduce the chances of a concussion in an impact collision.
§2        Mouth guards can be professionally made by a dentist or bought from the pro shop.

Shoulder pads
§1        Shoulder pads protect your shoulders, collarbone, upper chest, back, and upper arms.
§2        Proper fitting shoulder pads help reduce injury, not bigger improper fitting shoulder pads.
Elbow pads
§1        Elbow pads are necessary to protect against falls and any stick contact.
§2        Elbow pads cover the muscular part of the arm in addition to the elbow.
§3        Elbow pads cover the area from just below the shoulder pad to just above the hockey glove.
Shin pads
§1        Shin pads range from 7 to 17 inches in length and are designed to fit over the kneecap to just above the skate top.
§2        If the gap from the top of the skate to the shin pad is more than an inch it is time for new shin pads.
Gloves
§1        Hockey gloves protect the hand and wrist without loss of flexibility or comfort
§2        It is okay for gloves to be a little large, as long as the padding covers all areas of the hand and wrist
Pants (Breezers)
§3        Hockey pants are protective shorts.
§4        Hockey pants should slightly over lap the shin pad and protect the lower back.
§5        Do not remove the padding from the pants.
Neck guards
§6        Neck guards are made of a very strong material to prevent being cut with skates or sticks.
Athletic supporter & cup (jock plus)
§7        The Jock plus is made by Itech and includes the supporter cup in a pair of shorts with Velcro strips to keep hockey socks up much like a garter belt.
AIR OUT EQUIPMENT
§8        After practice or a game find a place around the house to air out the equipment. This prevents mold and damage to the equipment.
