Congratulations Junior All Stars

UPDATE:

PSW had endured another moonsoon storm before the start of their game Tuesday night in the semi final playoff game. After a one and a half hour delay, we started out giving up an unearned run in the first. But came back like lighting with two runs of our own in the bottom of first.
After Jack De la Montaigne reached first on a leadoff hit, but was gunned down at second on a perfect throw we knew it was a game. Vincent Feifarek singled, Thomas Gillies tripled, Eric Sandrik singled and Johnathon White singled for a 2 - 1 lead. In the third Thomas doubled, Eric doubled and Johnathon singled for two more runs and a 4-2 lead.
But in the fifth Gilbert had 6 hits with 3 walks and a fielding error did the damage. Down 8 - 4 we were still battling.
Jake Graf pitched the final 3 innings and shut down their offense.
Unfortunately a better then average fastball and a knee buckling curve by Gilberts relief pitcher shut us down. 8 strikeouts in the last 4 innings and only one hit was our downfall.
Third Place in State overall as we beat the other semi finalist head to head from the other pool.
Some final stats showed Eric Sandrik and Johnathon White hit .500 each..Thomas Gillies and Vincent Feiferak at .475 and Jack Delamontaigne at .400, all had great offensive at bats.
Thomas, Eric, Vincent, Dylan Johnson and Jake Graf all pitched us through the final 5 games.
All the boys are disappointed but someday they will look back at a great experience in a great baseball tournament and be proud to be District 2 Champs and Third overall in the 2007 State Championship.

Game 4 of Pool Play:

After a vicious monsoon storm all day in Tucson, the game was delayed about an hour and a half, the boys of Sweetwater were ready to play.
After already clinching a spot in the semi - finals, a win against Southwestern, Tucson would give them the first seed of Pool B. Southwestern needed a win to advance to the semi's.
Southwestern took a 3 run lead after one inning. And Sweetwater got one run in the second on Eric Sandrik's shot off the 350' wall in left for a double and a Tyler Caime single. Then in the third after singles by Jack Delamontaigne, and Vincent Feifarek, Thomas Gillies doubled to right center scoring them both. Tyler Caime knocked Thomas in with another single and a 4 - 3 Sweetwater lead.
But in the fifth, Sweetwater gave up 3 runs on 5 defensive errors and lost the lead and many thought they were through.
The bottom of the sixth started with 2 quick outs, then Johnathon White singled and Stephen Menard singled, scoring Brian Novak from first who had pinch run for Johnathon. SW brought in their flame throwing ace, and Jack De la Montaigne drew a walk after fouling off some tough pitches. Vincent Feiferak also walked and with Thomas Gillies batting, the pitcher threw two wild pitches, scoring Steven on one and Jack on the other with the go ahead run.
Vincent Feiferak started and threw a great 5 innings with heavy wet , baseballs it seemed. Dylan Johnson pitched the final two innings and shut them down for the win.
Tyler Caime made a brillant running catch, Thomas Gillies turned a double play and threw another runner out stealing and Jack De la Montaigne made a diving, horizontal, all out catch in left field the tournament officials are still talking about.
Sweetwater now plays Gilbert National from pool Play A and the winner meets the winner of Casa Grande and Red Mountain, Mesa for the State Title.

The Juniors are now 3-0 in the state tournament pool play. Following are updates that come in from Tucson:

Game 2 vs District 10 Champ Sedona.
Vincent Feifarek, Thomas Gillies had two hits each, Tyler Caime scored three runs. A close game, Sweetwater pitchers of Dylan Johnson, Vincent feiferak, Eric sandrik, and Alec lewis held them close.
With two runners on in the third, Jack delamontaigne made a web gem with a diving stop from his position at second base, going to his left , into a full dive and throwing the runner out from the seat of his pants.
Johnathon White closed the close game with getting the final five outs.

Game 3 vs District 3 Champ Diamondback
A win would move the winning team into the Championship Playoffs, Both teams started their aces. A 2 - 2 game going into the 5th inning, Peoria Sweetwater broke it open with a bases loaded clearing double by Dylan Johnson. In the sixth, Alec Lewis added to the support with his own bases clearing double. Vincent Feifarek and Thomas Gillies had three hits each. Erik Sandrik got the win and Jake Graf closed out the final six outs.
A win which moved Sweetwater Juniors into one of the top FOUR teams in the State of Arizona. All on Steven Menards birthday.

The team finished pool play with a 4-0 record!!! They play in the semi-finals on Tuesday, July 24th at 7PM at Tucson Mountain View High School against Chandler National Little League.

Good Luck to the team. They are now one of the top four teams in the state.
