Blevins was named AAAA Honorable Mention at linebacker. Penn Manor's Gatorade Defensive Player of the Year had a total of 125 tackles this past season, which earned him membership in the 2004 Pennsylvania Football News Keystone Club. For the past seven years the PFN Keystone Club has recognized outstanding individual performances for offense, defense and special teams. A two year starter at inside linebacker, Blevins now has a total of 198 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, and an interception.

for the Second Team Offense. Honorable Mention All-Stars were Junior Linebacker Curran Blevins and Sophomore Tight End Jordan Gibbs. After the 2003 season, the Comets also had five players selected as All-Stars, but all were seniors. With three of the five 2004 All-Star selections being returning underclassmen, and with many other underclassmen getting significant playing time, Penn Manor and its new coach should have a solid foundation to build on for the 2005 season.

Brian Chismar
Player of the Year
At the season ending banquet held on November 11th at Millersville's Gordinier Hall, Coach Shawn Maxwell named senior team captain Brian Chismar the Player of the Year. Chismar, a wide receiver, was also honored with the Offensive Player of the Year award. Fellow team captain, Curran Blevins, a junior, was named the Defensive Player of the Year by Maxwell noting that Blevins had 125 tackles this season from his linebacker position. The Rookie of the Year award was given to Sophomore Jordan Gibbs. Gibbs is a two way player, starting at tight end and playing significantly at defensive end. Coach Maxwell gave The Will to Win Award to senior OG/DT Butch Diehl emphasizing his dedication and hard work, especially in the weight room during the off-season. The Special Teams Player of the Year award was given to senior Drew Landis. Landis was another two way player, playing running back and linebacker. Maxwell Resigns
Maxwell
After seven seasons at the helm, Head Football Coach Shawn Maxwell turned in his resignation at the conclusion of the 2004 season. Coach Maxwell was disappointed to say the least in the recent campaign. Maxwell took full responsibility for the lack of success on the field and tendered his resignation in an effort to help the program move forward in a positive direction. Taking over in 1998, after the program had gone 2-38 over the previous 4 seasons under Bill Elder, it was an uphill struggle. The Comets posted 3-7 seasons in 1999 and 2002, but haven't been able to turn the corner with a .500 season. Coach Maxwell came to Millersville with the Wing-T offense, switched to the No Huddle Shotgun and finished with the I Formation in 2004. The Comets were a very young squad in 2004, with few returning starters, with several sophomores either starting or playing significantly. Maxwell will be remembered for implementing the football weight training program in coordination with Russ McDonnell in 2003-2004. The fruits of that program will benefit the Comets well into the future. Shawn Maxwell's record at Penn Manor was 11-59 and he is 42-80 overall in his coaching career.

Comets Come Up Short on Senior Night
Chismar04
Brian Chismar
The Comets burst out of the gates Friday night when senior Brian Chismar returned the opening kick-off 86 yards for a touchdown. Jared Yeager added the PAT to put the Comets up 7-0. After an interception inside Reading territory by junior linebacker, Andrew Doutrich, the Comets capitalized with a short drive which was finished off by Dean Roark when he spun into the endzone for the Comet's second TD of the night putting Penn Manor up 13-0 with just over 10 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. But that wonderful feeling that the players and the crowd had started to remember didn't last. A fumbled snap between QB and center deep in Comet territory opened the door for the Red Knights and was the first of 6 turnovers on the night (3 fumbles, 3 interceptions). Reading's Matt Robinson kicked that door wide open, needing only two carries to take it into the endzone, and the Red Knights were on their way back. The visitors took the lead for good with their second TD with just over 2 minutes left in the first half. The ensuing kick-off was fumbled by Chismar when he was sandwiched between three Red Knight players on the return.
Blevins04
Reading took over at mid-field and found their way into the endzone again with only 22 seconds left in the half, for a 21-13 lead. Matt Robinson kicked it into another gear in the second half and finished with 271 yards on the ground with 3 touchdowns on an amazing 43 carries. Senior all-state player, Roger Hall, caught two TD passes from sophomore QB Abdal Miller. Nick Swinehart tallied his first varsity TD for the Comets on a 3 yard run which made the final score 34-19. The Comet defense was once again led by junior linebacker, Curran Blevins, with 16 tackles. Sophomore defensive tackle, Josh Stambaugh, had the best game of his young career, with 11 tackles. Junior Matt Herr also had 10 tackles from his outside linebacker spot. With 6 Comet turnovers the defense was on the field all night as Reading ran 73 plays, nearly 30 more than Penn Manor. The Comets finished the season 0-7 in the section and 0-10 overall and have lost 12 straight, having last won on senior night 2003 against Governor Mifflin. The Red Knights improved to 3-7 overall and escaped the bottom of the section by finishing 1-6.

"The winners in life think constantly in terms of I can, I will, and I am. Losers, on the other hand, concentrate their waking thoughts on what they should have or would have done, or what they can't do." - Dennis Waitley
