Fundraiser Dinner for the Cohn Family at Blue Water Seafood

PYSA coach and owner of Blue Water Seafood Market & Grill, Matt Braun has agreed to sponsor a fundraiser for the Cohn family this Tuesday, February 21st from 4pm - 9pm. 10% of all dine-in or take-out sales by PYSA members will go directly to the Cohn family. Just let them know that you are from PYSA. Please call in all take-out orders and no reservations for dinning in. Big thank you to Matt for stepping up to help one of our own in a time of need.

Opening Ceremony, Sat Feb 11 from 8:45 to 9:30 am and Other Important Announcements

Hello All,

Opening day is upon us this Saturday, February 11, 2017. The opening ceremony is from 8:45 am to 9:30 am and is one of only 3 occasions the whole league is together during the season. Please make sure to be there with your player in uniform for team introductions. For older division players, opening ceremony is a time to see friends and past teammates. For the little ones, it's a great experience to celebrate and be a part of something new. Opening veremony will feature the JROTC Color Guard, the National Anthem sung by returning 12U player Valerie Stecker (Go Val!) and first pitches thrown by PYSA Alumni and supporter Katie Austin (caught by 12U Madelyn Egan) and longtime PYSA supporter and owner of Hodads, Shane Hardin (caught by 12U Jaysa Nichols). Team pictures will occur throughout the day and the snack shack will be open all day. Please support the league by stopping by the snack shack for refreshments and our famous Hodad burgers. There will also be a helmet air brushing vendor at the fields for any players that want to get their helmets airbrushed. Part of the proceeds go back to the league. It's a good day to spend at the fields to enjoy "Softball by the Sea".

  1. Opening Ceremony Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 8:45 am to 9:30 am. Please make sure to be there with your player in uniform for team introductions.
  2. First games will be played at 10 am.
  3. Game Schedule - The game schedule is posted on the PYSA website. Please refer to the website for the latest schedule update.
  4. Uniforms - Uniforms are in process and will be distributed towards the end of the week to team Managers/Parents.
  5. Picture Day - Team pictures will happen on Opening Day. A schedule will be posted on the PYSA website later in the week and will be communicated to team Managers/Parents.

Closing Ceremony, Saturday May 7th, 9am-10am, Field #6

Hello PYSA families,

A terrific season is rapidly coming to a close. Thanks to all the families and volunteers this season. Closing Ceremony will be Saturday, May 7th, 2016 from 9am to 10am on field 6. Please come down to the fields even if your team is not playing in the final championship games. There will be a lot going on that day, including:

Closing Ceremony
  • Hurder award
  • Presidents Award
  • Volunteers
  • 6U Trophy Presentation to each player
  • All Star teams will be announced. There will be a brief meeting afterwards for uniform sizing.
* Immediately after closing ceremony individual ice cream cups will be provided to each player at the snack shack.

* Snack Shack: Free Hodads burgers, hot dogs and condiments for all players and families, until they are gone. Drinks and other items will still be available for purchase.

* Square (Secure Mobile credit card reader) is now available at the Snack Shack for your credit card purchasing convenience.

* Auction: All items made possible as a result of large PYSA league participation at Padre Softball Night.

* Managers or Coaches: Please return all league equipment and bags to field 7 shed immediately after closing ceremonies. The equipment inventory book will be available for sign in of returning equipment. (5/7 Playoff teams will be collected at the conclusion of their games).

Thank you to the Cooler Breeze Volunteers

Hello PYSA families,

Congratulations to the Blue Lightning & friends! They took 2nd place in 8U at the 2016 Peninsula Cooler Breeze Rec Classic. I would like to say a big thank you to all of the parent Volunteers that came out this weekend to put on a great league fund raiser with the Cooler Breeze Rec Classic. Special thanks to our tournament Coordinator, Willow Kirk, who stepped up to take on this role. She did a fantastic job! I believe we had 20 teams total in the competition which is an increase over last year.

Additional special thanks go to: Steve Ravelette, Whitney Wilkinson, Randy Strauss, Shawn Lenehan, Chuy Alvarado, Rob Schroth and Andy Pickering for their help to set up and maintain the fields.

Additional help in the snack shack includes: Andy Yamashiro, Jennifer and Keenan Pickering, Audra Harris, Susan and Steve Ravellette, Mike O'Donnell, Megan O'Donnell, George DeMerlier, Melody Donnelly, Grace Valdez, and Zoe and John Feher (the fearless snack shack leaders). We did very well in the snack shack this weekend.

ASA Trading Pin Design Contest

Hey everyone!

Each year ASA has a pin design contest for players in the district leagues. The pin design should represent ASA Southern California and softball. It will be used for the 2016 Recreational District Tournament Participation Pin. I happen to know that past participation has been low which means there is a better chance for someone to win. If your daughter is creative and has some good ideas, consider entering the contest. It might also be a good team building activity to get team players together to create and submit a pin design.

Join PYSA Families at Surfrider Pizza

Hey everyone!

Come join other PYSA families at Surfider Pizza for a great fundraising event. The fundraiser is this Thursday from 3 pm to 10 pm at 2163 Abbott St. in Ocean Beach. Surfrider will donate 20% of all beer, wine, walk in and take out sales to the league during that time period. It's a fun, easy way to contribute to the league and build a sense of community. It's also a great way to show appreciation to one of our league sponsors. The Bartocci's will be there. We hope to see you there too!

Opening Day Ceremonies!

Hello all,

Opening day is rapidly approaching and soon it will be time to play ball! Parents and players have been working hard to get ready.

Please note that Opening Ceremony will begin at 8:45 am. Please be down at the field with your player in uniform. Also check with your team Moms for your team picture schedule. We will also have some tables at the snack shack for great items for a silent auction and raffle items. Bring cash or a check book to field if you wish to participate. The money raised will go back to the league.

Souplantation Fundraiser and More!

Hello PYSA Parents,

Check out Facebook. There was a good vibe down at the fields on Super Bowl Sunday. A lot of players came out for the pitchers/catchers clinic. We also had a lot of dads working hard to put up the new yellow fence line protection and some painting going on. The sheds have been stocked with field chalk for the season. Thanks to everyone who contributed time and energy. Please note a few important announcements:

1. Souplantation Fundraising Event, Thursday, February 11, 2016 between 5pm to 8pm - Put it on the Calendar and plan to grab the family and hit Souplantation on 3960 West Point Loma Blvd. You'll be sure to see other PYSA families. Wear past jerseys and/or spirit wear to show your Peninsula pride. The more people that come out and present the flyer, the more money goes to the league for our daughters. Details are also on our Community Events page.

2. Spirit Wear Order Form - PYSA Spirit Wear order form is now available online. Please check out our Spirit Wear page for the order form and pricing. Go ahead and order your Spirit wear now. We want our players and families showing Peninsula pride at school and around San Diego.

1. TEAM NIGHT, Saturday, January 23 - Team night is this Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Point Loma High School (PLHS) auditorium at 5:00pm. Please bring your player to find out what team you’re on. There may be parking around the back or street parking in front of the school.

2. OLD VENICE FUND RAISING EVENT, Tuesday, January 26 - There is a fundraising event starting at 5pm on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Old Venice Restaurant. Please put it on your calendar and come out with the family, friends or, meet with the families of your new team mates. Part of the proceeds that evening from PYSA guests will go to the league. Tell them your with the league. It’s a fun, great way to help the league raise money.

Managers Needed For PYSA Softball Teams!

Hello Parents,

Our league recruitment drive was very successful. We have a significant increase in players this season, especially for the 6U, 8U and 10U Divisions. Consequently we need to find more managers for these Divisions to coach and lead a team. The league will provide training and assistance to make sure each new manager is able to hit the ground running to be an effective coach.

Asking parents to step up and volunteer is challenging. We each have our own jobs/careers, other volunteer work and children to raise. There are always competing priorities. This is a special age, however, and these years are precious. They will be gone before we know it. Our daughters won’t remember all that time we spent at the office. They will remember when their Mom or Dad was with them on the softball field teaching and leading their team. From my own experience I can tell you that coaching is immensely rewarding. You will be surprised by just how much you love it.

Don’t say no right away. Put some thought into it. Discuss it with your spouse. Know that you will have other parents to help you as well as support from other league coaches.

Well, we pulled it off! Assessments are complete. Thanks parents for bringing the girls out. We're pleased with the turn-out. The girls looked great and it appears we have a solid crop of players for an exciting season. There are several important announcements below.

1. Player Clinics - We will have two more player clinics with our paid professional coaches on January 16th and 23rd. Player Evaluations are a GO!

Hello PYSA Parents,

We caught a break in the weather. The fields look good and we’re a go for tomorrow. If you were not able to register in advance then no problem! We will take walk-up registrations. Please note there are no 6U evaluations, however, we are interested in more 6U players. Parents of 6U players can come to Field 5 any time during the evaluations and do a walk-up registration. Please help spread the word to parents of potential 6U players. Of course we want any girl who wants to play, so they are welcome to do a walk up registration in any Division. Evaluation start times are below.

Player Evaluations - Rain Update

In case any of you missed it, there has been a little rain in San Diego County this week. I’ve been getting a lot of questions about player evaluations this Saturday. Please stay tuned for an announcement any time up to Saturday morning. Field 5 is in okay shape if we don’t get much more rain. Robb field has approved PYSA to hold evaluations if the weather holds up. We’ll go ahead for this Saturday if we’re able.

We’re still expecting a few more returning players to register, so please get on line to sign up in advance. The 8U and 10U Divisions look good with new players this year. We would like to see more 6U players. If you know any potential 6U families that would be interested to try softball, please encourage them to visit our website and register. Help get the word out. Softball season is almost here!

SPIRIT WEAR – PYSA will be introducing Spirit Wear this year. Check out the website page for some exiting items that will be available for purchase.

Player Evaluations

Hello PYSA Families,

Player evaluations are coming up fast on Saturday, January 9th, 2016. Many players have signed up over the last few weeks but there are still a lot of expected returning players that have not yet registered. We prefer to minimize the number of walk-up registrations so if you plan to play, please go on line to register as soon as possible. All 8U to 14U players need to be at player evaluations so we can do the best job possible to balance the teams. The evaluation times are as follows:


When: Saturday, January 9th, 2016

Where: Robb Field #5

• 8U - 8:30am to 10:00am
• 10U - 10:00am to 11:30am
• 12U/14U - 11:30am to 1:00pm

What to bring: Player, batting helmet, glove (mitt), bat, softball pants (10U and up will slide)

Other: Walk-ups should arrive 20 to 30 minutes in advance to register.

Happy holidays PYSA families!

We keep getting a steady clip of registrants for the upcoming season. We’re on track to have a phenomenal year! Keep signing your girls up and bringing them to the player clinics!

I’m pleased to announce that the league is organizing a series of recruitment and fundraising events throughout the year. These events are a great opportunity to build a sense of community among league members while helping to recruit new players and raise money for player development clinics, field improvements, or equipment. They’re easy to do and fun for the whole family. Please check the “Community Events” page periodically to find out about the latest scheduled events. You can help by promoting the events on your own Facebook page. We have two upcoming events the first week of December. It’s fun for the whole family and helps the league. Come join us!

Calling all PYSA players! Come join other Peninsula players in this year Ocean Beach Holiday Parade. Wear you latest Jersey and sport a holiday band, Santa hat, or other festive wear. Players will display the Peninsula banner and handout treats and registration flyers to potential players. PYSA is assigned to Section B. We will enter the parade route from the corner of Froude and Newport Avenue - Download Parade Map.

Join other league members, friends, and family at Harbor Town Pub for a fundraising event. Harbortown will donate 10% of sales during the designated fundraising period back to the league. Tell a friend and bring the family.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CLINIC, Saturday, November 14th, 2015

This is a reminder that PYSA is hosting another skills development clinic on Saturday, November 14th, 2015 at Robb Field # 5 with professional coaches Marcus and Dewey. The clinic is free for players already registered for the 2016 Spring season. The cost is only $5 if you are not registered. If you’re looking for something to do on Saturday, please get your girls down to the field. Sign up on line on the Clinics page so we know how many girls to expect.

PITCHER/CATCHER CLINIC, Saturday, November 21st, 2015

There will also be antoher pitcher/catcher clinic in Saturday, November 21st at Robb field #3. Please signup online. Spots are available on a first come first serve basis.


The SDSU Aztecs softball team is hosting a 12 and under All Skills camp on Sunday, November 22nd, 2015 at the SDSU Softball Complex-San Diego, CA. This is a great opprtunity to learn from the big girls. The regular cost is $75 per player, but if you use the PYSA Promo code “SDSUTeam”, the cost is only $50. That’s a $25 savings. Please go directly to the Aztec website to register online.

Fall Festival, Pitchers & Catchers and More

Hello Parents!

Time to get into the “SWING” of things! No pun intended! Make sure to take advantage and sign up for the upcoming Clinics hosted by PYSA. Our fist 6U/8U clinic was a great “HIT”! Get it?...Get it? We were hoping for 12 girls and got 20. Thank you parents for getting the girls out on the field. The more they do now, the stronger our league will become for the Spring season.

PYSA is pleased to make several NEW announcements as follows:

1. PLNU Fall Festival, Saturday October 24, 2015 – PYSA will have a booth at the Point Loma Nazarene University Fall Festival from 10am to 2pm. This is a kid friendly event and a great family outing. There will be a ball toss game with prizes including stickers, temporary tattoos, and seasonal candy. 2016 softball season registration information will be available as well. Hope to see you all there.

2. Calling all Pitchers & Catchers! – Starting Saturday, October 24, 2015 PYSA is pleased to announce a series of specialty clinics for pitchers and catchers with professional coaches Marcus and Dewey. Pitching sessions with Coach Dewey are limited to 5 girls per session and are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Coach Marcus will hold catcher’s clinics at the same time as the pictching sessions. These specialty clinics are a great way for players to hone their skills, make new friends, and work with counterparts from other teams. Don’t miss out on the opportunity! Sign Up Now!

3. SDSU Skills Clinic, Sunday, October 25, 2015 - Don’t forget about the upcoming SDSU skills clinic this Sunday. It’s a great way for players to learn from the big girls. They know way more than Dad! Sign Up Now!

4. 2016 Spring Season Registration - Registration is open! We would like to get an idea of how many girls we’ll have this Spring. Don’t be afraid to Register early.

Summer Update

Hello PYSA Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer and off season. As many are aware, a newly elected Board will take effect in September to continue league operations. So far there is a broad group of parent volunteers serving board or committee positions to plan for next season. The parents are dedicated and committed to making the 2016 season one of the best ever. We encourage parents to get involved to strengthen the league and give our daughters the best Softball experience possible. Below is an update on important league information.

1. Open Postitions: The Board of Directors is seeking volunteers for two very important positions. All positions are supported by Board members and other volunteers. Please contact me if you are interested in one of the two positions indicated below.
  1. Tournament Director: This position is a voting member of the Board of Directors and is responsible for coordinating/supervising the PYSA Cool Breeze All-Stars tournament as well as the Cooler Breeze competition during Spring break. A full description of responsibilities is found in the PYSA 2013/14 Standing Rules, Section 2.11.
  2. Umpire-In-Chief: This position is a voting member of the board of directors. The principle responsibility is scheduling PYSA games and umpires. A full description of responsibilities is found in the PYSA bylaws, Section 4.6.
  3. Registrar - This position is a voting member of the board of directors. The principle responsibility is supervising player and coach registrations. A full description of responsibilities is found in the PYSA PYSA 2013/14 Standing Rules, Section 2.9
2. Board Meetings: There is a standing meeting of the new Board on the 3rd Thursday of each month, 7:30 pm to 9 pm at Jim Howard Hall at Robb Field. Jim Howard Hall is located in the cluster of buildings South of Field 3. There is parking directly in front of Jim Howard Hall for your convenience. Meetings are open to the General Public and any player parent who would like to get involved to support the league. The next meeting is July 16th, 2015.

3. Fall Ball: Planning is starting to take shape to organize PYSA Fall Ball teams to participate in other leagues. If your daughter is interested in Fall Ball, please contact the league Player Agent. There will be a separate email from Shawn on Fall Ball soon.

4. Commitees: The following committees have been formed to plan for next year. Additional volunteers are welcome to join a committee.
  1. Recruitment: This committee has the primary objective to promote the 2016 season and to increase registration. Our goal is to increase registration next season by at least 50 players.
  2. Sponsorship/Fundraising: This committee will look for ways to increase net revenue from sponsorship and fundraising. Net revenue increases will go back into player resources and training to help build skills and enhance player/team competitiveness.
  3. Website Enhancement: Changes will be coming soon to the PYSA website to reorganize and strengthen the website content to better serve the General Membership.
  4. Coaches Resources/Player Clinics: Strong coaches, quality of practices, and effective skills clinics are essential components to building a strong league. This committee will develop and execute a plan to enhance these components of our league.
  5. Snack Shack: Parent volunteers are developing a plan to run snack shack operations next year. All net revenue generated by the snack shack will go back to the league to help strengthen player resources.

2016 Spring Registration

The Peninsula Youth Softball Association (PYSA) is pleased to announce that registration for the 2016 regular season is now open (Download Flyer)! PYSA invites you to join our league and play softball "by the sea" on one of our exciting teams at Robb Field in Ocean Beach. The volunteers of this league are dedicated to giving girls of all athletic ability a fun, safe and competitive softball experience that is rewarding for the whole family. Please help spread the word about registration and be part of the PYSA softball community!

Player Development Clinics

It’s never too early to get ready to play softball. Time to get fired up! PYSA is pleased to offer a series of clinics to help players, parents, and volunteer coaches prepare for softball. Whether a veteran or interested in trying softball for the first time, these clinics are a fun way for players to get a head start on the season. The league strongly encourages participation to help strengthen the league and the PYSA softball experience.

Clinics will be announced on the league website News and Facebook pages and will be posted on the Clinics page. Be sure to check occasionally for clinic updates. We need to get an advanced head count for each clinic, so please go to the Clinics page and sign up for the corresponding clinic you wish to attend.

October Board Meeting

The October Board meeting will be Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 7pm at Jim Howard Hall at Robb Field. The meeting is open to the public and we encourage parents to attend and get involved. You can find out where Jim Howard Hall is on the Field Locations page. Board meetings are at 7pm the 3rd Thursday on each month at Jim Howard Hall
