The Chill 18U Gold will be entering its 5th season as an ASA Gold team. The 2006-2007 season has once again been a very successful one. The 18U ASA Gold team played in three of the most prestigious summer recruiting tournaments in the country, Las Vegas JO Classic, Team New Jersey Summer Classic, and Colorado Independence Day Tournament. No club program in the Midwest offers better and more consistent collegiate exposure and no program provides guidance to the recruiting process better than the Illinois Chill 18U Gold. We have had 16 D1 commits (also a D3 and D2) out of our 18 players from the last four recruiting classes an indication of the quality players and exposure available on with the Chill GOLD team.

One of the challenging aspects of the recruiting process is the large number of questions facing the recruit. The Chill GOLD prides itself on the complete education it gives its players when it comes to the recruiting process. For insight into the Chill Gold approach to recruiting, click on the "Handouts and Recruiting Resources" link on the left and look at "Recruiting Tips".

The Illinois Chill Gold is the only Chicago area fastpitch program to play ASA Gold the last four years. What does that mean to a prospective player and her family? Our athletes are seen by 200 plus colleges every year. Unlike some programs that go to one or two exposure events, our college exposure is year round all season long. From our 2005, 2006 and 2007 graduating class there were 13 D1 commitments. Think about that. Our 2008 class will be making their D1 commitments soon.

You play against the best competition. You become a better softball player. If you are a pitcher you learn to pitch at 43 feet, the distance you will pitch at in college. If you are a non-pitcher, you have more opportunities to hit and play defense with the 43 foot pitching distance. College coaches tell us they enjoy watching the girls play at 43 feet because they see so much more from all of the players.

In our fifth year of ASA Gold, we think we have the recruiting process down pretty well. Our athletes are advised on how and when to communicate with prospective colleges, how to put together their player profiles, and we orchestrate the production of their skills videos. We communicate year-round with prospective schools on behalf of our athletes and we teach them how to do the same. Our player profile booklet with details bios of all of our players is sent or handed out to over 200 schools, both in hard copy and electronically.

Don’t be misled by what you hear about recruiting or playing at the Gold level. You need talent to do both. But you also need to be developed and pointed in the right direction. We are pretty good at both.

If you would like to learn more about playing ASA 18U Gold and the advantages it offers please feel free to call or write. We will be holding open tryouts in the coming weeks, but we would welcome hearing from you now. For more information contact Gerry Quinn at 847-772-9107 or gtq33@yahoo.com
