Tignish Aces Win PEI Title
The Tignish Aces capped off arguably the best season of any championship team in a long time with a 9-2 victory over the North River Flames on Monday night. The win gave the Aces a 4-1 series victory and enabled them to celebrate their first league title since 2005 in front of their home town fans.
Their remarkable run included a 34-1-1 record (combined regular season and playoffs). The key reason for their success was a well-balanced offensive attack that lead to an amazing 255 goals (an average of over 7 per game). The Aces have been one of the most successful franchises, racking up three league championships and one runners-up finish in the six years since returning to the league in 2002.As a result of their success, the Aces have to be considered a serious contender in the Maritime-Hockey North Junior C Championships, where no PEI representative has ever made it through the semi-finals stage of the tournament.

North River to Host Maritime - Hockey North Junior C Championships
Charlottetown - Hockey PEI officially announced this week that the Island Excavators North River Minor Junior C Flames of the PEI Minor Junior C Hockey League will be the host team of the 2008 Maritime - Hockey North Junior C Championship.
The event features the best of Junior C hockey in Atlantic Canada and a team from Hockey North. The event will be played at the APM Centre in Cornwall. The Championships will run from April 3-6, 2008.
"Hockey PEI is proud to be the host branch for the 2008 Maritime - Hockey North Junior C Championship and look forward to working with the host committee in delivering a first class event", states Cliff Affleck, Hockey PEI’s Chair of Junior Council. "We look forward to hosting the best Junior C teams in the region at the 2008 Championships."
The round robin championship format will crown the top Junior C team from the region or Hockey North. Unique to this event is the annual participation of a team from Hockey North. Last year’s team representing Hockey North was from Nunavut.
The five team tournament will include representatives from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Hockey North, the PEI Junior C League Champion and the host team North River. Upwards of 125 players and team staff will invade Cornwall for the 2008 Championships.
"As the host team for this championship we are excited to welcome all teams and providing a great championship", states North River manager Robert MacKinnon. "Our players are excited for the opportunity to be the host team and have the automatic bye into the championships, but want to enter the championships as the provincial winner. Either way we will be ready and look forward to the championships".
Individuals seeking additional information or sponsorship opportunities surrounding the championship are asked to contact Don Jardine (368-2549) or Robert MacKinnon (robmackinnon@eastlink.ca). Event passes for all games will be available in the near future.

Results of Initial League Meeting
The PEI Minor Junior C initial league meeting was represented by four clubs on Tuesday night. It is strongly recommended that other teams get in contact with either league coordinator Ross Woodward 368-2116 or Jared Doucette 672-1886 ASAP to be considered for the upcoming season. The regular season is scheduled to begin at or around October 25th and will most likely be extended to a 30-game regular season schedule this season, up from 24-games last season, with two best-of-seven playoff rounds.
Proposals to host the Maritime-Northern Canadian Junior C Hockey Championships are now being accepted by Hockey PEI. PEI last hosted the championships in April of 2005 in Tignish. It was a very successful event and aims to be again this year, as the Island champion and host team will be represented at the event.

Final League Meeting
The final meeting before the regular season will be on Tuesday, October 16th in room 146 of the Sport PEI building (Holland College Royalty Centre). League fees are due at this meeting and the schedule will be drafted as well, so teams should have their home ice dates and exceptions finalized before coming to the meeting.
The regular season is scheduled to begin at or around October 25th. Since the initial league meeting, the league has learned that the Morell Flyers will be returning for the upcoming season. It is most likely that the league will have 5 participants competing in 2007-2008.
