Annual Membership Dues

PDK's dues, both fraternity and chapter, are collected by PDK International. Where a member desires to hold membership in two chapters, dues may be collected for both chapters.

The initial billing to members will be made three months prior to the expiration of good-standing membership. If a second notice is necessary, it will be mailed during the month in which membership expires.

Members not in good standing will be dropped from the mailing list of the Kappan after two issues of the journal have been provided following expiration of membership.

Join the Ranks of PDK Life Members
Life membership in Phi Delta Kappa may be purchased by any member at any time upon payment of a fee of $1,000 or upon completion of payment of five annual installments of $210 each. If the candidate for life membership elects to pay the fee by installments, the member must continue to pay regular local chapter dues along with the installment payment until the life membership fee is paid in full. Life members are exempt from international dues but continue to pay chapter dues.

For further information contact Phi Delta Kappa, P.O. Box 789, Bloomington, Indiana 47402-0789. Phone 800/766-1156 or 812/339-1156 or FAX 812/339-0018.

Dual Membership Available

A dual membership is available for those members who wish to belong to two chapters of PDK. Dues will vary by chapter, but dues must be paid in the chapter of official affiliation before dual membership can be established. For further information contact Phi Delta Kappa, P.O. Box 789, Bloomington, Indiana 47402-0789. Phone 800/766-1156 or 812/339-1156 or FAX 812/339-0018.

Did You Know . . .

that Phi Delta Kappa provides for the ongoing involvement of retired Kappans? Two categories of membership, often overlooked by members and chapters, are highlighted below:

Senior Membership is available to all retired members at age 55. Annual senior membership dues are one-half fraternity and one-half chapter dues. Application Form 43 is available from PDK headquarters and requires the signatures of the applicant or a chapter officer.

Emeritus Membership is available solely on application by a chapter on behalf of a retired member who has at least 20 years of good-standing membership in Phi Delta Kappa, is age 65 or older, and has retired. Emeritus members are exempt from all annual dues and are placed in permanent good-standing status by annually certifying their emeritus standing. Application Form 42 is available from PDK and requires chapter submission and the signature of a chapter officer.

For further information, contact PDK International at P.O. Box 789, Bloomington, Indiana 47402-0789. Phone 800/766-1156 or 812/339-1156 or FAX 812/339-0018.

Membership Expired?

Please check the mailing label on this newsletter. The third set of digits (e.g. 06/95) is your expiration date. If your membership has lapsed, contact the chapter's membership vice president or Phi Delta Kappa International, P.O. Box 789, Bloomington, Indiana 47402-0789. Phone 800/766-1156 or 812/339-1156 or FAX 812/339-0018.

Phi Delta Kappan
The Premier Education Journal

Published 10 times a year from September through June, the Kappan is distributed to all members. Regarded as the outstanding journal in education, it alone is considered by most to be worth the cost of membership. Stay informed on the latest education issues. Read your Kappan regularly.

Read the Washington Newsletter

The Washington Newsletter was the result of an initiative started after the 1989 biennial council in St. Louis, Missouri. Delegates to the council asked PDK to find ways to become more active in the area of public policy deliberation. Subsequently, in September 1991, Phi Delta Kappa began publishing a legislative newsletter three times a year.

The purpose of the newsletter is to provide Kappans with information on the major education bills before the U.S. Congress. It remains the hope of the PDK Board of Directors that an informed membership will act on the information by making its views on education legislation known to the appropriate legislators.

John F. (Jack) Jennings, editor of the Washington Newsletter, served as General Counsel for Education to the Committee on Education and Labor in the U.S. House of Representatives until January 1995. His co-writer, Diane Stark Renter, also served as Jack's associate on the "hill." Jack Jennings and Diane Stark Renter currently are the director and associate director of the Center on Education Policy in Washington, D.C. The center is a national, independent advocate for public education and for more effective public schools. For more information, visit the center's web site at www.ctredpol.org.

Current and previous issues of the newsletter are available at no charge by contacting PDK International, P.O. Box 789, Bloomington, Indiana 47402-0789. Phone 800/766-1156 or 812/339-1156 or FAX 812/339-0018.
