Welcome to the PCH Spartans Basketball Club Website

The PCH Spartans is a non-profit South Bay community-based organization with the goal of teaching basketball fundamentals to both boys and girls - grades 3rd-8th. The purpose of this club is to develop and prepare each particpant in our program to master basketball fundamentals and apply them in competitive games. The boys and girls in our program practice twice a week and participate in clinics, leagues, and tournaments.

This site was developed to keep all members up to date with important matters, organization happenings and personal events.

Busy Weekend of Activity for the PCH Spartans - especially our Clinic

Wow - what a busy weekend. We got uniforms ordered for all our teams for the coming season, ran one of the most successful skills clinics we've ever sponsored (over 150 participants), and we put up banners at many of the schools in the Torrance School District.

The buzz in the community has been astounding. It seems we're rapidly becoming the "go-to" non-profit basketball organization in the South Bay for fundamental skills training. It's very exciting. We're talking with the various park and rec departments around the South Bay area to sponsor training for coaches, skill workshops, and post-season tournaments.

The coaching staff notices this community buzz in the number of referrals you're making to bring your friends, neighbors, and classmates to our program. Keep up the good work!

Tournament Schedule set for the Fall

Our Tournament Schedule is set for the Fall. We're very excited about the group of tournaments our coaching staff has put together. See the Calendar and upcoming events for more details. From this point forward, our teams are going to be getting a lot of play experience in addition to their practices.

I look forward to seeing our parents at the games wearing their new t-shirts and sweat shirts with our team logo proudly supporting their children. I might be a little biased, but I think our parents are one of the most courteous groups on the club tournament cycle - always positive, never trash talking or insulting the referee. I am always amazed by the poor sportsmanship shown by a lot teams - poor sportsmanship which is condoned by the coach and taught to the kids. This approach/attitude flies in the face of the positive and fun environment we're trying to create as our PCH Spartans "culture".

Welcome to our new 3rd/4th Grade Coach

Please join me in welcoming Coach Tim Gould, our new girls/boys 3rd/4th grade team coach. Tim comes to us after coaching for a number of years in the Torrance Park and Rec, RBYB, and FOR organizations. We're very excited to have Tim and his son Joey join our program.

Our 3rd/4th grade group of boys and girls is an outstanding group. They are all eager to learn the fundamental skills it takes to play basketball successfully. I started this program years ago when my own son was in the 3rd grade and he has developed beyond my imagination by focusing on the fundamental basketball skills our program is built upon.

Tournament coming up for Boys 7th Grade Team

The boys 7th grade team has an upcoming tournament in Orange County with some very stiff competition. This will be a great challenge for our boys 7th grade team. We're excited to have a few new team members join us. We'll miss a couple of our veterans who are playing football in the Fall.

The 7th grade boys team could still use one or two more strong players - particularly in the point guard role and post. If you're aware of a candidate who wants to take their game to the next level, please have them contact Coach Savitz.

5th and 7th Girls Teams Ready to Start Playing Competitively

This coming weekend, our 5th and 7th Grade Girls Teams will be competing in a one day shoot-out hosted by the Pasadena Vikings Club Team. We look forward to a great day of basketball and our girls kicking off their season with this shoot-out. Our teams will be playing twice a month through December.

Fall Tournament Schedule Almost Ready

The coaching staff has been working very hard to come up with a set of local tournaments - twice a month for our 5th - 8th grade teams that will provide a strong competitive game experience.

Our philosophy is that the participants in our program learn as much in practice as they do in competitive game experiences. The games are the fun element of playing basketball. We believe they are the "reward" for hard work in practices. Games also provide the coaches with an opportunity to evaluate what the team should be working on in practice.

Practices and Organization

Most of our coaches have elected to hold their practices on Friday evenings and Sunday Afternoons. The Friday evening practices will be for those participants who have been invitied to participate on teams. These practices will be focused on team concepts such as offensive strategies, defensive strategies, pressing, press breaks, fast breaks, secondary breaks, team rebounding, and transition defense.

The Sunday practices will be focused on skill development. We are going to start calling our Sunday practices the Skill Academy Program. All team participants are also expected to attend the Sunday Individual Skill Development practices. These will focus on the individual fundamental basketball skills required for success on the court, including dribbling, passing, catching, cutting, screening, shooting.

Exciting Summer - Lots of Tournaments and Activity

The PCH Spartans had a great summer with many teams playing almost non-stop in scrimmages and tournaments. Summer is probably the best basketball season of the year since we play every other week and sometimes back-to-back weekends.

Our 5th Grade Girls Team won first place at a tournament in Orange County.

We look forward to our returning team members and many new team members who have come out to try-out for our various teams.

Fall Season has Started - Great Try-outs and Strong Teams Developing

The PCH Spartans Basketball Club is the premier travel basketball club in the South Bay. We have teams from 3rd grade through 8th grade. In addition to our travel club teams, we host a series of basketball skills clinics throughout the year to help kids in the South Bay Community improve their fundamental basketball skills.

We recently held our Fall Tryouts and now have strong teams forming at almost every level. We are still selectively seeking 1-2 new players on a few of our teams. Teams are getting ready for tournaments starting in just a few weeks. A few of our teams have already started playing competitively in September. If you are interested in learning more about the PCH Spartans, please send an email to info@pchspartans.org.
