University of Arkansas at Monticello to host Little League Softball Saturday
On April 7th, the University of Arkansas at Monticello has invited the girls and parents of the Pine Bluff American-Eastern Little League to attend the “Little League Softball Day.” The event will be held at the home field of the Blossoms of UAM, at noon, when the Blossoms take on the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech University. They will have the complete game experience from the warm up to the game-ending play. On Game-day:
- The Little League players are requested to wear their Little League uniform jersey. Admission is free. Players may need some money for snacks or meals.
- After the game, the Blossom coaches and players invite all Little League players onto the field for a FREE mini clinic where Little Leaguers can learn from some of the best college coaches and players in the game. The clinic is pending final approval by the Blossom coaching staff. At the very least, there will be a meet and greet on the field and our girls can get autographs and talk softball with the Blossoms. (Solely conducted by the Blossoms and the University of Arkansas at Monticello, not Little League Baseball, Incorporated or the local Little League. As such, is not covered by any Little League National insurance policy.)
- Final plans are being put together, but preliminary plans call for us to leave our field around noon and caravan to Monticello. We will miss a portion of the first game, but will be there for the entire second game. This will give parents time to feed the kids before we leave if they like. We anticipate returning before 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening. If anyone has access to any 15-passenger vans or church buses, it will be greatly appreciated.
- Call Cecil at 692-6800 with any questions.

Annual Meeting Highlights
We had a very good meeting. Thanks to all that made it. If you did not make it and want to serve on the board, please let me know.
President Bill reported that we have $18,181 in our reserve. We had a great year with donations of $6,260 and registration fees of $6,180 (which was over budget by $500). The concession stand made money and covered cost of umpires and some other items that were needed. The parking lot project and picnic area were pretty well done. We will make additional improvements there this year. We hosted the state tournament and it went very well. We settled with the District Administrator on our fees for the last three years that we disputed, but we now are straight. We have purchased a lightning detector that will take the responsibility off the umpires as to when to call and game due to lightning. Watson Chapel agreed to continue our relationship and will look at helping with lighting and other issues. Cortez Lee agreed to continue as on Field Umpire in Chief for next year. We had 126 girls register last year with 9 teams playing at the field. A new wrinkle was introduced as a fund raiser for the tournament teams, the Parent Game. It brought in $1,485. Thanks to the parents and we will continue it next year. The Big League Team returned $2,000 to the league from money they raised. We did very well with our tournament teams. Our 9/10 year olds won state. The Little League team performed very well at State. The Big and Senior League teams were State Champs and represented us well at regionals.
Board members selected for the new year are Mark Jenkins, Kelly Jenkins, Mica Cook, Ricky King, Judy Brumett, Shari Raymick, Skipper Raymick, Bill Brumett, Cecil Vanvechoven and Laura Brown. The board selected Bill to be President, Mark Jenkins VP, Laura Brown as Treasurer, Shari Raymick as Secretary and Cecil as Equipment Manager & Publicity Chair. Other positions will be filled as determined in the near future. Cecil is going to go thru the old equipment and give away what we don't use. He will be also putting a pad lock on the door to control access.

Use of Field
At the Annual Meeting: The history of the beginning of PBAELLS's use of Monroe-Ryburn field was discussed in detail by Laura Brown, who is an officer with Pine Bluff Little League Inc that gave the use of the field to PBAELLS. She made it clear that the arrangement was contingent on only Little League teams can use the field. The basic premise is that a player within the age groups we serve must be registered with PBAELLS to be able to play on the field at any time. The arrangement with Watson Chapel is outside of this, since they do not compete with Little League and have a written lease agreement that requires them to meet certain requirements and pay for use of the field in various forms. So, after looking at the detailed agreements and documents presented, the board voted that no "non-Little League" team or person can use the field or any of the facilities at any time without a written agreement with the league. The liability issue with Little League International, Pine Bluff Little League Inc, PBAELLS and our local board makes it impossible to allow it. So, if any board member sees people on the premises that are not affiliated with the league as described, please tell them to leave.

State Tournament Results
Our 9-10 year old and Little League teams did
very well in the state tournament we hosted in July. The 9-10's won three
consecutive games over teams from Bald Knob and Piggott by a combined margin of
51-6.
Our 11-12 year old team acquitted themselves well. They won their first
game in convincing fashion, but faltered in the following two games against a
tough opponent from Piggott.
The future of PBAELLS is certainly in capable hands with these young
ladies. Congratulations to the players, their coaches and all the parents
who gave so willingly of their time and effort to make this a highly successful
tournament.

Parking Lot Project
Last year Goodfaith-Carr Methodist Church said that we could not use their parking lot for parking at any time. The league has been in existance for over 50 years and had an agreement with the church to allow parking. The league even contributed to the church to secure the right to park, but the pastor and their board said that if we parked on their lot the cars will be towed. So, the board has been working hard to come up funding for parking out past our outfield on property owned by the league. Starting Monday, March 14th work will begin on our new parking lot. Mr Tony Resinger with the help of D&D Paving (Mr Dale Davis) will begin the work. So, please express our thanks to them and be patient as we work to resolve the problem created by the church.

Lauren Rose pitched the entire game for the Pine Bluff 11/12 year old Allstars to bring home the first place Little League State Trophy. Pine Bluff got off to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as KK Kemp got a hit and rounded the bases to score on passed balls and a sacrifice by Sally Jenkins. Piggott in the second inning picked up five runs to take the lead. In the second and third innings Pine Bluff rallied to score 8 runs on hits by Morgan Monk, Kemp, Morgan Raymick, Madison McCarty and a walk by Kelsey Capps. Piggott picked up 4 runs in the 5th and 6th to make it 11-9 Pine Bluff. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two outs a fly ball to center was fielded by Mariah Wilkinson to end the game. Pine Bluff advance to regional in Waco, Texas with their first game on July 31, 2010 at 6:00 pm.

11/12 Championship Game: Rained out play Tuesday 6pm in Blytheville.
About 10 families traveled 3.5 hours from Pine Bluff to Blytheville to watch our girls beat Piggott in the finals of the 11/12 year old softball and Western League's 9/10 boys game. It rained a little - no lightning. We all get there - guess what? - we are the only ones at the ball field. The DA had canceled it earlier in the day and did not tell anyone from Pine Bluff. He told Mystic that we are not on his preferred list. Jeff Smallmon needs to go! LL does not need someone like him being a DA. Anyway, there have been lots of issues and we will be filing a formal complaint and request for his removal from LL. I'll post the official complaint when it is done. This is from Bill. Sorry, to rant, but I am more upset than ever about this.

Little League wins second round in 8 innings
PBAELLS 11/12 yr olds beat Jackson County (Newport) in 8 innings 9-8. KK Kemp pitched the entire game and got the win. PB was down 3-2 in the 5th when Morgan Monk stole home to tie it up. In the 7th PB put together a two run rally with Kemp reaching on an error and Lauren Rose hit a double to drive in 3 runs. Morgan Carter walked and she and Rose scored on passed balls to make it 8-3. But Jackson Co came back and tied the game. In the 8th Kemp drew a walk and Monk hit a single to move the runners into scoring position. Kamp scored on a passed ball to give PB the lead. Jackson County loaded the bases with 2 outs and Morgan Raymick made a great catch to end the game. Pine Bluff awaits the winner of Piggott and Jackson County at 6pm on Monday in the finals of the State Tournament. We are so proud of our girls and Manager Lonny Doolin & Coach Tiffany Doolin - can't leave out the parents that are there chearing them on.

No Parking on Church Parking Lot
Scott Pinckard, Dr Jim Achorn, Teresa Howie and Bill Brumett met with the Directors of the church next door. They had demanded a meeting about parking on their lot. They are planning to expand and blamed us for all the problems that mostly we have no control over and they said they would take no responsibility for letting us know of problems on the lot. Their only suggestion was for us to hire security when we use the lot. So, to keep peace and keep our people from being towed. We will not be parking on their lot any more. Any that do will be towed at their own expense.

Olympics - Saturday 9:00am - 12 Noon - Pitching Clinic Huge Success.
Last Saturday it was so very great to see girls lined up from first base all the way to the outfield fence practicing the techniques taught by the pitching trainer. What was even more exciting was the number of coaches and parents that participated. Those that skipped this one missed a good opportunity to learn "the right way to pitch". We are looking to do it again May 1 at 10am at the field. The cost will be only $10 per player. Anyone wanting to learn to pitch correctly should be there. As the trainer emphasized it takes practice and more practice to be good. Thanks to Ms Mica for making it happen!
Our Olympics is a contest in various age groups for things like throw for distance and accuracy, and run (home to first and home to home). Medals will be given at the Opening Ceremonies for the winners. Players need to get with their managers to be entered in this fun day at the ball park. If you have questions, call Ms Judy.

Concession Stand Vandalized
Some theives, which are the lowest of the low, broke out the front window behind home plate to the concession stand last night. Bill went by the field to get some info and set up a more detailed bookkeeping system for the concession stand. "When I went to the door, it was unlocked. I opened the door and there was junk on the floor. All the cabinet doors were open and the refrigerator was pulled from the wall. I then notice glass all over the floor and saw the window was broken out just enough to allow someone to enter. The theives, came through the window loaded stuff into the trash can and left through the door and out the gate in the corner by the church. I then called Taylor and we reviewed what was missing. Thank God there was only a few small bill left in the register. The cash register drawer was forced open and cleaned out. All the candy was gone and Taylor said she had just purchased about $150 worth a few days ago at Sams. There were a lot of drinks missing, but few gatorades and no diet drinks. A box of frozen hot dogs was gone and a can of cheese sauce. I then called the police. An officer came out right away and he had a crime tech check for finger prints. Taylor and two of her crew members came out to look at the mess and help identify what was missing. The crime tech said it was small hands and they probably would not have finger prints to match, but they would let us know what they find." Thanks so much to Ms Judy for helping clean up and to James Bridges and David May for putting plywood over the windows. We also put chains and large locks on the gates in the corners. They will not be used as entrances except for special events such as the Casey Crowder Tournament." President Bill

Special thanks to James Bridges, David May, Ricky King, Skipper Raymick and lots of volunteers who kept the field in shape between games. Ms Judy sends thanks to the concession workers who all did their part. It is amazing what can be done when people work together in harmony with common goals.

Board Meeting Highlights
President Bill thanked the board with special recognition of Manager Rep, Mike Davis, for their efforts in dealing with opportunities and stressed that as we move forward and adopt new policies that we will deal with opposition and just need to stand firm in our commitments. Dr Achorn reviewed his meeting with the church and felt we are moving toward a good resolution for all. Lori presented the minutes for the May 3 meeting and they were approved with minor changes. We agreed to have a drawing for first prize a donated bike and second prize a $100 gas card with $1 ticket sales to begin at the Casey Crowder Tournament with proceeds to be split with the three tournament teams. Details for the Casey Crowder Tournament next weekend were reviewed. Laura reviewed our financial statement including the concession update and that the only sponsor that has not paid is Bank of Star City. We will mail a letter to each parent that have not paid any fees to work out an arrangement for payment. Dr. Achorn reviewed our rules and umpires. We approved two policy statements concerning Manager/Coach appointments and use of pool players to facilitate play. Managers and board members have copies of the adopted policies. James reported that we are looking to gravel the parking area past the right field fence to limit our use of the church parking lot. We will get new carpet for the ramps on the grandstands and the vent-a-hood cleaned in the concession stand. The board voted to sponsor four tournament teams: Little Girls 9-10 year olds to state and one Major, Junior and Big League Team to State and the International Tournament. State tournaments will be in Bearden. Judy reported that we have only three girls that need to be assigned to teams and she would take care of assigning them today. Bill recommended we have a year end banquet and the Board will meet to finalize plans for that on June 22nd at 2pm in the pressbox area.

It is all good!
At 4:13pm yesterday we had our 1,000th hit on our web site. That means that people are looking at us. That is exciting that our parents, players and others are looking at what we are doing. I am working very hard to keep the information fresh and updated. We had our first rain outs Thursday and they were rescheduled by the schedule committee. Check schedule for updates. The umpires handled it well with little fanfare. Thanks guys!! The old batting cage out past the right field fence is gone. We are making improvements and we need your continued support to make PBAELLS the best it can be. Suggestions are always welcome, but let's please keep them positive and not demeaning or critical. We are all in this together. Please take the time to click on Rules and review your local rules. We will strictly abide by them and not knowing is not excuse - ask the local police when we speed and say, "I did not know it was a 35 mile/hr zone." We are still guilty. Be informed so you won't be embarassed. Thanks so much to Dale, Dr Achorn, Gary and Mike for umpiring. These guys are working hard and deserve our support. You may not always agree with their calls, but if you think you can do it better then volunteer to umpire and see how it is. Thanks guys!!

Good News
I am so proud of the progress we have made. PBAELLS was notified last week that we will receive a $1,000 grant from our YAC application. This money will go to help deserving families subsidize their fees. The DOC tore down the old batting cage past the right field fence and it will be picked up and removed. Check the schedule and standings on the web site as we are playing ball. Congratulations to Natalie Johnson who has hit two out of the park home runs this year as a 12 year old. The Saturday 10am Player/Coaches Clinics have been a big success and improved the skills of those that have attended. We ask that you park outside the right field fence to help us meet our agreement with Goodfaith Church. Thanks to all and we'll see you at the ball park!

Lighting: Getting a proposal to replace lenses and bulbs to improve lighting. Web Site: We will not post pictures or names of girls on the site to avoid any conflict with Little League. We have finalized the agreement with Goodfaith Church for parking. Our members are encourage to park out past the right field area. Deadline for submitted applications for the Casey Crowder Scholorship is Friday. The only sponsor fee not paid is BSC. We will be contacting parents through the managers that have not paid their fees for this year. Those that did not opt out of concession stand duty will be assigned nights to work by the Managers. Our local rules are officially approved by LL. We will be working to get gravel on the parking area outside right field fence. NO warm up or throwing of any balls will be allowed inside the fence except in the bull pen or on the playing field. Remember that animals are not allowed inside the fenced area at any time. Managers needing pool players to field 9 players are to notify Player Agent, Judy 30 minutes before game time and the pool player will be given 15 minutes to arrive. Pool players have to play 9 outs and can not pitch. We agreed to repair the vent-a-hood.

Thanks so much to James Bridges for heading up our clinic. We had 15 girls and 9 manager/coaches in attendance. Thanks to Skipper Raymick for working on hitting in the batting cage with the girls.
