Sunday's (10-28-07) Games are Cancelled.

While the fires did not directly reach our area we are still impacted by the air quality and the disruption of our normal schedule. Many people are hosting displaced families or friends or volunteering. It was nice to see how well San Diego pulled together in a time of crisis.

The air quality is better at the Patriot Field than in other areas but it is still in the Moderate Range. The fires, south and north of us are still burning and a wind shift could easily bring the smoke and ash our way. Plus, the Parks and Rec Department have closed access to the Patriot Field by locking the main gate. So all Patriot games are cancelled for Sunday, 10-28-07. Team Practice can resume on Monday (10-29-07) at the discretion of the manager.

Saturday, June 28
Patriot Board Elections

It's time for the Patriot Board Elections. If you would like to be on the Patriot Board of Directors, email patriotleagueonline.org with your name and contact information and you will be on the web ballot. You are not choosing a specific position on the board, just that you would like to help manage the League. Every position is a volunteer position and without volunteers kids will not get the chance to play baseball. This is your chance to make a difference. On July 5, 2008 a ballot will be on the website for you chance to vote for Board Members.

Baseball Family

With great sadness, we lost two members of our baseball family. These two gentlemen were great supporters of youth sports within our community and will be greatly missed.

Peter Fleischman:
Originally from San Carlos Little League and later the Patriot League. Peter was one of our District 33 umpire colleagues, he passed away on April 8th. Peter had been fighting a long illness and when symptoms exacerbated, he went to Scripps Green Hospital for diagnosis. Shortly after doctors began an internal exam, he began to hemorrhage internally and was dead within minutes.

Richard "Grandpa" Paus: Rich
Rich lost his battle to cancer on Sunday, March 29th. Rich was better known as "Grandpa" around Allied Gardens Little League and Patriot League. "Grandpa" was a fixture at the ballpark while his grandson Alex Good was on the field. Those who attend games probably would remember him and his wife Jan, sitting in lawn chairs near home plate under umbrellas. "Grandpa" was a great supporter to all Little League players/coaches/umpires and families, I know he will be missed. A flyer was created for Rich's Memorial which took place on April 15, 2009.

Patriot Board Election Results
Thank you for taking the time to vote. We are happy to announce the following people have been elected to the Patriot Board for 2008. These people will volunteer many hours behind the scenes so the kids have a well run season.

Bill Owens, Bob Esquerra, Brent Forrest, Don Schroder, Don Sutton, Gary Shira, Gregg Cantor, Jim Rosa, Karrie Roberts, Kirk Bennett, Nancy Hemmings, Sherman Stocker, Terry Taylor and Tori Barr.

We also want to thank all the 2007 Board Members for their tireless work. 2007 was a great year. One of the biggest accomplishments was a smooth season, from field prep last Spring....selecting the managers (they were great)....to tryouts....to the post season, it all went well!

Many of the members from the 2007 Board will continue for another year. This helps with consistancy. Plus we will have some new members, with fresh ideas, which is always welcome. Soon the Board Members will be choosing positions, one of those will be League President. First we want to thank Brent Forrest for doing an excellent job running the league, plus umpiring over 80 games. While he will remain on the Board, he is taking on a new challenge and working with District 33 in promoting and building other Patriot Programs (Juniors, Seniors & Big League) with the other leagues in District 33. That will be a huge task. Thanks again, Brent!
So we offically welcome our new Board Members Greg Cantor, Karrie Roberts and Terry Taylor. We are looking forward to a great Fall and Spring Season!

January 27th and 28th 2012
Handout:
Big Al Coaching Clinic Flyer

District 33 is proud to host the 2012 "Big Al" Coaching Clinic featuring Al Price and his son Scott. Al's teaching philosophy comes from decades of experience he has culminated over the years into this comprehensive, easy-to-follow approach to learning the fundamentals of baseball, softball and tee ball. Scott, (Al’s son) will assist at the clinic and brings a fresh new perspective to the training after playing college baseball in Texas and graduating with his Kinisiology and Teaching degree. Each component of the program ties together principles of learning that have proven effective time and time again. Al and Scott have distilled their knowledge in a way that makes it easy for kids, parents and coaches to learn. Here's how he does it, in a nutshell: All the fundamental skills are clearly identified. Each skill is broken down into a series of simple, straight forward steps presented in a learnable progression. Skills are presented in a creative and motivating manner that is easy for anyone from the novice to the more experienced to follow. Above all, he never forgets that the game is supposed to be active - and fun. Big Al's Teach it – Try It – Game It approach has helped both new and experienced coaches build Little League teams with a solid foundation of basic skills. Take advantage of this great, well-planned program: do it for the kids! Al and Scott have developed a complete series of instructional resources that match the clinic instruction. The resources were reviewed and approved by Little League International in the spring of 2010. To learn more about the resources and to order online please go to www.bigalbaseball.com. The resources will also be available for purchase at the clinic sessions.

This is a free clinic to everyone in District 33. You can register on-line or at the door for each clinic. Reggie Waller Clinic
Reggie Waller Coaches Clinic
Sunday April 13th 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Location: La Mesa National's Kuhlken field 8400 University Avenue, La Mesa

This will meet the standard for the safety plan. The cost of this clinic is
$25.

Remember, this is the last coaches clinic the District will make available.
At least two coaches per team should have attended a coaches clinic in the
last two years with at least one of the coaches having attended this year.
We will be verifying this for TOC.

For those of you who do not know Reggie, he was a professional ball player
with the Cincinnati and Houston organizations. Following his playing career,
Reggie held the positions of scouting director and also assistant general
manager for the Padres.

As I have told my league's managers and coaches, irrespective of the
District requirements for attending clinics and how long you may have been
coaching youth sports, for the nominal cost, you will undoubtedly learn
something from Reggie.

Reggie conducts an excellent clinic. Past attendees have been very
appreciative of Reggie's ability to teach others how to coach. We are very
thankful that Reggie has once again made himself available to us.

Congratulations to the Dodgers!
World Series Champs!

We would like to have as many umpire staff there as possible. If you will attend, please arrive between 1:30 and 2:00 to help set up and begin grilling.

We especially want to show our appreciation to the families for sharing their umpire with us all season, so spouses or significant others are also invited.
Special recognition will be given to those umpires who served above and beyond the call of duty this year.
Come on by for a burger or a hot dog.

District 33 TOC Champs!

The San Carlos Patriot Senior All Star Team were honored in a pre-game ceremony at the Padre game on Monday, August 27, 2007 at Petco Park. The team was invited to watch batting practice, meet the players and receive autographs. Just before the game, the team was escorted to the 3rd baseline reconized by the PA announcer and Friar Vision for a sensational All Star Season, 16 -1.
This was the first time in 27 years that a District 33 Team, let alone from the Patriot League, made it to the Western Regional level for All Stars. Their accomplishments include, District 33 Champions (15 leagues in San Diego), Sectional Champions (San Diego County) and Divisional Champions (Southern California). The San Carlos Patriot Seniors beat their counterpart, Northern California, in Regional play in Salem, Oregon but lost to Arizona in the final game 2 to 0 on August 6th. Through all the tournaments, the team was a favorite of fans and officials because of their high quality of sportsmanship.
They were a mere two games away from going to the Little League World Series in Bangor, Maine but they return to San Diego knowing they are the best Senior Little League Team in California!

The Patriot League is also in need of financial help in supporting the team’s Western Regional trip to Salem, Oregon. The expenses for the team were over $26,000.00. Donations received to date are, $6,885.00. Contributions are still needed to off-set the teams travel costs and relieve the financial burden placed on the Patriot League and their families. All donations will be greatly appreciated and can be sent to: Patriot Baseball League, P.O.Box 900326 San Diego, CA 92190-0326 Click here for more information.

SDSU October Baseball Camp
San Diego State University is offering a Pitching & Catching/Field Camp. It has been rescheduled for Dec. 9th & 10th. It's a 3 hour camp for $75 taught by the Aztecs Coaching Staff and Players. More info at the Aztecs Baseball Camps & Clinics.

Seniors Game Schedule
The Seniors will have interleague games with District 41 and 42. This gives our First Half Senior Teams more teams to play. Two teams from Sweetwater and one from Santee have been added to the schedule. Senior Schedule

We are happy to report the Backstop Poles that were damaged from the January 3rd winds have been straightened. The second part of the repair will be installing a smaller pole inside the main supports then filling the pole with cement for added strenght. The fact that we were able to repair the backstop instead of replacing it saved the league thousands of dollars.
We are still planning on replacing the right field fence and sponsors are needed. Ask your employeer or business' you frequent, if they would like to sponsor a team. You can see by the pictures this is a big project. The Sponsorship Page has the details on the available packages.
You can also write of few comments on the Hamburger Helper Website. Click Patriot Fence Project. The original project was to replace the the right field 5' fence with an 8’ fence. Primarily, the increase of 3’ is a safety issue, as many foul balls have come dangerously close to hitting spectators. Putting in 8’ fencing will mitigate that danger. We received three estimates from local fence contractors, with prices ranging from $6,519 to $8,000 to install the fencing. So far, we’ve managed to raise a few thousand dollars for the project. Hamburger Helper will donate money to worthwhile causes. The link below can be used for supporters to post comments about the project and our league. It will help our cause if we can get a lot of comments for support. Now more than ever, please take a couple minutes and post your support about the league if you can. Just 2 or 3 lines will do. Click Patriot Fence Project.
Thanks for helping.

    League Age for Patriots.
The Patriot Board has passed a resolution for the 2007 season to NOT allow league age 12 year-olds to play in the Patriot League 2007 regular season. Traditionally 12 year-olds played Majors. 2006 was the transition year for the date change. That's why some League Age 12 year-olds were allowed to play at the Patriot level during 2006. A Player must be 13 years-old by April 30th to play at the Patriot level for the Spring Season. See "April 30th is the Date for Determining League Age" below. Rising 12 year-olds (who played their last year at the majors level) are invited to play Patriot Winter Ball.

THE JUNIORS TOC SCHEDULE HAS BEEN POSTED

April 30th is the Date for Determining League Age

Thanks for all your help on Field Day! About 40 hardy volunteers showed up to lend a hand, a shovel or a paint brush. Because of their efforts, the kids will have a great field to play on this season. More pics here.

The Patriot League is already using Breakaway Bases
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Oct. 3, 2006) – Local Little Leagues have until the 2008 season to install breakaway bases for all levels of play, if they have not already done so.
The new rule appeared in the 2006 baseball and softball rule books of Little League:
Rule 1.06: Beginning with the 2008 season, it will become mandatory that all leagues utilize bases that disengage their anchor. Leagues are encouraged to begin the process of implementing these types of base systems during the current season on all their fields so that the process is completed by the 2008 season.

    A Celebration of Life

    Patriot Family and Friends,

Several weeks ago we lost a friend, a member of our community and a very dedicated La Mesa National Parent.

J.R. Provencher, who was a fixture around the league as his son Hunter played through all the divisions as a La Mesa National player and now plays with the Patriot League passed away. It is a sad event for all who knew J.R. For those of you that did not have the opportunity to meet him, J.R. was a retired police officer, terrific photographer ( he was even the "official" photgrapher for one of the LMN 9-10 All Star Teams) and quick with a funny story- and he had many funny stories.

J.R. leaves behind his wonderful wife Jean, a beautiful daughter and a fine young man of a son.

The Provencher family will be Celebrating the Life of J.R. this Saturday and would like to invite members of our league, with whom they have spent so many happy days at the ballpark. A place J.R. truly loved spending his time at.

Please join the Provencher Family for this Celebration of Life, Saturday July 13th at 3:00 pm

    Patriot League Juniors T.O.C. Rules:

In case of tied standings after pool play, use the following tie-breakers:

    1. Head to head play
    2. Fewest runs allowed per defensive inning
    3. Coin-toss (Let’s hope it doesn’t come to this)

In the case of a 3 way tie, use #1, if still tied, go to rule #2. If this determines the #1 seed, then revert back to rule #1 for remaining teams

    Thursday, January 25
This would be the other side of the page. I don't think this will work too well.
