OVERALL RECORD: 12-13 IHC HILLS RECORD: 10-8 Season Ends
Parsippany 8 Parsippany Hills 2
The Redhawks opened the season with a convincing win over the cross town rival Vikings 8 to 2. Pitcher Kim Rubino allowed only one hit and one earned run through seven innings of play. The offense was led by Kaitlin Flanagan who had two hits, scored two runs and drove in one. Crystian Merrill added an RBI double in the fourth inning. Dana Romano broke the game open with a bases loaded double in the sixth. Paige Berger also had an RBI single.
West Essex 7 Parsippany 0
A lack of hitting and lapses in the field resulted in the Redhawks first set back of the 2005 season, losing to the West Essex Knights 7 to 0. Five Parsippany errors in the field lead to five unearned runs for the Knights. Kim Rubino pitched six innings giving up ten hits and five walks. The Redhawks managed just four hits off the West Essex pitcher Danielle Bertscha. Stephanie Ziemski, Carrie Whalen, Kim Rubino and Christina Simmons each singled for the Redhawks. Carrie Whalen also reached base on two other occasions with walks.
Parsippany 4 Hanover Park 2
Solid defense and timely hitting were key in the Redhawks 4 to 2 victory over previously unbeaten Hanover Park. Trailing by one run Parsippany scored four times in the bottom of the third inning. This is all the Redhawks needed. Lindsay Kennedy walked with one out and Carrie Whalen reached base on an error. Kaitlin Flanagan then ripped a double scoring both Kennedy and Whalen. Flanagan scored when Kelly Young reached base on an error. Kim Rubino closed out the scoring by driving in Young with a single to left field. Rubino pitched seven innings giving up five hits and three walks while striking out six.
Dover 5 Parsippany 4 (8 innings)
The Redhawks comeback fell one run short as they lost to the Dover Tigers 5 to 4 in eight innings. Dover scored two runs in the first but Parsippany answered with two on their own in the bottom of the inning. Trailing 3 to 2 in the bottom of the seventh, Parsippany then tied the game. Dana Romano singled and was advanced to second on a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt by Christina Simmons. She later scored on Stephanie Ziemski's fly ball. The Tigers then scored two runs in the top of the eight inning. In the bottom of the inning hits by Parsippany's Crystian Merrill, Kaitlin Flanagan and Kim Rubino plated one run. However, the Redhawks were unable to get the tying run home ending their comeback attempt. Rubino pitched all eight innings giving up seven hits and striking out seven in a loosing effort.
Morris Hills 11 Parsippany 1
Parsippany lost 11 to 1 to defending IHC champs Morris Hills in a 6 inning game. Morris Hills jumped top a two to nothing lead after one inning but Parsippany cut this in half when Kelly Young stole home in the top of the second. The game remained close until the fifth inning when the Knights scored three and then added five more in the sixth to end the game. Hard hitting Morris Hills was aided by four Parsippany fielding errors. Knight's pitcher Cara Moriarty limited Parsippany to one hit, a single by Kim Rubino in the second inning. Rubino pitched six innings giving up nine hits and seven earned runs. She struck out five and walked four.
Parsippany 21 Weequahic 0
Parsippany defeated Weequahic High School in an IHC contest. Three Redhawk pitchers combined for a no-hitter with freshman Christina DeLeasa picking up the final three outs of the game on three strike outs. Sophomore Amanda Lebowitz scored two runs and drove in a run with a single. DeLeasa added an RBI double in the fifth inning.
Montville 6 Parsiappny 4
The Redhawks battled the Mustangs of Montville to the end but came up short 6 to 4 in a non-conference game. Montville scored three times in the third inning with the aid of two Parsippany errors. They then added another run in the fourth. The Redhawks closed the gap by scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning. Kaitlan Flanagan singled and then scored on Kelly Young's triple to right field. Kim Rubino then drove Young home with a ground out. Parsippany tied the game at four in the bottom of the sixth. Rubino beat out an infield single. Dana Romano then hit a two run homer to right field. The Mustangs scored two runs in the top of the seventh to give the visitors the victory.
Chatham 5 Parsippany 3
The Redhawks dropped their second straight game to Chatham 5 to 3. Chatham scored two runs in the first inning thanks to two hits and an error. Parsippany responded with a run of it's own in the bottom of the second when Kelly Flanagan drove in Kim Rubino who singled leading off the inning. Chatham added to their lead in the fifth inning scoring two runs after two outs were recorded. The Redhawks added a run in the sixth inning when Kaitlin Flanagan walked and scored on Stephanie Ziemski's double. The final Parsippany run scored in the last inning when when Crystian Merrill reached base on an error and then scored on Kelly Young's hit. Rubino pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and striking out seven in the loss.
Parsippany 18 Summit 6
The Redhawks used the long ball to power past Summit 18 to 6 in a six inning game. Parsippany got off to a fast start. Lead off hitter Carrie Whalen walked to start the game. Crystian Merrill, batting second, then hit a two run home run to center field. The team would add one more run before the inning ended. Summit tied the game at four in the bottom of the fourth inning on three hits and two Redhawk errors. However, Parsippany took the lead for good in the top of the fifth thanks to a three run home run by Kaitlin Flanagan. Christine Hayner and Kelly Young had two hit each for the Redhawks and Christina Simmons had a pinch hit triple in the sixth and latter scored. Kim Rubino got the win for Parsippany pitching six innings, giving up five hits and striking out thirteen batters without issuing a walk.
Parsippany 2 Mendham 0
For the second time this year Parsippany knocked a team form the ranks of the undefeated beating Mendham 2 to 0 on a one hitter by Kim Rubino. Mendham came into the game 10-0. The Redhawks struck early, scoring a run in the top of the second inning. With one out Dana Romano walked and later scored on Mimi Ra's two out single up the middle. Ra was the offensive star of the game going 2 for 2 with a walk, one RBI and one run scored. Both teams threatened in the fifth inning. Parsippany loaded the bases on consecuative hits by Ra, Carrie Whalen and Crystian Merrill. Mendham pitcher Clair Kenny got out of the inning by getting by the next three batters with a strike out and two fly balls. Mendham had their best scoring opportunity in the bottom of the inning. An error and infield single put runners on second and third with one out. A sharp grounder was then hit to Lindsay Kennedy, who was playing in to cut the run off at home. Kennedy held the runner at third and then threw the batter out at first. After a walk Rubino struck out the next batter on a 3-2 count to end the inning. The Redhawks added an insurance run in the seventh. Ra walked and then scored on Whalen's second hit of the game. Rubino finished the game with six strike outs, two walks and one hit batter.
Parsippany 5 Butler 2
Parsippany defeated the Butler Bulldogs 5 to 2 in a preliminary round game of the Morris County Tournament. It was the Redhawks third win in a row. Parsippany, who was seeded thirteenth in the county, sent 10 players to the plate in the second inning scoring four runs. As it turned out this was all that they would need. With one out Kelly Young reached first on an error. She then scored when the next batter, catcher Stephanie Ziemski, hit a double to left field. Hits by Dana Romano and Mimi Ra and a fielder's choice by Lindsay Kennedy loaded the bases. Carrie Whalen and Crystian Merrill each followed with RBI singles. The final run of the inning scored when Kim Rubino drew a bases loaded walk. The Redhawks scored their fifth run in the third inning on base hits by Ziemski and Romano. Rubino went the distance for Parsippany giving up one earned run on five hits. She struck out ten Bulldogs and walked one. The Redhawks next opponent in the MCT is fouth seeded Morris Knolls High School.
West Essex 2 Parsippany 0
For the second time this season West Essex pitcher Danielle Bertscha shut out the Redhawks 2 to 0 ending Parsippany's three game winning streak. West Essex scored a run in the first inning aided by two Parsippany errors. They added another run in the second. Kelly Young and Kim Rubino got the only two hits for the Redhawks. Rubino pitched seven innings giving up seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Mendham 14 Parsippany 1
The Redhawks committed a season high eight errors resulting in eleven unearned runs in their 14 to 1 loss to Mendham. The game was ended after five innings due to the mercy rule with Mendham leading by thirteen at that point in the game.
Morris Knolls 11 Parsippany 1
Parsippany was knocked out of the Morris County Tournament losing to Morris Knolls 11 to 1 in the first round of play. The Redhawks were once again their own worst enemy committing four errors leading to six unearned runs. The Redhawks lone run came in the second inning when Kaitlin Flanagan led off with a double and later scored on Kim Rubino's ground out to first base. Parsippany managed only one other hit in the game, a single by Mimi Ra in the fifth inning. Rubino gave up ten hits and two walks in the loss.
Parsippany 3 Hanover Park 2
For the second time this season Parsippany came form behind to defeat the Hornets of Hanover Park. The Hornets scored their two runs in the second inning thanks to two walks by pitcher Kim Rubino followed by a throwing error two outs later. Parsippany closed the gap scoring a run in the top of the third. Charraye Shihadeh, making her first start of the year at third base, lead off the inning with a double over the center fielder's head. Shihadeh was injured on the play as she made her way to second and was replaced by Kaitlin Flanagan. Flanagan later scored when Carrie Whalen reached first on an error. The Redhawks took the lead for good in the sixth inning. Kim Rubino lead off the inning with a single. Stephanie Ziemski then hit a double to left field putting runners on second and third. Mimi Ra, the next batter, singled to center field scoring both Rubino and Ziemski. Rubino pitched seven innings giving up only two hits, striking out seven and walking two.
Parsippany 5 Morris Catholic 0
Kim Rubino had one of her finest pitching performances of the season as Parsippany defeared NMorris Catholic 5 to 0 under the lights at Smith Field. Rubino allowed only two base runners the entire night, a walk leading off the fouth inning and a single in the sixth. The Redhawks played solid defense behind Rubino, notably Crystian Merrill and Lindsay Kennedy who made several fine plays that turned potential hits into outs. Parsippany scored their first three runs in the fouth inning. Stephanie Ziemski lead off with a walk and hot hitting Mimi Ra singles. Kelly Young followed with a two run single. Latter in the inning Dana Romano was hit by a pitch and then scored on Carrie Whalen's single. The Redhawks scored two more runs in the sixth inning on consecutative walks by Ra and Young and a two RBI single by Kelly Flanagan.
Parsippany 2 Dover 1
Parsippany extended it's winning streak to three as they defeated Dover 2 to 1. The victory avenged an earlier loss to the Tigers. Dover struck first scoring their only run in the first inning on a ground out RBI by Chanlet Currence. The Redhawks tied the game in the third inning when Lindsay Kennedy walked and then scored when Crystian Merrill single was misplayed by the Dover outfielder. Parsippany took the lead for good during their next at bat. Kaitlin Flanagan got the first of her two doubles on the day. She then moved to third on a wild pitch. With one out Kelly Young hit a come backer to the pitcher who threw Young out at first base. Flanagan broke off third for home and made a terrific slide into to plate avoiding the tag form the Dover catcher when the ball was thrown home from first base. Kim Rubino pitched seven strong innings giving up five hits and no walks. She struck out three batters. For the second game in a row the Redhawk defense was flawless with no errors in the field.
Morris Hils 6 Parsippany 0
The Redhawk infield committed six errors leading to four unearned runs as Parsippany feel to Morris Hills 6 to 0. Parsippany's offense was limited to only one hit, a single by pitcher Kim Rubino in the first inning. Rubino pitched seven innings giving up five hits and three walks. She struck out six Morris Hills' batters.
Parsippany 5 Parsippany Hills 1
For the second time this season the Redhawks defeated in-town rival Parsippany Hills High School 5 to 1. Parsippany struck early scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Carrie Whalen lead off with a walk. Crystian Merrill was next and reach base on an error. Kim Rubino drove in one run on a fielder's choice and Kaitlin Flanagan drove in the second run with a single. The third run of the inning was a result of Kelly Young's fielder's choice which brought home Rubino. In the second inning Whalen walked and latter scored on Flanagan's second hit of the game. Parsippany's fifth run came in the fifth inning. Mimi Ra singled and was driven home on a hit by Whalen. Rubino pitched seven innings giving up four hits while striking out ten.
Whippany Park 11 Parsippany 0
Parsippany was defeated by Whippany Park 11 to 0 in a five inning game. The Redhawks managed only two base runners the entire night. Kelly Flanagan reached on an error in the third inning and Christina Deleasa walked in the fifth. Crystian Merrill made her first pitching start of the year and took the loss.
Chatham 4 Parsippany 1
Chatham six to four but five Parsippany errors proved to be the difference for Chatham. Pitcher Kim Rubino took the loss despite giving up no earned runs in the game. The lone Redhawk run came in the fourth inning when Kaitlin Flanagan drove home Carrie Whalen who singled leading off the inning.
Parsippany 15 Summit 0
Parsippany finished out the Iron Hill Conference portion of their schedule by beating the Hilltoppers of Summit 15 to 0 in a five inning game. The Redhawks compiled a respectable 10 and 8 conference record in 2005. Parsippany scored early plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning aided by three Summit errors and two walks. The Redhawks added four more runs in the second on hits by Carrie Whalen, Kim Rubino and Kaitlin Flanagan. Parsippany put the game away in the fourth inning with the big blow being a three run home by Kelly Young. Rubino pitched five innings giving up only one hit with nine strikeouts. She did not walk a batter.
Hopatcong 5 Parsippany 0
Parsippany closed out the regular season with a 5 to 0 independent game loss to Hopatcong. The Redhawks' season will continue as they have qualified for the state tournament. Hopatcong scored three times in the third inning on two hits and an error. They added their final two runs during their next at bat, again aided by a Parsippany error. The Redhawks managed five hits off of two Hopatcong pitchers. Kim Rubino pitched seven innings giving up seven hits, walking two and striking out two.
Caldwell 9 Red Hawks 0
For the second time in three years the Red Hawks fell to Caldwell High School in the state tournament 9 to 0. The Red Hawks finished the 2005 season 12-13.

KRISTY RUBINO CHOOSES GETTYSBURG COLLEGE
Senior captain Kristy Rubino will be attending Gettysburg College in the fall. Rubino, who has not played this year due to a knee injury, will play for the Gettysburg Bullets softball team next spring. The Bullets compete in the very competitive Centennial Conference which is comprised of teams from Pennsylvania and Maryland. In 2004 Gettysburg posted a 25-12 record. Kristy will be majoring in Health and Exercise Science and hopes for a career in physical therapy.
