Gearing up for the 2014/2015 Season

Welcome to the Parkland Community Basketball website for basketball in the Parkland County, Spruce Grove, and Stony Plain area of Alberta, Canada. This year we celebrate our 23nd year as a community basketball program and we are looking forward to another great season this year!

If you aren't familiar with our league, it is a recreational, co-ed league for kids grade 2 through grade 12 (born 1997-2007). Each team has a weekly practice during the week and a refereed league game on Saturday. All registered players are placed on a team and all receive equal playing time.

All divisions run from September until end of February, except the Juvenile (grade 10-12) division that only runs until end of November. We do not do any fund-raising although we are looking for volunteers in a variety of positions including coaches, assistant coaches, division coordinators, team managers. Registration fees are $175 per player or $350 per family. As the juvenile division runs a short season, fees for this division are $90 per player. There will be a $25 per player late registration fee for all who register after September 11.

Our registration nights are over but we are still accepting late registrations in all divisions. Please contact Gina Bennett at for information. A $25 late registration fee will apply to all registrants. Also note that there is subsidies available for financially challenged families through KidSport Parkland. The form is available on the KidSport Alberta website: under the local chapter named Parkland. Or contact them at 780-963-8591 for more information on this.

Here is the information about Parkland Community Basketball evaluations for those already registered. Please bring shorts, t-shirt, runners and a water bottle. We use these events to help divide the teams evenly. Please attend if possible.

We are also looking for more people interested in making some extra money while getting some excercise by refereeing our games on Saturday. If you are interested in this, please contact our referee coordinator Alison Normand at to register and for more details. Edmonton Youth Basketball Association Option

For those that are looking for a higher level of play, the League is also looking into the possibility of sponsoring teams to play in the Edmonton Youth Basketball Association. If there is enough interest teams would be organized for U13 and U15 ages. All interested players would be contacted to attend tryouts before the PCBL Evaluations on Sept 20. If chosen for a team, the player would not be eligible to play in the PCBL. Anyone who does not get chosen for an EYBA team would be play on a PCBL team as per normal.

Fees paid to PCBL would be forwarded to Dave as partial payment for EYBA fees. Exact costs would be determined after the teams are organized. EYBA teams are not co-ed, and are more competitive than PCBL. Practices would be in Spruce Grove and games are in Edmonton. If they play A division, games are on Tuesday or Wednesday. Divisions B-E games are played on Saturday. Parents would be required to coach the teams. EYBA league runs from October to March. If there are further questions about this option, please contact Dave Oldham at or 780-901-2738.
