Sumner PanthersRound Robin Tournament
Hi everyone! Now that the season has started we will be preparing the wrestlers for their first tournament. It will be a round robin tournament hosted by the Sumner Panthers. The tournament will have a weigh-in from 7-9AM. The wrestlers will need to be wearing a singlet to step on the scales. They will check skin and fingernails. Please trim them close. You will be filling out a card with your wrestler’s name, age and years of experience. Once the weigh in is completed the coaches will then have the wrestlers cards and proceed to put them into groups of 4 doing their best to match up age, weight and experience. The age group is determined is by year of birth. If your birthday is in 2001 or later you will be an 8/under. 2000 or before will be 9/over.Once this is complete the host will announce for certain age and weight groups to go to the staging area. It would be a good idea to know where this is in advance. Once in the staging area they will be grouped and sent to the mat to wrestle. Make sure they have their wrestling shoes, singlet and headgear on when going to staging. Usually the mats are sectioned off to accommodate 6 to 8 matches at a time. They will be numbered but it will be random as to where they wrestle. The tournament usually starts with the age 8 and under and then the 9 and over. Starting with the lower weights and progressing up. Once the first round of wrestling (all ages and weights) has concluded, the second round will begin. There will be 3 rounds total, giving your wrestler 3 matches. Because the numbers don’t always add up your wrestler may receive a bye. This happens when there is a number not divisible by 4. We do the best we can to avoid this but it sometimes happens.Once you have completed your match in the 3rd round you are free to go or stay and watch some of your fellow teammates. The tournaments usually end around 3pm. It is quite an experience! Some of the things that I recommend are to show up early to weigh in without feeding your hungry wrestler. The reason for this is to have them at their lightest and then get them fed with time to digest. We do not promote dieting! The other thing is to bring some healthy snacks and possibly lunch. There will be concessions at the event if you want to eat there.
Volunteer help needed!! Please refer to the Round Robin Setup & Volunteer Sheet on the calendar for this Friday for details on the helping make this weekend's Panther Round Robin a success!!
Weekly Panther Newsletter #2
Hi everyone! What a great start to the season! The Panthers have over 100 kids signed up with more still coming. Everyone is picking up the practice routine quickly and I can see the progress already. I want to thank the people who are coming in early to get the mats cleaned and set up. It really helps when practice can start on time.
Monday we will start distributing the singlets. Please remember to bring $30 in cash or a check for the refundable deposit. We could use volunteers to help distribute them. There will be order forms for Panther apparel. I will have size samples later in the week so you can get the correct size. The apparel tends to run one size smaller than normal (If you wear a medium order a large). The orders will need to be filled out by 11-10. It will take approximately 2 weeks to process the order.
There will be a coaches clinic on Tuesday, 6pm at Mountainview for those of you interested in getting your card.
The weight board will be out this week. Please take a look and see if your wrestler is in the appropriate spot. If your wrestlers name is upside down it means we are missing either medical release or code of conduct form. These are required to participate in league events such as the Round Robin this Saturday. The flyer will come out today. If this is your first tournament please read the Round Robin attachment and it will walk you through the day. Be prepared for an exciting tournament!
I will be sending out an email for volunteering. It will have a short description of the duties and approximate times. Please take a look at this and use the sign up sheet at practice reserve your spot.
Thank you again for all your time and support.
