Introduction

Palm Coast Little League teams are managed and coached by volunteers, typically parents of players. Every team, from T-Ball through Juniors, needs 1 manager and a maximum of 2 assistant coaches.

A committee reviews candidates and establishes a list of potential appointees. The PCLL President appoints all managers and coaches, subject to ratification by the Board of Directors. There is no seniority or tenure in serving as a manager or coach year to year.

Little League requires that all local Little leagues perform background checks on all volunteers. As such, every managerm, coach and member of the Palm Coast Little League is required to have a background check performed every year. We are currently using a service provided by Rapsheets.com. Please consult their website if you have questions regarding the information sources used for the background check.

The process for volunteering is simple. Please do the following:

1.   Register here (online)

2.   Make a photocopy of your Driver's License. (Only clear, legible copies will be accepted - color copies welcomed)

3.    Mail the copy of your Driver's License to:

Palm Coast Little League
Attn.: Volunteers
P.O. Box 352597
Palm Coast, FL 32135-2597

* Remember that filling out a League Volunteer Application does not guarentee a volunteer position with the League.

Thank you. You will be notified once the background check is complete. If you have any questions on the process, please contact the League Information Officer at info@pcllonline.com.

What is a Parent Meeting?
Get Off on the Right Foot
A parent meeting is typically the first thing you need to do prior to your first practice. The parent meeting allows you to cover your coaching philosophy, set up practice times, gain volunteer support and answer any questions. As well, it is a time for the parents to get to know you and the other parents.

The meeting should be held about 2 weeks prior to the first practice. The meeting should be a requirement for all parents. Express your goals of the practices and games. Establish agreed upon days and times for practice, and remind them that players should arrive for games about 30 minutes prior to game time for warming up.

It is a good idea to create a short letter or overview that outlines the things you want to cover. The letter is also an opportunity for you, as a manager and coach, to establish the upcoming season's guidelines and convey them to the parents.

Take some time to discuss the letter and answer any concerns. This is an important first step in establishing a good relationship with the parents.

NYSCA Web Button
National Youth Sports Coaches Association

The Palm Coast Little League has become a NYSCA Chapter. What does that mean if you are a coach or want to help our coaching?

The NYSCA program provides volunteer youth coaches with valuable information on the psychology of coaching children, first aid, safety, how to organize fun and interesting practices, maximizing athletic performance, tips on teaching sports techniques, how to help children avoid drugs, tobacco and alcohol, as well as many other important areas.

To become an NYSCA member coaches must pass a written test on the material presented during the clinic and sign the Coaches’ Code of Ethics pledge, which stresses the importance of placing the emotional and physical well-being of players ahead of any personal desire to win, among other important points.

NYSCA coaches receive four issues of the Youth Sports Journal, a publication that provides coaches with valuable information on all aspects of youth sports coaching; a $1 million excess liability insurance policy; and they’re eligible for the prestigious National Volunteer Youth Coach of the Year award.

More than 1.8 million volunteer youth coaches have been trained by NYSCA through its 2,200 chapters that exist nationwide.

The NYSCA training program is one of many programs of the National Alliance For Youth Sports, a nonprofit organization that works to provide safe and fun sports for America’s youth.

The cost of the clinic is $20. For more information, or to register, contact Michael Esposito by emailing to nysca@pcllonline.com for more information.
