Just a word about Fall Ball

PCLL has a fall season to prepare players for the competitive spring season.  Fall ball's focus is to be 100% instructional.  Scorekeeping and pitch count are kept solely to remain within the guidelines not so that a winner or loser can be identified.  There are no winners or losers in fall ball.  Everbody wins because everybody is learning. *************************************************************************************************

Parents, be sure to get all the latest PCLL information directly.  Simply add your email information to our database by forwarding your name and contact number(s) to pcllinformer@bellsouth.net.  Your information will only be used for PCLL news broadcast.

 **************************************************************************************************

Calling all volunteers:  PCLL can use your assistance right away in the Concessions area for any gameday/night of your choosing.  Just stop into the booth and see Peggi, Vicki or Sara and thanks in advance for helping to make your child's league a success. Parent's please note that we continue to need your assistance in the concessions area for at least 15 minutes during the game when your child's team is the visiting team.

*************************************************************************************************

HELP WANTED: Can you umpire or would you like to learn.  PCLL is always in need of more volunteers in this critical area.  The fall season is the perfect time to get involved.  Everyone learns during the fall including umpires. If you can offer your time in this unique way please stop by the concessions area anytime and speak with Bob Miller, Head Umpire.

What is PCLL?
The Palm Coast Little League is a program of service to youth. It is geared to provide an outlet of healthful activity and training under good leadership in the atmosphere of wholesome community participation.

Our Little League program is fiscally responsible and works hard to provide a quality program to the residents of Flagler County. In addition, we pick managers and coaches who adhere to a strict combination of rules, ethics and background checks.

The Little League movement is dedicated to helping children become good and decent citizens. It inspires them with a goal and enriches their lives towards the day when they must take their places in the world. It establishes the values of teamwork, sportsmanship and fairplay. From its founding in 1939, Little League Baseball has kept its goal of helping children develop citizenship, discipline, teamwork, and physical well being through sports. This has been the heritage of the Little League movement, which has established its success in the arena of youth sports. It is through athletics that youngsters learn their own strengths and weaknesses, the meanings of sportsmanship and cooperation, and the qualities that constitute effective leadership.

Aluminum Bat requirements changing in 2009 for Majors and below...
If you will be buying a bat for your baseball or softball player and you believe he or she may still be using it in Spring season 2009 be sure that it will meet the new requirements.

Current rules state that a Little League aluminum bat in Majors and below be a baseball bat and that it is no longer that 33" and 2-1/4" in diameter. A softball aluminum bat for Majors and below must be a softball bat no longer than 33" and 2-1/4" in diameter.

The new rule coming into affect for 2009 will be that an aluminum bat must have a Bat Performance Factor (BPF) of a -1.15 and be 2-1/4" diameter in both baseball and softball Major league and below. Aluminum bats must have the BPF printed on the bat. Only baseball bats will be used for baseball games and softball bats for softball games. Softball bats are normally referred to as bottle bats due to it shape.

Little League's Position on Abuse of Steroids...

Joe Torre Safe at Home Logo
The Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation
There can be nothing more devastating to a child than abuse and violence at home. Home should be a sanctuary, a safe harbor from any storm. Yet, for many children, home is a place of danger and fear of an abusive adult.

Joe Torre knows that fear. He lived it as a child. Even in his formative years, Joe stayed away from home, fearful of his own father, who abused his mother. As Joe became a father himself, he realized that no child should have to live with that fear.

It is in that spirit, and in memory of his mother, Margaret, that the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation has been established. The Foundation's guiding principle is that every child has the right to be safe at home.

NYSCA Web Button
National Youth Sports Coaches Association

The Palm Coast Little League has become a NYSCA Chapter. What does that mean if you are a coach or want to help our coaching?

The NYSCA program provides volunteer youth coaches with valuable information on the psychology of coaching children, first aid, safety, how to organize fun and interesting practices, maximizing athletic performance, tips on teaching sports techniques, how to help children avoid drugs, tobacco and alcohol, as well as many other important areas.

To become an NYSCA member coaches must pass a written test on the material presented during the clinic and sign the Coaches’ Code of Ethics pledge, which stresses the importance of placing the emotional and physical well-being of players ahead of any personal desire to win, among other important points.

NYSCA coaches receive four issues of the Youth Sports Journal, a publication that provides coaches with valuable information on all aspects of youth sports coaching; a $1 million excess liability insurance policy; and they’re eligible for the prestigious National Volunteer Youth Coach of the Year award.

More than 1.8 million volunteer youth coaches have been trained by NYSCA through its 2,200 chapters that exist nationwide.

The NYSCA training program is one of many programs of the National Alliance For Youth Sports, a nonprofit organization that works to provide safe and fun sports for America’s youth.

The cost of the clinic is $20. For more information, or to register, contact Michael Esposito by emailing to nysca@pcllonline.com for more information.
