All Star Tournament Update - Calling All PCLL Fans
Our baseball teams are doing very well so far in the 2009 Heat Fest, aka the All Star Tournament…
Coach McCray’s 9/10 year old team gets a second night off tonight after defeating Northside and Tampa Bay over the weekend. These were impressive wins. They will face the winner of tonight’s Keystone v Tampa Bay game (played tonight on Field C) on Wednesday evening. The other semi-final in this tournament has tonight’s winner of Skyway v Citrus Park taking on Bayshore tomorrow evening. Weather permitting, the disctrict championship game will be played Thursday evening. All of this action is at PCLL.
Coach Hollowell’s 10/11 baseball team is having an equally impressive run defeating Tampa Bay, Northside, and West Tampa on consecutive days. They start single-elimination play tonight on Field A at 6:30 versus Citrus Park. A win tonight puts them in the district final tomorrow evening at Interbay LL. This is a huge game for PCLL and I’m encouraging PCLL fans to turn out to support these guys tonight.
As of this time I have no update on the softball tournament and have fielded a number of questions regarding the delay – none of it was under our control or our fault. It is a delay at Southern Region that I can’t explain. I share everyone’s disappointment with this delay and can only encourage Little League to review and improve its paper flow – it is cumbersome to say the least.
Our baseball and softball Major and Junior programs are still on track to start play next Monday, June 29th – I’ll get more information out on these games later.
On a sad note, Bret Cansler, who served as president of Bayshore Little League in 2006-2007, passed away last week after a short battle with cancer. Bret was a big supporter of Little League and former player at Plant HS. This year’s All Star Tournament has been dedicated to the memory of Bret by Greg Sinadinos, the district administrator. Bret is survived by his wife and two children. In our small south Tampa community, we share the family’s grief – please keep them in your prayers. Bret’s obituary notice.
