2008 PA Hockey Scholastic Showcase Highlights



Latrobe 6 Greensburg CC 0

Latrobe won a spot in the Director’s Cup final with a 6-0 pasting of the Centurians. Jayson Angus scored a hat trick and Ryan LaDuke posted five assists for the Wildcats as Nick Loyacona made 16 saves for the shutout. GCC goaltender Ryan ‘Smudge’ McHugh held GCC in the game with 31 saves.


Seneca Valley 6 Penn Trafford 3

Penn Trafford came out flying in the opening period of this semi-final with 20 shots but could not solve Seneca goaltender Ryan Schutte. The Raiders opened up a 1-0 lead and then exploded for four goals in 2:02 to open up a 6-0 lead through two periods. Penn Trafford scored three power play goals but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders would move on to the Director’ Cup final 6-3. Logan Pfeffer scored two goals for SV.

Latrobe 2 Bethel Park 0

In a tremendous defensive hockey game Latrobe and Bethel were scoreless through 2 ½ periods until Zack LaDuke pocked home a rebound to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead with 6:01 to play. Robert Himler added an empty netter to seal the victory for Latrobe.


Chartiers Valley 0 Penn Trafford 14

Penn Trafford defeated Chartiers Valley 14-0 to earn all five points and a wild card berth in the Medal Round. Chase Keibler had 7 points including four assists for the Warriors.


Franklin Regional 2 Seneca Valley 7

Seneca Valley won the B Bracket with a 7-2 win over Franklin Regional. Seven different Raiders scored goals as the Raiders broke open a 2-2 tie after the opening period.


Canon McMillan 6 Kittanning 5

The Big Macs erased a 3-1 Kittanning lead with three unanswered goals in the 2nd period . Kyle Almasy scored a pair of goals and Grant Strimel added three assists for Canon Mac and Willy Koster scored a pair for the Wildcats


Upper Arlington 2 Upper St Clair 3 OT

James Kline scored his 2nd goal of the game just 8 seconds into the overtime period to give Upper St Clair a 3-2 win over Upper Arlington. USC outshot UA 56-22 and the Panthers spoiled a terrific goaltender performance by the Bears Drew Cook, who stopped 53 of 56 shots.


West Allegheny 3 Greensburg CC 5

Greensburg CC spotted West A a 2-1 lead in the opening period and stormed back to earn a 5-3 win and a spot in the Medal Round. Nick Persechetti scored a pair of goals and added two assists and Bobby Sokol chipped in three assists for the Centurians

A Chartiers Valley 0 Latrobe 14

Latrobe continued its undefeated season with a 14-0 pasting of Chartiers Valley.

Andrew Ong and Ryan LaDuke scored hat tricks for the Wildcats as they outshot the Colts 46-5.


Bethel Park 3 Penn Trafford 6

Penn Trafford continued its impressive play with a 6-3 win over Bethel Park. Dan Maier and Carlin Crombie scored two goals for the Warriors and B.J. Zagorec picked up three assists in the win.


Franklin Regional 3 Canon McMillan 5

Canon McMillan erased a 2-1 Franklin lead with 3 straight goals to earn a 5-3 victory. Evan Godfrey scored twice for the Big Macs.


Kittanning 3 Seneca Valley 4 SO 2-1

In easily the best hockey game of the tournament thus far Seneca Valley edged Kittanning 4-3 in a shootout. Mike Rohm and Logan Pfeffer scored in the shootout and goaltender Ryan Schutte stopped all 4 of the Kittanning shooters in the extra session. Freshman Heinz Koster scored a pair of goals for the Wildcats.


Upper Arlington 3 Greensburg CC 5

Greensburg CC won its 2nd game of the round robin with a 5-3 victory over Upper Arlington. Bobby Sokol and Dan Brennan scored two goals each for the Centurians.


Upper St Clair 3 West Allegheny 4 OT

West Allegheny’s Tyler Fitzgerald scored his 2nd goal of the game at :15 of overtime to give the Indians a 4-3 victory over USC. Jeff Cupelli added a goal and two assists for West A.



Chartiers Valley 0 Bethel Park 5

Tommy Whetsel and Michael Shipley score twice as Hawks outshoot Char Valley 43-10 for a 5-0 victory


Penn Trafford 2 Latrobe 5

Latrobe holds off a feisty Penn Trafford club for a 5-2 win as Andrew Onge scores twice and Cody Ray adds a pair of assists for the Wildcats


Seneca Valley 4 Canon McMillan 1

Seneca Valley’s Mike Piertandrea scores two goals and Logan Pfeffer adds three assists as Raiders turn back Canon Mac 4-1


Kittanning 7 Franklin Regional 4

Kittanning rallies from a 2-0 deficit midway through the 2nd period and rattles off four unanswered goals for a 7-4 win. Ethan Zimmerman scores a hat trick and Heinz Koster adds a pair of goals for the Wildcats


Greensburg CC 5 Upper St Clair 2

Kevin Claybaugh scores twice and Dan Brennan adds a goal and three assists for the Centurians


Upper Arlington 2 West Allegheny 4

Jeff Cupelli scores twice as the Indians defeat Upper Arlington outshooting them 31-14
