2009 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase Highlights  

Monday December 28th  

Latrobe 

   2 Upper St Clair     5
Upper St Clair moves on to the Medal  Round with a 5-2 victory over Latrobe. C.J. Murray scores four times and Matt Wreggett stops 27 of 29 shots for the Panthers.  

Greensburg CC

   3  Central Catholic     6
Central Catholic defeats GCC as Kevin Kline and Eric Smith score a goal and three assists each for the Vikings.  

Kittanning

   5 Upper Arlington OH    3
Jake Enders, Troy Schall and Jordan Ford contribute a goal and an assist each as Kittanning knocks off Upper Arlington 5-3  

Seneca Valley 

   4 DeMatha - Maryland      0
Erik Larson scores twice and Ryan Schutte stops 14 shots to earn the shutout as Seneca Valley advances to the Medal Round with a 4-0 shutout over DeMatha  

Canon McMillan 

   5 Gateway    7
Jeffrey Donatelli scores twice and Andrew Plate adds a goal and an assist as Gateway advances to the Medal Round for the first time in 8 years.    

Loyola Gold - Illinois 

   4  Bethel Park     1 
Loyola Gold scores three times in the 3rd period to break a 1-1 tie, Louie Morici scores a goal and adds two assists and Corey Sheppard and Kyle Akers add a goal and an assist each for the Ramblers    

Sunday December 27th

Kittanning

 1 Loyola Gold - Illinois
Loyola breaks open a 1-0 game in the middle of the 2nd period as Nick Avino and Pat Veech score a goal and add an assist each and Alex Corrigan chips in two assists for the Ramblers.  

Gateway

 3 DeMatha - Maryland 
Andrew Plate scores a goal and sets up another and Jeffrey Siwik earns a shutout as the Gators continue their good play with a 3-0 win over DeMatha.  

Upper St Clair

11  Greensburg CC
USC knocks off shorthanded Greensburg CC 11-0. James Kline scores three times, C.J. Murray adds two goals and two assists and Justin Selep and Mike Sweeney add a goal and two assists each for the Panthers 

Upper Arlington OH

Bethel Park
Bethel Park’s Zach Volzer scores the go ahead goal late in the 2nd period and Michael Shipley chips in two assists and the Hawks defeat Upper Arlington 3-1. 

Latrobe

Central Catholic
Zack LaDuke scores three times and Tyler Ridder adds a goal and an assist as Latrobe overcome a good effort from Central Catholic 4-1.  

Seneca Valley

4 Canon McMillan 3
Seneca Valley rallies from a 2-1 deficit to score three unanswered goals for a 4-3 win over Canon Mac. Same Jarrett scores twice and Mike Piettrandrea scores the goa ahead goal in the 3rd period and adds an assist for the Raiders.    Saturday December 26th

Upper St Clair

9 Central Catholic 2
Justin Selep cores three times and linemates James Kline adds two goals and four assists and C.J. Murray chips in two goals and two assists as Upper St Clair rips Central Catholic 9-2  

Bethel Park

2 Kittanning 6
Kittanning breaks open a 2-1 game with four goals in the 3rd period to earn a 6-2 win over Bethel Park. Nolan Smouse scores a hat trick and Troy Schall adds a goal and two assists for the Wildcats.  

Seneca Valley

2 Gateway 1 SO 3-0
Gateway upset Seneca Valley earlier in the regular season and looked to do it again as this game headed to an overtime and shootout tied at 1-1. Seneca Valley’s Brandon Platt and Gateway’s Jon Kasper traded goals in regulation. Raider goaltender Ryan Schutte stopped all three Gateway shooters  and Tyler Messisca, Mike Pietrandrea and Brandon Platt scored for SV for the 2-1 victory.    

DeMatha - Maryland 

2 Canon McMillan 4
Canon McMillan broke a 1-1 tie with three unanswered goals for a 4-2 win over DeMatha. Zack McKown and Ryan Thomas scored a goal and an assist for the Big Macs. Dan Armstrong had both goals for the Stags.    

Loyola Gold - Illinois

7 Upper Arlington OH 1
Loyola Gold rolled into town in the mid afternoon and once they got their legs under them poured shots on UA goaltender Drew Cook who faced 45 and the Ramblers prevailed 7-1. Alex Corrigan scored twice and Louie Morici added a goal and an assist for Loyola.  

Greensburg CC

2 Latrobe 13
Defending Director’s Cup champs Latrobe turned up their game in the 2nd and 3rd period for a 13-2 win over Greensburg CC. Zach LaDuke scored four times and Erik Dickerson added three more for the Wildcats.
