The Showcase Story
The Director's Cup was founded in 1996 under the direction of the Western Pennsylvania Hockey Coaches Association. The Tournament is now known as the Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase.
The goal of the Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase is to bring together the best Interscholastic Hockey teams in Western and now Eastern Pennsylvania to compete for one championship. In 2003, the Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase will open its doors to Eastern Pennsylvania for the first time.
The lore of the tournament goes back to 1996, when in one of the usual after hour post-game coaches meetings, the Penn Hills coaching staff of Tom Deery, Brian Errigo and Jerry 'Dr. Evil' Bass,
and other coaches such as Dennis Shannon [Gateway] and Ron Steedle [Shaler] along with administrative gurus Al Lapiana, Paul Buckwalter and Mike Crespy came up with the idea of having a tournament at mid-season with ONE champion.
Over the years the stories of the Golden Mile as coaches feet would freeze to the rubber mats on the benches or the failure of the Zamboni starting or the waiting in the lobby as the tournament was behind schedule. Or it may have been the year Westmont-Hilltop's locker room flooded creating chaos or Kenny Vance from Canevin, a fixture at the event's early days, pitching to move the tournament so his feet didn't freeze to the stands at the far end of the rink or when a scary accident when Brian 'Brains' Errigo was struck with a puck by his own player and carted off in the ambulance and thanks to some generous work by Dr. Hank Thel of Beaver, who treated Brian and he returned to coach the next day. One of our favorite stories of Jim 'Mort' McVay firing his clipboard across the ice after a semi-final loss to Thomas Jefferson in overtime. The Showcase has survived and now has moved onto the beautiful Center Ice Arena.
Great performances remembered and although may not have won it it all need to be recognized. In 1996, the then 9th graders of J.B. Bittner, Louie Garritan and John Plack, who led Seton LaSalle to three straight medal round appearances. Gateway's Matt Kopaczynski's 4 consecutive Director's dozen as the tournament's top players leading Gateway to 3 Medal Round appearances. Greg Timmons and Jim McVay, in leading Canevin and Bethel Park to consecutive Director's Cup titles. And possibly the most prolific was Mike Papciak's 2002 assault on the Scholastic Showcase record books leading the Indians to a title. So many stories and some more to come !!!
Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase History
The Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase was designed to gather the top teams in the A, AA, and AAA classifications throughout Western Pennsylvania under one format to compete for the Directors Cup.
The tournament is divisional round robin culminating in the Directors Cup Gold Medal Championship. The proceeds from this event provide the Annual Pa Hockey Yearbook for the interscholastic hockey programs in Western Pennsylvania and the media outlets throughout the region, including the Pa Hockey Website the resource for Interscholastic Hockey in the State of Pennsylvania and throughout the USA.

Bethel Park captures 3rd Director's Cup over Franklin Regional
2007 Director’s Cup Final Bethel Park 5 Franklin Regional 2
DELMONT –
Franklin Regional and Bethel Park took different roads to advance to the 2007 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase Director’s Cup Final as both schools have played nine of the twelve years of the tournament. Both schools have a little different history in the event. Bethel Park is a two-time champion in 2000 and 2001 and has advanced to the Director’s Cup a record six times in nine years including and astonishing 8 times, with the exception being a year ago when the Hawks were ousted by Quaker Valley in the preliminary round.
The Panthers on the other hand have been to the Director’s Cup only in 2003, which happens to be the same year FR advanced to the Penguins Cup AAA final after defeating Bethel Park in the PC Semi-Finals at Rostraver. Franklin lost to Quaker Valley in the 2006 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase Semi-Finals in double overtime, so this squad was looking to take advantage of a rare trip to the finals. Franklin Regional was the aggressor early on and had several nice chances, but the Hawks Ben Garcia was equal to the task. At 9:46 of the opening period, BP’s Jared Marks long shot from the far boards found its way through the 5-hole of Anthony Livecchi to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead. It only took 38 seconds for the Panthers to answer as Patrick Coyne’s wrist shot beat Garcia low to the stick side at 9:08 to knot the game at one apiece. A heads up play by Bethel’s Chris Mandia just 19 seconds later gave Bethel Park the lead for good as he banked a shot off of Livecchi and behind him from below the goal line to give BP a 2-1 lead at 8:49. A very evenly played first period ended with the Hawks outshot FR 12-10. The second period was high tempo and a great skating defensive battle as Garcia and Livecchi stopped everything thrown at them as the Panthers owned the edge 9-7. The beauty of this hockey game was that it was clean with good checking and fast paced as a championship game should be. On to the third period and the games first penalty came at 12:06 to Bethel Park and Franklin capitalized as Jared Yesko found a wide Patrick Coyne shot off the back boards and deposited into an empty cage to tie the game with 11:49 to go. The Panthers had the momentum, but Bethel Park would answer with the big goal as Brennan Kerr back the FR defense in and used them as a screen and unleashed a shot that handcuffed Livecchi up hig and found its way behind him at 8:24 to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead. FR lost its composure and gave Bethel a power play less than a minute later and the Hawks made the Panthers pay as Chris Mandia, camped himself in front of Livecchi and re-directed a low shot by Zach Blake thru the Franklin goaltender with 7:06 to go and give BP a 4-2 lead. Tyler Trocano added an empty netter with under a minute to go, but the outcome was a Bethel Park Director’s Cup celebration with an impressive 5-2 victory over a very good Franklin Regional team.

2007 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase - Bethel Park and Franklin advance to Director's Cup
 | |
2007 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase Semi Final – Bethel Park 6 Prairie Ridge 2
DELMONT –
Prairie Ridge Head Coach Casey Van Damme has turned around the hockey program in a very short time and one of the stepping stones for the Wolves prominence into the Blackhawk Cup chase was the their 2006-07 Director’s Cup title over defending Pennsylvania Class A champions Quaker Valley after a run of beating eventual Pennsylvania Class AAA champions North Allegheny and Ohio semi-finalist Upper Arlington. So coach Van Damme rolled the dice, if you will as PR took to the road again in 2007 to the National Invitational Scholastic Showcase and further prepared the Wolves for their battles in Illinois with a tremendous showing in Jamestown by defeating Illinois power Fenwick and Florida Finalist North Broward Prep in their final preliminary game. As tiebreakers would dictate, the Wolves ended up in a shootout with North Broward Prep and fell by a goal of making the NISS semi-finals and a date with New Trier Green, who is one of the top 3 teams in Illinois and a team beaten by North Broward Prep in the NISS semi-finals 4-3 in a double overtime shootout. The bump in the road in the NISS preliminary round was none other than Bethel Park, who defeated Prairie Ridge 3-2 in an overtime shootout. Head Coach Jim McVay’s squad has been banged up in the first half of the season and still has a few players out of the lineup, which has forced the Hawks to play some of it’s younger players and has gained experience and depth as some of the Hawks are starting to return to the lineup. The ultimate goal for Bethel Park is to win it’ 6th Pennsylvania Class AAA title and a year ago the Hawks fell in double overtime to North Allegheny after being the # 1 seed and favorite for much of the second half of the season. BP lost 13 seniors from its team from a year ago and the first half of the 2007-2008 has not been exactly what was anticipated, but watching the development of this team from early December to now has been very interesting and their play in the 2007 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase has been even better. An opening 5-0 victory over Montour started the push, a 2-1 win over # 2 Class AA West Allegheny started some people believing and then a convincing win over Upper Arlington 5-0 added to the confidence level into the Semi-Final. Both teams came out flying in their rematch as Prairie Ridge held a 10 – 5 shot advantage in the opening period. Bethel’s Zach Blake scored on a long wrist shot thru traffic caused by Chris Mandia for a 1-0 lead at 12:56 for a power play goal and 1-0 lead for the Hawks. The Wolves tied the hockey game after some nice work by Pat Houk and Alex Crisci worked the puck to the front of the net and Doug Kaminsky drilled it home and we were tied at one apiece. Bethel Park continued its surge in the second period as the line of Tyler Trocano – Tommy Whetsel and Tyler Shipley came to the forefront to lead the Hawks to one of its best periods of hockey of this season outshooting Prairie Ridge 17-7 and scoring two goals to seize a 3-1 lead. The first goal came from defenseman Nick Machi, who swooped in the PR zone and beat Marcelo Jorge to make it 2-1 at 7:01 and then the backbreaker came from Tyler Trocano after a beautiful setup by Tommy Whetsel less than two minutes later at 4:14 for a shorthanded goal and a 3-1 lead.
That same combination lit the lamp again early in the third period on the power play as Tommy Whetsel buried a very nice passing play with Trocano and Nick Machi and the Hawks were now in control 4-1. Prairie Ridge came back to cut the lead to 4-2 at 10:39 as Pat Houk scored a big goal. Bethel Park would not be denied as Whetsel scored less than a minute later at 9:44 to make it 5-2. The Hawk’s Chris Mandia tipped in a Zach Blake shot with 1:47 to go for a power play goal and an impressive 6-2 semi-final win and a 5th trip to the Director’s Cup final.
2007 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase Semi Final – Franklin Regional 3 Seneca Valley 2 [OT]
DELMONT –
Seneca Valley’s Mike Schall participated in the Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase in 1996 as a member of the Raiders and fell in the Semi-Finals to inaugural Director’s Cup champions South Park in an excellent hockey game at the Golden Mile. The Raiders program has been there and back since then as they has survived a year without a Varsity and have grown through great development with the North Pittsburgh amateur association and to four school teams and flourished in a very tough division including Pennsylvania Class AAA champions North Allegheny, 8-time Pa champ Meadville and perennial Penguins Cup playoff participant McDowell. The Raiders are in the process of becoming a player within the division and Class AAA. A win over Bethel Park in the St Margaret Fall Face Off and regular season triumphs over Meadville and McDowell give the Raider faithful great hope of things to come. The pitfalls are that Seneca Valley has been inconsistent and dropped some games it maybe should win, which is part of the growth and development and will have to diminish should the Raiders hope to make a run at the Penguins Cup in the future. Franklin Regional’s hockey program is teetering at this point in time and the prospects for the future look pretty bright as over 25 kids are currently in the Little Panthers. But as we live in the present, the current FR Panthers are off to it’s best start in years at 9-1-1 and ranked # 3 in the Post Gazette hockey rankings. The lobe blemish on Franklin’s record is a 3-2 loss to # 1 ranked Latrobe in a game the Panthers held the lead and allowed late goals to lose. The Panthers have a very deep team with a combination of skill, speed and size and with a terrific goaltending tandem of James Orr and Anthony Livecchi, hope to challenge for the 2008 Class AA Penguins Cup in March. The 2007 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase was a roller coaster ride with a heartstopping 6-5 victory over Class A power Quaker Valley, a 2-1 overtime setback to neighborhood rival Penn Trafford in overtime and then an 8-2 thrashing of South Park. With all of that said the Panthers had to have the help of Quaker Valley to defeat Penn Trafford in overtime 5-4. As the Panthers gathered around the board at Center Ice Arena and watched PT take a 3-0 lead over Quaker Valley, there were probably some of the players and coaches, who may have doubted they would ever see the Scholastic Showcase semi-finals, but with a breath of new life, the Panthers would get that second chance and a chance at redemption for last year’s double overtime loss to Quaker Valley in the Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase semi-finals and another opportunity to play for the Director’s Cup with Seneca Valley in the way. Franklin Regional and Seneca Valley was a little slower pace than the previous semi-final game, but nonetheless both teams could not find the net as Franklin outshot Seneca 12-9 and the Panther’s James Orr and Seneca’s Ryan Schutte were perfect. The Panthers would strike first at 10:27 of the second period as Steve Shirk took a terrific pass from Patrick Coyne on a shorthanded breakaway and beat Schutte on the backhand for a 1-0 lead for FR. Four minutes later at 6:09, it was Coyne again setting up Brian Buckley who score just inside the post to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Franklin Regional had several chances to extend the lead, but Ryan Schutte made some terrific stops and the Raider defense stiffened late in the second period. Seneca was mounting their own attack but Franklin’s James Orr was equal to the task turning aside 14 shots in the middle frame to add to nine in the first period to shut out the Raiders. 2007 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase Semi Final – Franklin Regional 3 Seneca Valley 2 [OT] Seneca Valley did not quit and use the momentum by all of the nice saves by Schutte to continue its quest. A power play to start the third period helped aid Seneca to keep building momentum and it paid off as Brandon Plat fought off several defenders and beat Orr at 13:47 to give the Raiders its first goal, a power play goal at 13:47 and plenty of time to go. Schutte stopped Steve Shirk on a breakaway to give his team a great boost with less than five minutes to go. Seneca Valley just kept coming in wave and James Orr was doing his best to keep his team in front, but the Raiders would not be denied as Platt scored again after some great work by Logan Peffer and Matt Jarrett to keep the puck alive and the game was tied at two apiece with 2:01 to go. Emotions were riding high and both teams battled into overtime. Overtime was no stranger to either of these teams as Seneca defeated Latrobe earlier in the day and Franklin fell to Penn Trafford less than 24 hours earlier. Brandon Platt was maybe a little too aggressive and was whistled on a roughing call and Franklin Regional would have a great opportunity to end this game and advanced. The Panthers are a cat with many lives in this tournament and survived Quaker Valley, the emotions of losing to Penn Trafford, surviving the tiebreakers and see-saw Penn Trafford – Quaker Valley contest, which was out of their hands and Cats with lots of live run out of them. One more chance and they pounced on it, as Eugene Mack pounced on a Steven Shirk rebound with 7:05 remaining in overtime and chipped it by Ryan Schutte and set off a massive show of emotion for the Panthers, who mobbed Coyne and overcame another step. A bigger step lie ahead for these Panthers in the Director’s Cup final with Bethel Park.

2006 Directors Cup Final
Prairie Ridge 5 Quaker Valley 1
Delmont
A year ago, Fenwick became the first out of town school to participate in the Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcases 11year history. The Friars fell short losing to Bethel Park 4-3 in the 2005 Semi-Finals. Prairie Ridge took the quest one step further defeating a solid Upper Arlington team in overtime 4-3. The Wolves would face a Cinderella effort of Quaker Valley, who defeated Bethel Park, giving the Hawks their first preliminary round loss in 8 appearances and then defeating a red-hot Class AA Franklin Regional club in double overtime.
Prairie Ridge went for the jugular in the opening period pummeling Zac Zinger and the Quaker defense with 20 shots in the opening stanza. Sean Hogans shot from the point snuck through a maze of bodies and behind Zinger at 7:22 of the 1st period. Quaker Valley was able to convert on one of its 6 shots as Colin South scored on the power play with 5:14 remaining in the period.
The Wolves from Crystal Lake, Illinois would not be denied in the second period as the continued the onslaught with 18 more shots in the middle frame. The duo of Jon Rowell and Cam Comeaux led the way as Rowell scored at 9:09 of the period and then Comeaux provided the big insurance goal wit 5:04 to go.
As Prairie Ridge entered the third period and Quaker Valley ran out of gas only managing 14 shots on Marcelo Jorge as the total on Zac Zinger reached 40 for the Wolves. The defensive tandem led by Zack Gadomski, Sean Hogan, Steven Gadd, Tyler Benson, Kyle Kehoe and Kevin Engledow smothered the Quakers and would not let them get close to Marcelo Jorge. Doug Kaminsky at 9:50 and Pat Houk with just :12 left capped off an impressive 5-1 victory for Prairie Ridge as they came to Western Pa and captured the Directors Cup with an impressive win against some of Western Pas and Ohios best. Congratulations to Casey Van Damme and Prairie Ridge and as quoted from someone who has been the Showcase a long time a true class act and deserved champions

2006 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase Semi-Final
Delmont -
Prairie Ridge 4 Upper Arlington 3 (OT)
Upper Arlington head coach Jay Graham elevated his program in 2006 by marching the Golden Bears to the Ohio State Semi-Finals before losing to eventual champions Padua. UA won the Capital Conference championship pretty handily and worked its way through their state playoff bracket in convincing fashion. Knowing that his team needs to compete with the Cleveland teams, Upper Arlington ramped up their schedule a year ago and was looking to do so again in 06-07 to continue the process of becoming champions in Ohio and be the first Columbus / Cincinnatti area team to challenge the Toledo and Cleveland schools who have dominated the Ohio crown. In their inaugural trip to the Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase, the Golden Bears defeated Penn Trafford and West Allegheny easily and then defeated Pennsylvania Class AA champions Pine Richland in a classic 5-4 overtime victory with Andy Grindleys goal with just :05 on the clock in OT.
Prairie Ridge, out of the Chicago Metro Central League is off to a 12-0-1 start this season and has similar aspirations to Upper Arlington in the Blackhawks Cup. Head Coach Casey Van Damme has taken the program over and in a very short time, he and assistant Rick Rewiako have transformed the Wolves into a very solid hockey club with discipline and have proven to be a class act around Illinois hockey circles. PR opened the Showcase with a win over Peters Twp, but fell in a hard fought contest to Latrobe the very next day. Coach Van Damme and Rewiako continued to keep a positive spin with their club and faced an uphill climb against 3-time defending Directors Cup champions North Allegheny, who had waltzed their first two opponents. The Wolves came out and dominated NA all over the ice winning all three period and edging the Tigers out of a Semi-Final spot by a single half point with an impressive 5-1 victory.
Upper Arlington opened the scoring early in the first period as Blake Greiner scored on a rebound after nice work by linemates Andy Grindley and Hartwell Marable at 12:02.
Prairie Ridge continued working hard and bottled up the Golden Bears in the opening period forcing AU penalties resulting in Wolves power plays. On a 5 on 3 opportunity, Billy Rinn finally beat Golden Bear goaltender Ian Ansel through the 5-hole to tie the game 1-1 with 4:19 to go in the first.
The Wolves would seize control of this hockey game in the second period as Doug Kaminsky buried a wrist shot past Ansel to give PR the lead at 10:43 for a 2-1 lead. It didnt take long to extend the lead as Cam Comeaux continued his fine play in the tournament setting up a Jon Rowell goal just 2 ½ minutes later and Prairie Ridge earned a 3-1 lead, that it took to the ice cut.
The Golden Bears fought back in this hockey game but only managed six shots in the final period of regulation. While Ian Ansel pitched a shutout at his end to keep Upper Arlington in the hockey game, Blake Greiner drew UA closer on the power play with a goal with 9:17 to play. Still the Wolves were playing excellent defense and limiting the chances on Marcelo Jorge, but a great individual effort by the Bears Nick Paraskos who shredded the Prairie Ridge defense and beat Jorge to tie the game with 3:35 to go in regulation.
The Wolves dominated the overtime in shots at 10-3 thanks to two power plays courtesy of Upper Arlington in the extra frame. Ian Ansel was spectacular for the Golden Bears in the pipes, but quick thinking and a bullet shot by Pat Houk from the left hand boards beat the Upper Arlington goaltender with :48 left in overtime and gave Prairie Ridge a spot in the Directors Cup final against Quaker Valley.

Lemieux ends Franklins run and continues QVs march to the finals
2006 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase Semi-Final
Quaker Valley 2 Franklin Regional 1 (2 OT)
Delmont
Franklin Regional is Western Pennsylvanias hottest team in Class AA with seven consecutive victories in the regular season and a 3-0 finish in Bracket B with wins over South Park, Eastern Pa Class A power Perkiomen Valley and Upper St Clair in an opening shootout thriller, the Panthers are starting to look like a contender in March with a combination of steady goaltending and hard working balance throughout their lineup. Head coach Jim Daugherty has to be excited and is even more anticipating the return of sophomores Patrick Coyne, who has been sidelined since the beginning of the season and Eugene Mack, who will return to the lineup early in January. The Panthers have a deep enough lineup to compete with anyone in Class AA and possibly to compete with Pine Richland, who they will meet in the season finale prior to the playoffs.
Quaker Valley captured the Pennsylvania Class A State title in March and it as been a dream ride ever since for Kevin Quinns club, who have opened the season in defense of their championship at 9-0-1 and ranked # 1 in the Pa Hockey Class Elite 8 poll. One thing that has changed for the Quakers is that they are now the measuring stick of Class A hockey in the State of Pennsylvania replacing Serra, Bishop McCort, Radnor and Penncrest, who preceded QV with that role. In this years Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase, the Quakers defeated Gateway and Walsh Jesuit, but it would be the match-up with # 1 ranked and undefeated Class AAA power Bethel Park that was a date on the schedule which would create interesting possibilities for QV. Although the Quakers were outshot 38-13, goaltender Zac Zinger turned in a spectacular performance and Mikael Lemieux scored twice to forge a tie through overtime, earlier in the day. The possibilities were even more enticing when the 5 player shootout was tied 2-2 through the first five shooters. George Jackson buried the decisive blow and Zac Zinger stopped Logan Bannon giving Quaker Valley an improbable 5-4 shootout win and a date in the semis.
Franklin Regional and Quaker Valley engaged in a true defensive battle through the opening period with QV holding a 3-2 shot advantage in a scoreless tie. The second period was a different story as the Panthers dominated play with an 11-6 shot advantage and took a 1-0 lead at 6:29 remaining in the 2nd as Ryan Kramer converted a Brian Buckley passed from behind the net and beat Zac Zinger after an excellent forechecking effort by the Panthers.
The third period was evenly played as Zinger and Anthony Livechhi battled and the score remained 1-0 in favor of Franklin. Colin South had the periods best chance but his wrist shot to the short side rung on the crossbar as the Panthers clung to a slim 1-0 lead. An untimely penalty with less than six minutes to go in regulation would prove costly with an unsportsmanlike penalty at 5:51. Quaker Valley used most of their man advantage to set up the tying tally as Mikael Lemieux pounced on rebound after some nice work by George Jackson and Colin South to move the puck to the front of the net and the Quakers tied the game with 3:55 to play and force overtime.
Quaker Valley and Franklin Regional would continue the battle into overtime and both teams had power play opportunities but Zac Zinger and Anthony Livecchi would be equal to the task. FRs best chance came late in the first overtime as Turner Andritz had Zinger leaning the wrong way and the shot sailed just wide of the right post. The 11th Annual Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcases leading point getters would decide this contest on the opening faceoff of the second overtime as Lemieux won the draw forward to South who preceded over the blue line and slid a perfect pass to Lemieux, who buried a backhand over Anthony Livecchi to cap a dream day for the Quaker Valley program and a date in the Directors Cup final.

GAERTNER'S HAT TRICK LEADS TIGERS OVER LATROBE, 10-2, IN TOURNAMENT OPENER
PA Hockey Scholastic Showcase
DELMONT ~
Report provided by North Allegheny Hockey Club
Senior Dan Gaertner scored three times and senior Wes Waldschmidt added two goals and four assists as the Tigers routed Latrobe, 10-2, in the opening game of the Scholastic Showcase Tournament at the Center Ice Arena in Delmont. Senior Matt Lancaster also scored twice with junior Jake Williams, sophomore Dylan Rohar and sophomore Brady Waldschmidt the other goal scorers for the Tigers.
The Tigers got off to a quick start when Gaertner scored just 29 seconds into the game to give NA the 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Wes Waldschmidt set up Williams for a power play goal on a cross ice pass. The Wildcats came back later in the period with two quick goals to tie the game. Jeff Ragula cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal at the 5:29 mark, and Michael McCurdy tied the score twenty seconds later. Lancaster answered with another power play goal to give NA the lead for good with 4:30 left in the period. Rohar just beat the clock to give the Tigers a two-goal lead when he scored with four seconds remaining. NA took a 4-2 lead into the second period.
In the second period, the Tigers scored five unanswered goals to take control of the contest. Once again, NA scored with Wes Waldschmidt making it 5-2 just twenty-two seconds into the period with assists going to seniors Brad Schwartzmier and Mike Peterson. Gaertner picked up his second goal on a deflection of a shot by Schwartzmier from the blue line to increase the margin to 6-2. Sophomore Donny Lewis set up Brady Waldschmidt for a power play goal to increase the margin to 7-2 with 4:48 left in the period. The Tigers were not done. Rohar made a good move to set up Gaertner for his third goal at the 3:56 mark. Just nine seconds later, Lancaster skated past two Latrobe defenders before driving home his second goal of the game as the Tigers took a commanding 9-2 advantage into the final period.
The only game of the third period came when Wes Waldschmidt scored an unassisted power play goal early in the period with 13:03 remaining. The game turned physical when a frustrated Latrobe team started taking penalties. NA made them pay with four power play goals. There were 18 total penalties in the game, eleven against the Wildcats. The Tigers outshot Latrobe, 28-9, allowing just one shot in each of the second and third periods. Give credit to the NA defense with good efforts given by Williams, freshman Tyler Wright, junior Corey Sheran, Wes Waldschmidt and sophomore Adam Jacob.
With the win, the Tigers moved to 1-0 in the Group A standings in the tournament. NA will meet Peters Township tonight at 8:30 pm as group action continues. The Tigers will complete group play tomorrow afternoon when they face Prairie Ridge (IL) at 12:30 pm. The semifinals will be played tomorrow night with the final on Sunday at noon.

The Pa Hockey Network - 2004 PA Hockey Scholastic Showcase
The Pa Hockey Foundation is in its infancy to help defer the cost of Interscholastic Hockey, while promoting the sport. The PA Hockey Website has been the leader in Pennsylvania in promoting Interscholastic Hockey and now has a new wrinkle.
Starting with the Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase, the Pa Hockey Network will begin a new journey for how Interscholastic Hockey is covered. With our partners from Bx Video, the Pa Hockey Network will be televising on demand from the Center Ice Arena in Delmont ....the 2004 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase. The schedule is as follows:
Sunday December 26, 2004 ~ 2:30 PM
- The 2004 Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase Skills Competition
Tuesday December 28, 2004 ~ 6:30 and 8:30 PM
- Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase Medal Round ~ Semi-Finals
Wednesday December 29, 2004 ~ 7:30 PM
- Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase Director's Cup Final
Many of you have viewed the test game earlier this year and the
response has been fantastic. If you haven't checked it out, it is
still available. The Pa Hockey Network and Bx Video are very close
to presenting the Pa Hockey Network LIVE and On-Demand. If your
rink has high speed internet access and your club would like us to
do an upcoming game, please e-mail us !
If you didn't have a chance to see the All Stars at their
best at the Skills Competition ....it is right here on the Pa
Hockey
Network !
