Outlaws compete in North Carolina
The Outlaws recently competed in the "Charlotte Open" at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, NC. The team roster consisted of seven members of the Outlaws, four members of the Massena NY broomball league and two additional members from the "Back on Track" Syracuse broomball league team. The tournament began on Saturday morning July 23 and late into the evening. The Outlaws first faced the Nomadic Horde (Wash, DC?) in game one. The Outlaws scored first only to have the Horde even the score at 1-1. The Outlaws again grabbed the lead making it 2-1 only to have the Horde answer right back making the score 2-2. In the second half of the game (two 18 minute running time halves) the Outlaws again took the lead at 3-2 and held on until just over a minute left in the game when the Horde notched another goal on a defensive miscue and the ball ending up in the Outlaws net. Final score 3-3.
Game two for the Outlaws was against Cincinnati. The Outlaws had control for much of this game and lead 3-0 until mid second half when Cincinnati was able to get a goal. Final score 3-1.
Upon completion of pool play the Outlaws were seeded 4th of the 9 teams competing. This placed the Outlaws in their Saturday evening matchup against the Baltimore (MD) Broomball Club. The Outlaws scored two goals early, withstood some pressure by Baltimore and ended up winning the game 4-0.
Standing at 2-0-1 the Outlaws advanced to the semi finals scheduled for Sunday morning. The opponent, none other than Barrie's Tavern (Syracuse, NY). Despite the fact that the Outlaws were completely outclassed in this game they were able to keep the game somewhat competitive with the final being a loss 4-1 to Barrie's. The lone goal scored by Gerritt Crisafulli. Others scoring goals during the tourney were Mike Thompson (6), Mike Nezzezon, Pat Keefe, Dan Henner and Jake ? of Massena. Overall a decent showing and a great experience. Very competitive tournament with many close games, however Barrie's Tavern was the class of the field, clearly. The Outlaws will not return to the ice until September 2011 for practices at the Baldwinsville NY rink. The month of August will be a much needed break.
