  Academic Excellence

Gee-Gees Acknowledge Academic Excellence
The University of Ottawa Softball team has always been very proud of our student-athletes’ success off the field as well as on it. We are very pleased to report that in the four-year history of the program we have maintained a 100% graduation rate for all students competing on the team. In the past two years we have had six athletes honoured by the university for achieving Grade Point Averages’ of 8.0 or higher. We have been one of the university’s most successful teams in this regard and would like to acknowledge the efforts this year of: Pam Hrick, Erin Durant, and Kelly McFadden.
We would also like to recognize Pam Hrick and Shannon Lundrigan for being elected to represent their respective student associations. Pam is the President of the Political Science Society, while Shannon leads the Engineering Society.
These athletes have carried on the tradition of excellence off-field for the Gee-Gees. In 2003, the same year as the team won the OIWFA Championship, Danna Masters was awarded the University of Ottawa's Female Athlete of the Year Award. At the same ceremony, Nicole Dunlop completed the sweep when she won the Competitive Sports Club's Award of Merit. This award is given to a student-athlete who excels, academically, in athletics, and in the community. Nicole has been instrumental in the development of Softball Canada's Learn to Play Program that has inspired a revival in the sport for 5-8 year olds.
We are extremely proud of all of these athletes who increase the quality of our program. We look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence in 2006.
