  Welcome

The Over-the-Mountain Recreational Youth Football League offers participation for players in grades 3rd through 6th that live in the Over-the-Mountain areas (Hoover, Homewood, Vestavia, Pelham, Shelby County and others). The philosophy of the program is to develop football fundamentals, encourage participation, and have fun playing the game. The goals of the program are to develop a sense of achievement, leadership skills, and a positive self-image for all participants.  Unique Features include restricted team sizes, limited school night practice schedules, convenient game times and mandatory play guidelines. See League Guidelines on the menu.

The emphasis of this program is basically twofold; the new or less skilled player and the player who is ineligible for competitive football because of weight limits. The objective centers around maximizing playing time for the less skilled and developed as opposed to the concept of winning. The league guidelines are structured around safety concerns, for example restricting players to line play who exceed weight limits. Also guidelines are in place to address and enhance playing time of the less skilled and developed player. This is accomplished by restricting the playing time of the more advanced / skilled players. The league officials formulate the team rosters with a mission of creating teams of parity with a 500 season expectation, this of course can be influenced by coaching.
