Dave Sohn Inducted into National Wrestling Hall of Fame 

Long time wrestling coach, teacher, and friend to so many within the Orono community and throughout the state, David M. Sohn was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame this Spring.  A previous State Champion from Blue Earth, MN, Dave contributed immensely for decades to not only the Orono wrestling community, but to the overall growth of wrestling in Minnesota. Dave coached many elite teams in Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco Roman wrestling. He played a key role in creating the United States Wrestling Federation and was also involved in the development of the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament as we know it today. Some of the individuals enriched by Dave Sohn are pictured at the National Hall of Fame event from left to right are Steve Arne, Allen Eisenger, Mike Arne, Brian Arne, Blake Sohn, Matt Hammerland, Rich Reiser, Larry Johnson, Peter Dubay, Danny Nadaeu, Gary Peterson, Ed Eisenger, and Bob Scherer.

Arne Places 2^nd at Jr. State & Northern Plains Greco Tournament

Junior wrestler, Ryan Arne cruised to the finals of the Olympic style Greco Roman state and regional Northern Plains wrestling tournament at 140 pounds.  Ryan had impressive wins over several National All-Americans, including national runner up Bo Schlosser of IL.  In the finals, Ryan gave multiple State and National Champion, Dylan Ness, everything he could handle in one of the most exciting and technical matches of the state tournament.  Arne took the lead on Ness with an impressive first period takedown but came up just short as Ness scored with 15 seconds remaining, losing the period 2 – 1.  Ryan lost a very close second period 1 – 0.  Congratulations to Orono Spartan wrestler Ryan Arne on two great tournaments!

Ryan Arne, received a plaque to recognize his 150th win from Dave Sohn at the first annual Dave Sohn Invitational Orono wrestling tournament.
