LeBeau responded with a rope down the right-field line for a two-run double. Jenkins followed with another two-bagger to make it 3-1.

“It’s all about confidence for me,” Jenkins said. “I know that I can do it, and I go up there swinging every time. Bri is an excellent hitter. Sometimes it’s hard to follow her, but I try to rise to the challenge and I usually get it done.”

Player of the week
Mollie Lindeman (18U-GOLD), Hebron, In.  She went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and four RBI in a victory over Gavit on Thursday a day after having a home run in a victory over Merrillville.

 Stagg 3  - Homewood Flossmoor 1
After Kleinhow walked the opening two batters of the second inning, Vikings’ coach Katie Rice-Hoger replaced her with junior star (Sarah Burke (16U-SW). The junior star quickly nullified the Chargers’ attack, striking out 11 and allowing just one hit in the final six innings.
Rice-Hoger did not second-guess her decision to not start Burke. “You can’t pitch her every game, and that’s hindsight,” she said.

Richards 20, Crete-Monee 5: Hannah Jenkins (18U-SS)  powered Richards (9-0) to victory going 4-for-4 with a homer and 4 RBI.

Hannah Jenkins (18U-SS) (2-for-4, 3 RBI) led an active offense as Richards improved to 8-0 overall, 6-0 in conference. “We’re all pretty solid hitters,” said Jenkins, who walloped a two-run home run in the seventh. “We always focus on the ball first, and we get in the runs when we need to.”LeBeau got some breathing room in the fifth thanks to a two-run outburst that featured RBI singles by Jenkins and Kaminski. LeBeau drew a walk in the seventh and was sacrificed to second by Kappel (16U-FY) before Jenkins launched an 0-and-1 pitch over the left-field fence.

Lincoln-Way East 5, Marist 3: Kaycee Hart (16U-SB) (6-0) pitched a complete game in the Lincoln-Way East (7-0) victory. She also hit a 3 run homer and scored two runs.

◊Lincoln-Way East 19, Thornridge 0: Nicole Miskowicz (16U-SB) hit a home run and a double and racked up four RBI for Lincoln-Way East (5-0).

Richards 11, Bremen 0: Winning pitcher Brianna LeBeau (5-0) struck out seven in the win for Richards (7-0, 6-0 South Suburban Red). Sam Kusta (16U-SW) went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs.

Oak Forest 13, Lena -Winslow: Calie Delisi (14U-JT) had three RBI in the victory for the Bengals.
◊Last year Lake Central (Indiana) easily beat LaPorte 13-0 and advanced to the Class 4A semistate game, losing to eventual state champion Hamilton Southeastern 5-3. The Indians return all of their top five hitters -- Jess Haskins (18U-GOLD), Sam Terry (18U-GOLD), Kaitlyn Ranieri (18U-GOLD) , Nikki Adams and Marissa Maluchnik -- from 2010, and this high school version of Murderer's Row should spend much of the 2011 season knocking the ball around the yard. "Of these six girls, every one of them could be someone else's No. 3 hitter," L.C. coach Jeff Sherman said. "But they're great teammates. They understand that a couple of them might have to bat No. 6 or No. 7 for us. "It takes a special kind of person to put the team ahead of themselves." To think a team that scored 235 runs last year could be even better is frightening. Most offenses last spring rose up when the pitching rubber was moved from 40 to 43 feet away from the plate, but at Lake Central, it was like a rocket ship caught fire. "Last year, we didn't think we'd go as far as we did," Ranieri (18U-GOLD) said. "Now, our expectations are a lot higher. We want to win state. We have a lot of people back and we were not that far away from winning it last year."

Lincoln-Way West 12, Eisenhower 0: Meg Fahrforth & Erin Miller(14U-GK) combined on a one-hitter for the Warriors.
◊Evergreen Park 8, T.F. South 3: Sophie Kessler (18U-SS) (3-for-4) had a home run and two RBI for T.F. South (2-4, 2-3).

Lincoln-Way East 7, Minooka 1: Kaycee Hart (16U-SB) was the winning pitcher, striking out six and going 2-for-3 from the plate with an RBI.

◊No. 10 Richards 3, T.F. South 2: Breanna Kaminski’s double in the bottom of the sixth scored  Danielle Kappel (16UFY) with the winning run for host Richards (2-0, 1-0) in the South Suburban crossover.  Kappel (double) and Brianna LeBeau (triple) also had RBI for the Bulldogs.

◊No. 10 Richards 11, Oak Park-River Forest 8: Danielle Kappel (16U FY) contributed two hits and three RBI for host Richards (1-0).
◊Jarrell, Hart, Ernat, 16U SB Shine for LWE  in victory over OakLawn Batting in the nine-hole in Lincoln-Way East’s lineup, Nikki Jarrell (16U-SB) realizes chances to knock runners in may not be as plentiful as they were Friday. But playing in her first varsity game, the sophomore second baseman took advantage at the plate with runners on base, going 2-for-4 with four RBI in East’s 11-1 nonconference win over Oak Lawn in Frankfort in six innings.

Jarrell’s four RBI led Lincoln-Way East (1-0) in its season opener while Kacyee Hart (16U-SB) earned the win in the circle. The junior threw four innings, striking out six and allowing two hits and two walks with an earned run. Heading to the dish for her first varsity at-bat, Jarrell could not have asked for a better situation. With her team trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second with the bases loaded, she roped an offering that split the outfielders in right field. The ball rolled all the way to the fence for a bases-clearing triple, and Jarrell later scored on Jill Reid’s sacrifice bunt.

“Down 1-0 like that, I was just trying to get the job done and put the ball in play,” Jarrell said. After surrendering a run in the top of the first (an Allison Palhegyi RBI single), Hart went into cruise control over the next three innings. The junior did not allow a hit over the next three innings.

“I just had to focus on what pitches I could and couldn’t throw just based on the batters,” Hart said. “(The first inning) was those first-game jitters, and it’s easier once you get that first run in from your team.”
