The 2012 Winter Break Conditioning Camp is sponsored by Oregon Magic Girls Basketball Club. Six sessions will be held over a two week period from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill School in Eugene. This six day camp is designed for middle school girls entering 6th through 8th grades who want to prepare for winter basketball through physical conditioning and basketball skill activities. Each three hour session includes rigorous but age appropriate endurance training, jumping exercises, strength training, flexibility exercises, speed and agility events, basketball skill drills and scrimmaging. There is an emphasis on group activities and sportsmanship. The fee is $10 per session or $50 for all six sessions. Current AAU extended benefit membership ($16) is required and may be purchased at the camp.

Location and Times

The Conditioning Camp is held at Oak Hill School, 86397 Eldon Schafer  Drive in Eugene. The school is located behind the LCC East 30th Avenue campus. The gym will open at 9:30 a.m. for early arrival and individual shoot around. Activities will start promptly at 10 a.m. and girls are required to be ready to begin camp at that time. Camp ends at 1:00 p.m.

Registration

To register simply e-mail oregonmagic@msn.com  with the name of the camper and her grade and which days she is planning to attend. Payment and registration paperwork can be taken care of the first day of camp.

What to Bring

Wear appropriate basketball attire including shorts, t-shirt or tank top and basketball shoes. No jewelry, watches, etc. please. Bring your own water bottle. You do not need to bring a basketball. Since camp activities include strenuous conditioning, it is advisable to eat a moderate meal an hour or more before camp consisting of a good dose of high carbohydrate foods like whole grain bagels and breads, fruits or energy bars. Include some protein like nuts, yogurt or meats for staying power. After finishing the pre-camp meal, athletes should sip fluids during the period leading up to the camp to ensure that they are well-hydrated to begin activities. Snack bars and energy drinks are available during breaks.

Camp Staff

The camp will be supervised by Bill Goldsmith. Bill has coached youth level girls basketball for fifteen years  and has conducted summer and winter conditioning camps for girls for the past several years. He currently coaches the Oregon Magic developmental teams.

Attendance

Because many of the drills and exercises are progressive, girls will get the most out of the camp by attending all sessions. We realize that there can be many conflicting activities over winter break and attendance at all sessions is not required.
