its a girl thing

Some Great things from prior seasons:

Under the direction of a "peach of a volunteer,"  West Emerald Valley and Willamette Valley Softball leadership hosted the "First Ever Junior Softball Special Games" held in our District at Awbrey Park fields.  With a team from Lents (District 1) and LaPine (District 5), a fun and healthy competitive weekend event was shared - and new friends made!

Additionally, that same season, some of the same folks put together the first-ever Eugene-area Major Softball Special games event!  With teams coming in from other Districts, the young ladies all had a GREAT time!

It is a goal of leadership that events such as this will occur EVERY season - or, at the minimum, our teams will participate in special games events hosted by other Districts!  The opportunities need to be latched onto ... so the young ladies are having as much fun and opportunity to play as we can provide :-)

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN HELPING DEVELOP GIRLS' SOFTBALL IN THE LANE COUNTY AREA?  PLEASE CONTACT THE WEBMASTER.  THERE ARE SOME IDEAS BEING DISCUSSED WITH SOFTBALL REPRESENTATION ACROSS THE DISTRICT SPECIFIC TO DEVELOPMENT OF SOFTBALL - AND IT COULD BE REALLY EXCITING FOR YOU AS A VOLUNTEER AND FOR THE YOUNG LADIES - AGES 5 OR 7 THROUGH 18!

With new leagues - and families pretty much "all new" to Little League, Softball's a new ball game for the young ladies!  The first year for District 9 included leagues in the Roseburg area where there had been years of experience in Softball.  With the 2003 season, Emerald Valley started up the first softball program in the Lane County area.  In 2004, McKenzie took over the softball program, and in 2005, all 5 leagues promoted registration in Softball - for Minors, Majors, and Juniors.

In 2007, the program has really started to 'take off'  with 8 Major teams, 10 player pitch minor teams, and 4 Junior Division teams!
believe in yourselfThe long-term vision is coming to fruition as 2009 brought in the first Seniors team ... having MORE would be helpful in scheduling games and keeping the team more active !!  PROMOTE GIRLS' SOFTBALL at every turn!  Little League's divisions are a great opportunity to keep the young ladies involved through age 18!

The Major League Softball World Series Website can be checked out at http://www.softballworldseries.com  -  or click on the picture!

Held on fields at the Alpenrose Complex in Portland, volunteers from all over the country merge on Portland in August to put on a top o' the line tournament for young ladies from around the WORLD.  The website, once the tournament starts, provides all the information you could want about what's going on there.  Also, volunteers are recruited each year - to help with the concession booth, memorabilia sales, pins, shirts ... you name it!  Interested in volunteering, contact this site's webmaster and let them know!

2007 Dates:  August 9 through 15
