REQUIRED VIEWING OF CHILD'S GOVERNMENT-ISSUED BIRTH CERTIFICATE
deadline rabbit

League Presidents/Player Agents are required to view the ORIGINAL or STATE-CERTIFIED COPY of each child's Government-Issued Birth Certificate prior their being evaluated or placed on a team  - to validate their legal date of birth.  No photocopies; no faxed copies.

The "Hospital Record" and "Baptismal Records" are not considered valid proof of date of birth.  "Passports" are proof of Citizenship, not considered a proof of birthdate.

Military Hospital Certificates and Military I.D. Cards for the children are considered legal proof of birthdate.

The legal documents are used toward verification of date of birth - documents will be returned to you immediately after viewing.

Of MAJOR importance:

Shortly after the September 11th Terrorist Attacks on U.S. soil, the State of California advised their "Abstract of Birth" is not considered a legal document for certification of date of birth.  If that is the only "birth certificate" you have for your child, based on most recent information out of California, the county where your child's record of birth is on file will, in exchange of receipt of the "Abstract of Birth" return a legal document at no cost.  Please contact the County Clerk's Office of the respective County to confirm how that county is handling this exchange.

IF YOU NEED TO ORDER A GOVERNMENT-ISSUED BIRTH CERTIFICATE, EITHER CONTACT THE COURTHOUSE OF THE COUNTY WHERE THE CHILD WAS BORN, OR GO TO http://www.vitalchek.com/.  - or at www.littleleague.org and click on the link to 'birth certificates on the directory.  (PAYMENT CAN BE MADE USING A CREDIT CARD; SHIPPING IS VERY PROMPT.)

** If, at the end of the season, your child is selected to a post-season All Star Team, an additional 'viewing' of the actual document is required for District Staff, and a photocopy will be retained for reference during the tournaments.  It will only be in the possession of the Manager of your child's team, and leagues are instructed to shred these documents (along with the proof of residence documents) on completion of tournament play.

VERY IMPORTANT REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS & INFORMATION

Little League bases its registration on two primary factors -

(1) the player legally resides in the chartered boundaries of the specific league they are registering in and

(2) the player is eligible due to their age.

To help determine which league's boundaries you reside in, and to catch any news specific to the leagues, click on the League Name in the upper area of this page, or the "Our Leagues" link in the directory.  Websites are updated by the local league, along with links to their specific" webmaster" or others to contact with questions.  Watch their sites for registration dates/times/locations, meeting information, and other important "stuff."  Please contact the WEBMASTER of THIS site (link in the 'directory") with any questions regarding registration for CHALLENGER DIVISION PLAYERS (physically or mentally challenged boys and girls League Age 5-21 - or thru  graduation from high school).

Little League does not limit participation in its activities on the basis of disability, race, creed, color, national origin, gender, sexual preference or religious preference nor will any league turn a child away for lack of or limited funds.

Little League is an "every child plays program" - (Confidential "sponsorships" available on request).  A league CANNOT require any proof of financial status or require payment in lieu of volunteering.  Parents should consider making a donation 'to the best of their ability' - but all leagues realize economics  and family situations may place limitations on folks.  We cannot or will not penalize a child and their participation based on the ability or lack of ability for parental participation.

"Challenger Division children may participate from Age 5 through gradutation from their high school program - generally age 21.

Some leagues are also looking into using "registration on-line" via their websites.  Links to each website can be reached using the directory on the left.  If you are unsure, feel free to e-mail the WEBMASTER of this site and the information will be forward promptly to the League contact.   Be aware, the League President and/or Player Agent will still require the viewing of your child's original Birth Certificate (or a certified copy), as well as 3 different proofs of residence - as noted below  before your child can participate.

Note:
Passports, Hospital Certificates, Baptismal Certificates, photocopies  or faxed copies of state-issued birth certificates cannot be accepted.  * Military Hospital Certificates and Military I.D. Cards may be used in lieu of a "state-issued Birth Certificate."  Per the State of California, and due to the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, no California ABSTRACT of Birth is considered a legal document.  (Contact the State of California or the County where your child was born to obtain a legal document.)  .

Beginning with the 2006 season and depending on the local league board vote, players league age 12 may be eligible to "try-out" for placement on a Junior Division team - moving up to the 90' basepath.  Again, this option must be voted in for each season by the local board, and the ruling must be  either "all 12 year olds" or "no 12 year olds" will be eligible to "try-out" for moving up to the next division.   The first goal is to fill rosters for Majors with 14 players per team.  Beginning in 2008, ALL 12 year olds MUST be placed on a Major team - with limited exceptions due to safety issues OR their desire to be "CONSIDERED" for placement on a Junior Divisoin team.

MOST leagues define divisions of play as follows:
Co-ed Tee-Ball - ages 5-7
Co-ed Coach Pitch Baseball - ages 6-8
Co-ed Player Pitch Baseball - ages 9-
11
Co-ed (but primarily boys) Major Baseball - ages 9-12
Co-ed (but primarily boys) Junior Baseball - ages 13-14 (tho 12's may 'tryout')
Co-ed (but primarily boys) Senior Baseball - ages 14-16
Co-ed (but primarily boys) Big League Baseball - ages 14-18
Girls' Softball Coach Pitch - ages 6-8
Girls' Softball Player Pitch - ages 9-12
Girls' Major Softball - ages 9-12
Girls' Junior Softball - ages 13-14 (tho 12's may tryout)
Girls' Senior Softball - ages 14-16
Girls' Big League Softball - ages 14-18

For all regular season player registrations (and for the parent to provide for viewing should their child be selected to an All Star team), Little League requires we view documents noted specific to certifying date of birth and residence within the local league boundaries before the child cn participate.
Remember to bring:

* your Child -
for uniform shirt sizing or know their size as what is ordered is what they will be wearing during the season

the child's original or state certified copy of a government issued birth certificate - no photocopies; no faxed copies - (The hospital record with the ever-precious footprints, passports, and Baptismal Records, etc. are not valid "proof of birthdate" documents).  Military Hospital Certificates and Military I.D. Cards for the children are considered legal proof of birthdate.  The legal documents are used toward verification of date of birth - documents will be returned to you immediately after viewing.  Additional Note:  After the  9-11 Terrorist Attacks on U.S. soil, the State of California  advised their "Abstract of Birth" is not considered a legal document for certification of date of birth.
IF YOU NEED TO ORDER A GOVERNMENT-ISSUED BIRTH CERTIFICATE, EITHER CONTACT THE COURTHOUSE OF THE COUNTY WHERE THE CHILD WAS BORN, OR GO TO
WWW.VITALCHEK.COM.  - or at www.littleleague.org and click on the link to 'birth certificates on the directory.  (PAYMENT CAN BE MADE USING A CREDIT CARD; SHIPPING IS VERY PROMPT.)

*  and at least three different documents with your current address. (Documents referencing a PO Box must include a reference to a Street Address.) Authorized Proof of Residence documents may include a combination of three of any of the following, but not more than one document from each category.  FOR EAZE, we are requesting it be kept simple - with the showing of:
            (1) a Current Driver's License
            (2) a Vehicle Registration
            (3) a Utility bill less than 6 months old or Insurance Document (with the address shown)
All three documents must show the same address as will be noted on the registration form, providing the league with proof the child resides within the legal boundaries of THEIR league.

The complete list of eligible "proof of residence" documents includes the following.  ONLY ONE DOCUMENT FROM EACH (GROUP) is allowed.  (2 drivers licenses = 1 proof of residence from group #1; a cell phone bill and a home phone bill = 1 proof of residence from group # 10).  "Envelopes" are not considered  legal proof of residence.  "Checks" are not considered proof of legal residence.  If you use a Post Office Box, documents used MUST also reference the physical street address of the residence.  (Standard 'joke" of reality is that we don't know of anyone that lives in a Post Office Box.)
