"Regularly Scheduled Registrations" are generally held in late winter and early Spring with an "every-child-plays" program running, at minimum, through mid-June.  Each league is responsible for updating their individual website and informing their community(ies) of meetings, registrations, and other important local-league functions.
Post-Season activities include tournament format for 'elected' teams for players League Ages 9 through 18.  Some leagues opt to run a "fall ball" program so there is an opportunity for continued fun and skill development.  If you have a child you're hoping to have participate,  or an interest in volunteering, please check with your local league to learn about their specific organizational format.

Please CLICK "ADAPTIVE BASEBALL" to learn about Little League's unique Challenger Division, our co-ed program for youth ages 4-21 - those who are "differently abled"

Per their charter with Little League, the local league shall only register age eligible players who legally reside within the leagues defined boundaries.  Any violation puts the league's charter at risk (possibly impacting all players participating) as well as its board members with respect to liabilities.
Curious about which league in District 9 your family is eligible to participate in for Tee-Ball, Baseball or Girls' Softball? Click on "Key in Address to Find Your League" and use the map which shows the boundary definitions for each of our four leagues. From there, you can click on a link and visit their individual website.

If you're interested in what happened with our teams or other activities during the post-season weeks when we moved into tournament format - or would like to see what happened during the state tournaments we hosted, check out the "2011 Post Season tournaments" page !!

With "Little League" ® still being the "new kid on the block" as far as youth activities in Lane County, this website is created and maintained in a slightly different fashion than most "local" or district Little League® sites.  Two primary goals of the site administrators are

(1) educating and informing site guests about what it is that makes Little League®  unique from other programs they may have available to them - for participation  as a volunteer, donations toward a non-profit, or programs for their children to participate in, and

(2) informing active families and guests about what's happening

First and foremost, Little League is a Child Development Program - using tee-ball, baseball and softball as our 'tools' of opportunity to interact with today's youth!

In browsing the site, we hope you'll  "catch Little League Fever" and find a way to become part of the "Little League Baseball and Softball" Family - where there is a program "For Every Child."
Little League - the entire program from the local league through international programs - does not limit participation in its activities on the basis of disability, race, creed, color, national origin, gender, sexual preference or religious preference, and will not turn any child away for lack of or limited funds.

The "Regular Season" of our local leagues generally begins with registrations starting up in mid-to-late January and, in our area, generally ends approximately June 15th after approximately 3 full months of team activities where:
"In Little League, Every Child has a place to play"
in Tee-Ball, Baseball, Girls' Fastpitch Softball, and our Adaptive Baseball divisions!  Our local Leagues generally plan on training for volunteers in late February or into March; team formation generally by mid-March; games beginning mid-March to early April and finishing 'regular season' by approximately June 15th.  Post-season opportunities include the Little League All Star tournaments where 'elected' teams participate in the International Tournament program - beginning at the "district-level."

Across our district, there may be opportunities for post-season or "Fall Ball" Training and Development of Little Leaguers (those who participated in the immediate prior season as well as interested new participants) - depending on each league's choices for and commitment to post-season activities.  These may include full on "games" and/or "clinic" type activities focused on pitching, catching, batting, fielding.

"Fifty years from now ...

... perhaps even just a moment way ...

it won't matter who struck out, who got a home run, or who dropped a fly ball
in your Little League game, but the world will be a better place because
YOU
took the time to
Make A Positive Difference in the life of at least One Child! "

For both Adults and Youth involved in Little League® - where the focus is, appropriately, on Child Development and ALL the kids are playing our heartstrings - there is an abundance of venues to make a positive difference!

Make "Best Use" of each and every moment you're gifted with ...
that ONE moment may be your only opportunity with that particular child !

LITTLE LEAGUE® BASEBALL & SOFTBALL's

*   Oregon District 9   *

currently serves families (youth ages 4 through 18) across Lane and north Douglas Counties with "conventional" teams in
  • Co-ed Tee-Ball,
  • Co-ed Baseball - coach pitch minors, player pitch minors, Majors, and Juniors,
  • Girls' fastpitch Softball - coach pitch minors, player pitch minors, Majors, Juniors and Seniors,
  • and with Little League's "Adaptive Baseball Division" -                  Challenger Division®. -  "The Bridge Between Observation & Participation" for children with 'different abilities" that would find it most "challenging" to play on a conventional team:  - for ages 4 through completion of their high school equivalent.

Following reference and links to the current leagues (below), additional information specific to the "divisions" of play across Little League! Overlapping ages allow the Player Agent a 'best means' of placing each child in the best division for their age, experience, and toward skill development.  Little League required all players (league age 9 and up) participate in a player evaluation process which provides tools for the Player Agent toward placement of these ages in specific divisions of play.

As we move into the 2012 Season of play, we provide FOUR chartered leagues, each serving specific boundaries across Lane County and part of Douglas County.  (Little Leagues are required to re-apply for charter annually, with their renewals effective January 1st.)  Click on the League Name below and/or visit the Local Leagues - Who/What/Where page for more information specific to each league.  Note: The "Challenger Division" (adaptive baseball) is run as a District-wide program so questions regarding that division should be directed to the District Administrator or District Challenger Development Representative.

The "League & Fiscal Year" runs October 1st through September 30th.  Outgoing "Board of Directors" are responsible for scheduling, publicizing and leading their league's General Membership Meetings and Elections so as to have a "new year" Board of Directors in place by October 1st.  As updates/changes are provided District, any revisions to contact e-mails or telephone numbers will be updated within "this" website.  If there are any challenges in contacting a local league, please notify the District Administrator.

Tee-Ball is generally ages 4-7. If a child is League Age 6 or 7 and has had one year of Tee-Ball, parents may request their child be moved up to the Minor Division/Coach Pitch.

Minors is generally ages 7-11.  Players League Age 8 will automatically be placed on a team in the Minor Division.  For Players ages 9 and up, the leagues run an 'evaluation' pre-season that assists the Player Agent in placing the child on the team best suited for their current skill AND development in the sport.  The goal of each league is creating teams balanced in skill for the most fun and the most educational format for each child.   The "Minors" for both Baseball and Softball is chartered as a fully instructional division.   Our leagues have had a 'coach pitch' and a 'player pitch' Minors program.  To-date, we have not had a "coach pitch girls' softball" program and have merged the girls into the baseball program, advancing them to player pitch minors when age-appropriate.  Within the next couple of years, we are hoping to develop a program specific to coach pitch minor Softball so the softball program has an earlier development stage.

Players ages 9 and older are ALL 'evaluated' pre-season toward placement on teams to help the Player Agent create the best balance of skills across all teams within each division as possible.  Little League emphasizes Fun while Developing Skills, and believes the most fun and positive environment is one where every team has the potential to win or to lose ... thus the focus on teams that are as 'even' and balanced in skill as possible where these ages are involved.

The "Major" division continues "instructional" play with a more competitive environment and is most-often open to youth League Ages 12.  Returning league-age eligilble Major players are automatically placed on a Major team.  All 12 year olds are on a Major Team*.   The Junior (13-14), Senior (13-16), and Big League (16-18) divisions are even more competitive.  * Players/Families may request their "League Age" 12 year old be given the opportunity to "tryout" for placement on a Junior level team.  Not being placed on a Junior team does NOT make the child ineligible for Majors.    Girls' Softball has a slightly different age structure for ages 13 and up.

For Baseball, as players move to the Junior division, the basepath changes from a 60' to a 90' basepath with a longer pitching distance.  There is a "pilot program" optional to each league that would have a 'graduated' advancement to a 70' basepath and a 50' pitching distance, but, through the 2010 and 2011 seasons, it is strictly a pilot program.  This is a "potential" pilot for the 11/12's and 12/13's.  Some leagues are reviewing the option.  There will be no 'post-season tournament' for this program, at least through the 2011 League Year.  Changes may come into play toward the 2011 or 2012 season  Check back with us for any updates.  For Girls' Softball, the basepath remains at 60', but the pitching distance and size of ball used changes slightly as the girls advance - with a maximum 60' basepath, and a 12" softball.

A child's "league age" for participation in Tee-Ball and Baseball is determined by the child's age on April 30th of the current playing year.  For Girls' Softball, in line with other softball programs, the players "league age" is that of the player on the immediate prior December 31st.

"Post-Season" activities ...
After a full season of "Every - Kid  - Plays" in your local Little League, players ages 9 through 18 have an opportunity toward election to a much more competitive segment - Tournament/All Star Teams - "Icing On The Cake" for approximately 5% of the regular season kids in any given league.  The number of teams (specific to certain ages) that can enter these tournaments is structured, thus limiting the number of potential participants.  Check with us or your local league for additional information and playing opportunities!
