Volunteer Background Checks
Dear District Administrators: Little League Baseball is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with Investigative Technologies, LLC, of Memphis, Tenn., to provide low-cost background checks for local leagues in 44 states and the District of Columbia. The background checks meet or exceed the requirements set forth in Regulation I (c) of the Little League Official Regulations and Playing Rules and will cost leagues just $1.50 per background check. This fee is a special offer only available to Little League programs. The regular price of this check is $19.95 per check with an additional monthly maintenance fee. These background checks will be conducted by appropriate league officials through the Investigative technologies web site, rapsheets.com. A special website will be created for Little League programs. The background checks will instantly review all of the Sex Offender Registries and /or criminal records of 44 states and the District of Columbia. The checks will NOT review records in California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, South Dakota and Vermont. Leagues in these six states still have the option of using the rapsheets.com service at a cost of $1.50 per background check. However, leagues in these states must contact the official Sex Offender Registry in the state to satisfy the minimum requirements of Regulation I (c). Little League and Investigative technologies are working diligently to enable the service as quickly as possible. Once available, Little League will announce the new relationship and the service's availability to the entire Little League community. Little League will also make available the details of accessing the information. Little League programs should not access the website until the details are finalized. Those Little League programs that access the rapsheets.com site prior to the special Little League site being created are subject to the $19.95 fee. Since announcing the child safety enhancements, Little League has worked diligently on providing tools for leagues to satisfy the requirements. We hope that leagues will find this new tool helpful. We expect that our next communication on this issue will address the larger Little League community, but we wanted to make you aware of this new development so you can plan for this broader release of information.
