The lower the pack times the better the CHANCEs for winning. A pack time should IDEALLY be less than 1 min HOWEVER winning a meet is directly linked to pack time AND PLACE! For example if you have a 45 second pack time but you finished 40th, 41st, 42nd etc… you will not win. You need BOTH Pack time and GOOD PLACING!

Hello everyone. We had a terrific week at camp and really got a good start on the season. Some odds and ends- 1) Practice is 9-11 tomorrow ( schedule may change towards the end of the week 2) No physical no practice- you must of had a physical AND the IHH form handed in. When in doubt CALL THE SCHOOL NURSE! 3) www.eteamz.com/onteoraxc for schedule and info I will see everyone at 9 tomorrow morning! Coach B

I have been informed by Mr. DiGiovanni, the athletic director, that since we are using the schools transportation and we are in season, all athletes attending camp must have been cleared by the nurse- meaning having had the IHH form in and physical up to date. Do not worry! I will have the list of cleared athletes on Monday. If you are not cleared on that list you CAN still go to camp however your parents will have to drive you . On Monday I will get the list and check it over. Hopefully this will not impact anyone since I have been telling you for 2 months to send in the forms ( IHH) and physcial forms!! I will see everyone tomorrow at 11:30! Coach B

FRIDAY AUG 15th UPDATE!!!!! Thank you to those who helped with the mats and thank you for everyone for coming to the meeting. There has been a change in the agenda- just slight however! On Sunday the 24th I will meet you at camp with the truck. WE will go with the bus, and truck to the Taconic hills HS and pick up the mats. since there are 18 of you this should go quickly. WE will load the mats on the truck and head back to WH and the HS. The anticipated return time has changed: WE will be back at WH at 12:00 and the HS at 12:15. THIS IS AN ESTIMATE!! If you have a cell phone bring it ( I know at the meeting I said no cell phones but this changes things a bit)- Once we leave camp you can CALL your parents for a more exact time! We will ALSO have practice starting on MONDAY the 25th!! ( I canceled it at first but we can do the mats Sunday) 9-11 on Monday is the 1st day of practice!! I URGE you to make sure you have a IHH form and a physical before we go to camp/ start practice!!

Hello everyone- this week will be a busy one! WED- Final XC summer series race at Twin Lakes BBQ will follow the race FRIDAY- Mat moving for anyone going to camp- be at the Hs at 9:00 AM. CAMP MEETING FRIDAY as well 12:00 - I do not anticipate this being a long meeting. MONDAY- CAMP- The b us will depart Onteora HS at 12:00 noon. Please bring everything to the HS. This will be discussed at the camp meeting For those NOT going to camp it is expected that you train in your own. 3-4 miles a day with one day rest. CAMP 18-24th MONDAY AUGUST 25th- NO PRACTICE Mat moving for some ( I will explain at the meeting) TUESDAY 1st day of practice 9-11 at the HS. At this time I will have a pracice schedule for you. refer to the website for the schedule of meets: www.eteamz.com/onteoraxc

VERY IMPORANT NEWS ABOUT XC AND COACHBURKHARDT*********************

Hello everyone, In case you have not heard by now, Coach Burkhardt needs your help! He has been transferred to the elementary school and will no longer teaching at the high school. This deeply impacts you! If you had him as a teacher you know that Coach Burkhardt was the one who brought the non traditional activities to the Phys Ed program. He taught the rock climbing, adventure ed, yoga, core ball, archery, dance, snowshoeing, etc.... This transfer means he will no longer be in the high school to continue teaching these activities. Coach Burkhardt is requesting an extension on his paternity leave with Keegan until March 29 2009, after which he will return to work - at Phoenicia not the high school! In terms of coaching it means that he will not be able to coach spring track and after this year he will not be able to coach anything. You may wonder why teaching in at Phoenicia would prevent him from coaching, but remember the elementary day ends an hour later than the high school. Obviously, he cannot be coaching high school students and teaching elementary students at the same time. The reasons for transferring Coach Burkhardt to the elementary school are not clear. So it makes me think the administrators must not know what he does for the students in the high school - which means WE need to tell them! Coach Burkhardt needs your help to notify the public and the board that this move is not in anyone's best interest. What can you do? Write a letter!! Have your parents write a letter!! The more letters the better!! In your letter, stress the importance of having him as a coach about also the importance of having him teach High School phys ed. Also in your letter be sure to tell them what Coach Burkhardt has done for you, what he means to you and the loss it will be for the school not to have him teaching at the High School and coaching XC/Track now and in the future. Where can you send it? To the new Board of Education, the Superintendent, the newspapers, and the principals. The new board is the most important resource right now because they have the power to change this!! They already changed one teacher from being transferred to another school and they can do it this time too!!

************ Think about how many times Coach Burkhardt has helped you!! Now he needs your help!!***************

If you have any questions, you can email me @ Xctrackneedsu@aol.com You are also free to contact Coach Burkhardt via email coachburkhardt2001@yahoo.com or by phone 845-331-0767 Thanking you in advance for your help, Tammy Alvarado You can send the same letter to everyone.
