Ontario District 5 Little League: Queen's Golden Jubilee

Two Volunteers Honoured With Queen's Golden Jubilee Medals
On Wednesday, December 18 District Five Little League was pleased to present two long serving volunteers of little league with Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medals at the Foglar Furlan Club. Windsor Mayor Mike Hurst and Windsor West MP Brian Masse were on hand to present the awards along with many family, friends and supporters of little league.
Former District Administrator George Shelley and little league and district volunteer Mary Jane Hacker were the recipients of this tremendous honour.
George, started out as a parent in Sandwich East Little League in 1970, and quickly became involved with coaching, later becoming a member of the board. George, was President of Sandwich East little league before becoming District Administrator for District Five in 1979. George stayed in that position until 1990. George took over District Five at a bad time, and with countless hours of hard work he has helped transform the district to what it is today.
Mary Jane, also started out as a parent in Windsor South Little League in 1968. In 1970 she joined the Windsor South board and has been involved at the league and district levels ever since. Mary Jane has been heavily involved in fundraising for little league. Most people will recognize her voice from doing the scorekeeping at most district, Ontario, and Canadian tournaments that District Five has hosted. Mary Jane has still continued her active involvement in little league and shows no signs of letting up.
Windsor West MP Brian Masse remarked that volunteering is at the heart of organizations like little league and without dedicated people there would be no little league.
According to District Administrator Jim Tremblay, both recipients of the award are more than deserving.
“Both George and Mary Jane have been volunteering for over 25 years and have helped little league continue to prosper in this District.”
