Early season notes
The 2005 fastball season is in its early stages but already some master's teams and players are making some noise .......
Ontario Masters # 5 ranked Waterloo Classics won the annual May 2-4 Blast Masters tournament at Hillside Park in Waterloo. This result came as no surprise as the Classics have pretty well owned this tournament and have won it all 4 years since the Blast added the masters division. The Classics went 3-1 in round robin action with their only loss coming at the hands of the Mitchell Mets Masters. The Classics earned a little revenge by defeating Mitchell 5-2 in the championship. Waterloo's ace lefty, Don Stebbings was 3-0 with Pete Spizig and Sean Geehan picking up the other wins for the Classics. Mitchell had a fine tournament and picked up wins over Waterloo and Ontario Masters # 6 ranked Oshawa Ravens.

Masters pitchers, Rick Hames and Harold Passmore of the Toronto Angels Masters led their club team the Waterdown Alexander Keith's to the championship of the Millgrove early bird tournament. The Keith's won the tournament defeating the Durham Eagles 9-3 in the final. The Eagles boast a roster of Tracy Woolridge, Ryan Swift, Jason Dorrington, Fred Clyke etc. The MVP of the final game was Keith's catcher Carl "Boomer" Boomhouwer who went 3/4 with 2 doubles and 5 rbi. Boomer will be playing masters ball with the Ontario Masters # 7 ranked Waterdown Hammer for 2005 and previously played with the Stoney Creek Gators.
Wayne Wells and Mike Crawford were up to their old tricks baffling hitters at the Kingston Victoria Day Tournament. Wayne and Mike were pitching for the newly formed Bracebridge Dura Pros which was an amalgamation of the Peterborough Ricart Pros and Bracebridge Dura Automotive. Wayne and Mike both play for the Ontario Masters # 2 ranked Colborne Rutherflo Masters who are the reigning Canadian Masters Champions and runner - up at the 2004 Ontario Masters Championships.

Pitcher Dan Duemo steps up to senior level and is holding his own and then some. Danny "D" pitched for the Stoney Creek Gators at the 2004 Canadian Masters Championship and helped lead the Gators to the silver medal and also picked up 2nd Team All Canadian honours. Dan and the Niagara Snappers are a new entry into the Schneiders ISC Alliance and currently hold a record of 4-2. The 41 year old Duemo has a perfect 3-0 record.
Ontario Masters # 3 ranked Palermo Athletics competed at the May 2-4 Blast in the 12 team intermediate division and came away tied for 3rd. Palermo picked up wins over Linwood Chiefs, Norwich Razorbacks and East York. Palermo is also ranked 5th in Ontario and 14th in North America at the ISC II level. Palermo's masters roster will be slightly different then their regular roster but it will be a very good masters team.
