With 27 sports open to sports enthusiasts throughout the world, the World Masters Games are the largest sport festival on earth. The Opening Ceremonies will be a kaleidoscope of colour and culture. With 16,000 plus athletes leading the way, this production will dazzle the crowd with a pageantry of multicultural creations, aerial displays, pyrotechnics, and athletic prowess! Thousands of talented local volunteers will add to the spectacle, once again creating the amazing atmosphere the "City of Champions" is known for!
BEING THERE - A WORLD MASTERS GAMES COMPETITOR SETS THE SCENE FROM 2002 WORLD MASTERS GAMES IN AUSTRALIA
The athletes were chanting and raising their hands. There were nearly 25,000 of us who were ready
to compete in the 2002 World Masters Games, marching in procession. An additional 25,000 spectators
watched from the stands as the torch for the 2002 Melbourne World Masters Games was lit to open the
largest multi-sport event ever. I was dwarfed by the scale but very much a part of the happening.
A world master that is what I was.
