ORSA Travel Defined
There are two types of ORSA traveling teams. The first type of team plays in the Central Pennsylvania Youth Soccer League (CPYSL). The second type is a modified travel team, which will play in the SOLD (Swatara, ORSA, and Lower Dauphin) league. Tryouts are a requirement for both programs.
CPYSL Travel Program
COMPETITIVE Age Groups, U9 thru U-19
Two competitive divisions with Division 1 being the most competitive.
Eight game fall season with normally four home games and four away games.
League games are normally played on Saturday but Sunday afternoon games are a
possibility, especially for older aged (U15 and above) teams.
Away games are normally within a 30 minute ride of Middletown but can be up to an
hour or more away depending on the teams in the league.
Practices are usually held 2 nights per week for 1 to 2 hours.
Coaches are encouraged to take their teams to Tournaments with the most popular
tournaments played in late August and on Columbus Weekend. There are extra costs
for these activities.
Coaches are also encouraged to register their teams for either Spring league play
or play in one or two Spring tournaments. There are extra costs for these
activities.
SOLD Program
Intramural Age Groups, U-11 thru U-16
Games are played 8 vs. 8 on smaller fields.
Emphasis should be placed upon basics rather than competition.
Eight game fall season, normally four home and four away. Away games are
normally within a 30 minute ride of Middletown. Games are on Saturdays.
There is also a season ending SOLD festival in early November.
PLEASE NOTE: PLAYERS MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN BOTH THE SOLD PROGRAM AND THE CPYSL PROGRAM.
Tryouts for both programs will consist of small-sided games and scrimmages. Our goal is to evaluate the players ball skills (dribbling, collecting, passing), field skills (movement, communication) and athletic ability.
Players are selected for CPYSL Travel and SOLD teams based on tryout scores, past coaches evaluations and player/coach availability. NOTE: PLAYERS NOT ATTENDING A TRYOUT WILL BE PLACED ON A SOLD TEAM ONLY IF THERE ARE OPEN ROSTER SPOTS.

CPYSL Silent Weekend
Olmsted Soccer travel teams play in the Central PA Youth Soccer League. For the past few years, the league has adopted Silent Weekend to honor one of the great pioneers of Central PA youth soccer, Steve Stabinger. All ORSA travel teams are required to abide by this requirement as it is a "league" policy and one that ORSA supports. The goal of silent weekend is to allow the kids to play the game with out the constant noise and distraction coming from the sidelines. This is not just about negative comments and yelling it is also about the comments that may be thought as positive. A copy of a recent notice from the CPYSL director of coaching is noted below. "The CPYSL league has deemed the weekend of Saturday October 4 and Sunday October 5 , 2008 as a silent weekend. Each year this will take place on the weekend prior to Columbus Day for all teams registered in CPYSL.
We are asking all spectators to remain quiet (Clapping, Cow Bells, Horns, are all allowed during the soccer games). Coaches are allowed to correct as needed, but are being asked to allow players to play and discover how to play the game without direction. This has been adopted by the league as a policy, any team, coach, or club spectators who is reported for violation of this policy will be fined by the league. Please inform all parents of this date and explain the purpose of why we honor the momeory of Steve on this day and what is expected of them at the game. Lollipops have been provided to help in this request."
