ORSA Mandatory Fundraiser 2009
ORSA will be continue its mandatory fundraiser for 2009. The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise funds to allow Olmsted Soccer to assist the Lower Swatara Township in paying for the park that will house the new Olmsted Soccer Fields. This park will be located near the new Middletown Middle School. The fundraiser for 2009 will be a subsale. Families will be asked to sell 20 subs (or pay a $20 opt out fee) to meet the mandatory goal per family. More information is in the attached handout and also at soccer registration.
This project is extremely important to ORSA as we move closer to having a new soccer complex that we can call home.

ORSA Levels of Play
The information below gives you a brief description of each ORSA soccer program. More information can be obtained from the appropriate ORSA Commissioner.
U-6 Intramural - this age group is strictly non-competitive with normally one or two scheduled practices per week and games on Saturdays. This program allows the kids to have fun and learn some very basic skills, while introducing parents and new coaches to the game of soccer.
U-8/U-10 Intramural - this program is designed to begin teaching players basic soccer skills. Dribbling, passing, shooting and basic team play are introduced. Practices are 2 nights per week, with Saturday games played against other ORSA teams and teams from local clubs, such as Swatara and Lower Dauphin. Some games are played at Swatara and Lower Dauphin fields.
U-11 through U16 S.O.L.D. - this is an intramural program with teams from ORSA, Swatara and Lower Dauphin. Play is on a smaller field (as compared to CPYSL travel) and is played with 8 players on the field instead of 11. Practices are normally 2 nights per week, with games played on Saturdays. Some games are played at Swatara and Lower Dauphin fields.
Competitive Travel - this program is part of the Central Pennsylvania Youth Soccer League (CPYSL) and includes three different levels of competitive play, with Division I being the most competitive. Age group teams are as young as U-9 and as old as U-19, depending upon the number of players interested in each age group. U-9/U-10 age groups play 8 v 8 on a smaller field, while all other age groups play 11 v 11 on a larger field. Players are selected for teams based on tryout scores, past coaches’ evaluations and player/coach availability. Please note that there is no guarantee that a player signing up and trying out for a competitive travel team will actually make a travel team! Players not making a travel team will be placed on an intramural or S.O.L.D. team if available.
It is important to note that Competitive Travel does not mean that teams must travel great distances to all games. Teams generally are scheduled for 4 home games and 4 away games during the season. The away games could be games on the East or West Shore of the Harrisburg area, but may be as far away as Gettysburg or Chambersburg. Most teams play 2 or 3 away games that are within 30 minutes of Middletown, while the remaining away game may be up to 1 hour away. Teams may also opt to enter tournments during the season but these are usually up to the discretion of the teams coach. There are many events in the Harrisburg area that allow for minimal travel to compete in tournaments.

ORSA Field Fee
In 2003, ORSA implemented a field fund to plan for the future field needs of the organization. This plan was proposed and voted on at the Feburary 2003 ORSA Board Meeting. Reality hit us as we were informed by the First Catholic Slovak Union, owners of Jednota Estates, that ORSA will no longer be able to use the facility for soccer. Although a firm date has not been set, we expect that 2009 could be our last season at Jednota.
The Lower Swatara Township Government has purchased land to be used as a park in the Township and will also host several soccer fields for our organization. As a result, ORSA will continue to utilize a field fund, thus a $10 per player field fee, for 2009. This fund will be earmarked for the new soccer complex in support of the Township.
As always, you are welcome to attend any ORSA board meeting to learn more about the club and its activities. We also welcome any volunteers who have corporate/business fundraising knowledge and who could head a fundraising committee for ORSA. Interested parties can contact me at 944-0418 or cruyf@aol.com
