Unlike most other sports, swim and dive teams cannot run without parent participation. You will be expected to help out at any swim or dive meet in which your child is participating. There are many ways to volunteer - before, during and after meets and events. We can find jobs that work for your talents, interests and time limitations. As part of joining OGC Swim or Dive teams, each family is required to earn a minimum of 40 points per team joined and again are expected to volunteer at any swim or dive meet in which your child is participating. Only meet officials (Referee, Stroke & Turn, Dive Judge, Starter) require certification. All other jobs provide on-the-job training. You will be notified via email when volunteer sign ups are available prior to each meet/event. Volunteer hours will be tracked, and families who do not meet volunteer requirements will be charged a $250 fee per child at the end of the season. Chair a committee or event and earn your 40 points all at once! (Currently seeking: Community Service and Concessions Chairs - email a Rep for details)

If a child cannot swim the length of the pool (25M) freestyle and backstroke and is 8 years old or younger, then he/she may be eligible for pre-team. Children must be evaluated prior to placement on the pre-team. They need to be able to swim the width of the diving well using a freestyle stroke with their head in the water and be comfortable floating/swimming on their back without a parent in the pool.
Pre-team evaluations will be held 3:30-4:00 pm on Monday June 18th and Tuesday June 19th, at the diving well.
Parents need to sign children up for a specific evaluation time slot. Sign up sheets are kept at the pool guard house. Select one time slot for your child to be evaluated by coaches. Be sure to include ALL requested information, especially email address as all pre-team information will be sent via email. After all of the evaluations are completed, parents will be notified whether or not their child makes it onto the pre-team via email.
Do not register your potential pre-teamer for the swim team until after he/she has been placed on the pre-team.
Pre-team practices will be held from Thursday, June 21 and end Thursday, July 19. Accepted swimmers need to commit to one of two practice times for the summer: morning 11:30-12 or afternoon (3:30-4) for the entire season. The morning session will practice Monday-Friday. The 3:30 session will practice on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Pre-team is a developmental group; pre-teamers do not swim in all meets. The goal of pre-team is to have the athletes swimming at least one legal stroke by the last weeks of the season so that they can participate a meet/s. We will keep parents informed about swimmers' participation in meet/s. Some pre-teamers get moved into the regular team during the swim season based on their ability, at the coaches' discretion. We will keep parents informed if their swimmer/s are placed on the regular team; there is no other registration or payment involved.
