Oshawa Kicks Raiders '94 Girls: 2005 CESL Season
INAUGURAL SEASON RESULTS

For a first year team the results were not too bad, but much more work and improvement needs to be done to reach our team goal of "EXCELLENCE"... and so the journey continues. The 2005 CESL seaon was the first step of the long journey ahead. Here is a look back at our 2005 CESL Season Schedule/Standings.

Thursday, March 31
CESL UPDATE

The CESL has finally posted the U11 Girls Team Division placement for the upcoming 2005 outdoor season. The Oshawa Kicks Raiders will be competing in the CESL's Division 1 this 2005 outdoor season.

The teams in Division 1 are as follows:

1. Pickering Pythons
2. Ajax Lightning
3. Pickering Wildcats
4. Whitby Thunder
5. Clairlea-Westview
6. West Rouge Storm
7. Whitby Iroquois
8. Wexford Wolverines
9. Kicks Raiders

Details are now also posted on the CESL website, please click here for additional information.

The teams in Division 1 will be promoted to the CGSL in 2006. The question is, who goes to which division in 2006? ONLY THE TOP 4 TEAMS will promote to the "Premeire Division" in 2006, the remaining 5 teams will most likely promote to Division 1.

Last year we hosted 6 teams in the 1994 age division, there were teams from all over Durham & Scarborough that attended and they all had a great time. OSHAWA KICKS 5K RUN FOR CHARITY

"The Oshawa Kicks Raiders '94 Girls ventured to Durham College on Sunday to participate in a 5K run event, held each year in Oshawa in conjunction with the Oshawa Kicks and the Epilepsy Foundation. Mayor John Gray led the countdown to the run and amid ideal running conditions (grey skies and cool, damp temperatures), the girls proceeded to give a great account of themselves in this run. Special mention goes to Chancer who displayed her trademark endurance skills and was the first of all Raiders to cross the finish line. And let's not forget about Claudio and Kevin, who did a fine job "escorting" the girls through the road course. Well done, everyone!"

RAIDERS MAIDEN VOYAGE

"The Oshawa Kicks Raiders 94 Girls got their first taste of tournament play at the Oshawa Kick's Spring Classic event, held at Laval park in Oshawa. How fitting that on Mother's Day weekend, Mother Nature herself delivered an absolutely splendid weekend of superb weather. The conditions could not have been better, given all the rain experienced over the past few weeks.

The Raiders gave a very respectable account of themselves in this tourney. They opened with a 2-0 victory over the Etobicoke Titans. In this match, the Raiders relied on the assertive netminding of Mac along with the offensive touch of Kondas. The next match saw the Raiders square off against Clairlea Westview, who jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead early in the match. The Raiders would fight back however, and got two equalizing goals from Speedy, and then pressed for a winning strike that was not to be. Final score: Raiders 2 - Clairlea Westview 2. On Sunday, the opposition was a new look Darlington Attack, who showed great pride in playing the role of spoiler. The Attack were able to thwart all attempts by the Raiders to get onto the scoresheet, and scored a highlight-reel goal themselves in the 2nd half to take the contest 1-0, thereby eliminating the Raiders from further contention.

The tournament allowed the girls an ideal opportunity to experience 9 v 9 game conditions, and more importantly allowed the watchful coaches to file some evaluative information into their data vault. Progressions of power must begin somewhere; early foundations can now begin to take form, as the outdoor fields become available to the girls. Valuable lessons await the Raiders as the long journey of development gets underway. And thus the voyage begins...

The Oshawa Kicks Raiders would like to thank all of the participating teams. As well, we would like thank our sponsor Business Depot @ Ritson/Taunton in the Five Points Mail for providing all the teams with onsite photos and also all the other volunteers who made the tournament the successful event that it was. A special mention goes to the Likuski family in this regard. As well, the Raiders wish to offer congratulations to the 2005 Oshawa Kicks Spring Classic U11 Girls champions - the Etobicoke Titans.

Well done ladies!"

TEAM FUNDRAISING FOR QUEBEC TRIP

"The Oshawa Kicks Raiders girls embarked on a fundraising journey which took them to the Oshawa LCBO location at Rossland & Wilson Roads on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. The mission was to generate funds in order to support the girls upcoming tournament at the Laval International Cup, Canada Day weekend, July 1st to 4th. The girls took turns in shifts over the weekend and managed to collect a fair amount of funds from happy LCBO customers, many of whom were eager to support the girls athletic pursuits. The weatherman cooperated for the most part, and the girls enjoyed wearing their Kicks colours in this successful event. Nice job ladies!"

PETERBOROUGH CHALLENGE CUP TOURNAMENT

Since inception in 1990, the Challenge Cup has been a regular stop for many of Ontario's top club teams. Indeed, The tournament has grown substantially each year. The key factors that keep teams coming back are easily identified: outstanding facilities & fields situated in a beautiful beachfront park, a chance for the whole family to get away to cottage country, on-site camping, the charm of Peterborough, and, of course, a quality soccer event. The 2005 tournament expects to be the best Challenge Weekend yet. Apply Today!

This is our second tournament of the season and it's the first time we have entered this venue as we are a new team. Last year the Ajax Lightning team earned the top spot in the 1994 age group. It should be interesting to see which team will earn the 2005 title. On behalf of the Oshawa Kicks Raiders... "Good Luck to all the teams that have entered!".

PETERBOROUGH CHALLENGE CUP FINALISTS

"The Oshawa Kicks Raiders travelled to Peterborough on the weekend for their first 'out-of-town' tournament, at the 25th edition of the Peterborough Challenge Cup, hosted by the Peterborough City Soccer Association (PCSA). The Raiders took the field in earnest, as the opening match was played against the host Peterborough City First team. The Raiders fired on all fronts in this match, coming away with a 5-1 victory. The Raiders were in tough in their second match, as they encountered the 2004 Tournament Champion Ajax Lightning. This game was a very exciting tilt, and it concluded in a 2-2 draw. Game 3 saw the Raiders match up against the Pickering Power Wildcats, and the Raiders emerged from this exciting match with a 3-1 victory, pushing them through to the Championship Final. In the Championship match, the opposition was once again the Wildcats from Pickering, but the result would not mirror the initial meeting between these teams. Though the Raiders brought a potent mix of offensive arsenal to this match, the Wildcats were up to the challenge, forcing the Raiders to settle for a Silver medal via a 1-0 final, in favour of the Wildcats.

This was a very entertaining and rewarding weekend, and the Raiders once again gained valuable lessons in their ongoing journey of improvement. The Raiders wish to offer a heartfelt "congratulations" to the 2005 Wildcat Champions, along with a big "Thank You" to the PCSA tournament organizing committee. The Raiders look forward to competing in the 2006 edition of the Peterborough Challenge Cup. See you in Peterborough next year!

Well done ladies!"

THE 2005 CESL LEAGUE CAMPAIGN BEGINS

"The Oshawa Kicks Raiders played its first CESL Regular Season match on Wednesday. It was a successful debut, as they girls walked off the field with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Wexford Wolverines. The Raiders opened the match in a tentative fashion, allowing the Wolverines to dictate much of the play. After falling behind 1-0 the Raiders began to carry some of the play. However, the Raiders were fortunate to come away with this victory in that they appeared to play more of a reactive brand of soccer as opposed to a proactive style. It is rare indeed when a team manages to win the war when it has lost many of the battles. Sound technical grounding is one of the reasons the Raiders were able to rally from behind for this victory. Two more reasons were the very solid netminding of Mac and the offensive touch of MareBare.

The Raiders now have a regular season match under their belt, and it is always nice to kick off the season with a victory. The Raiders look forward to their home opener next week, as the Clairlea Westview team makes a visit to Laval Field. Great start to the season ladies, it was a very entertaining match to witness!"

RAIDERS PREVAIL IN HOME OPENER

"The Oshawa Kicks Raiders played their CESL home opener last night against the Clairlea Westview team. It was a tightly played encounter, many blocked shots throughout the match and some nice plays made by both sides. Clairlea opened the scoring, however their lead was short-lived. The Raiders countered with two markers before halftime, both delivered with great placement precision by Razor.

The second half was scoreless, despite great chances at both ends. The Raiders, perhaps guided by the hand of fate, came out on top in this match, despite a mounting list of walking wounded. Continued resiliency and patience will see the girls through until Speedy, Angel, and L-Vee get back.

Good effort, nice result ladies!"

INJURY PLAGUED RAIDERS GET THE JOB DONE

"The Raiders latest outing saw them in Whitby on another of the smaller pitches in the CESL 9v9 circuit. On certain nights when teams are not defensively focused, these shorter fields lend themselves to high scoring affairs. Such was the case on Wednesday, as the Raiders and Thunder engaged in what could be termed "firewagon" football, at times with a rather carefree approach to the finer points of the game. Be that as it may, the Raiders were able to prevail in this shootout, and notched a third consecutive victory in the young CESL season. Leading the way on this night, with an impressive arsenal of offence was Razor.

The Raiders, despite missing three players due to injury, pressed early and often in this match, and at times displayed some of the techniques that they have been learning in their ongoing training sessions. As mentioned above, the season is still very young and there are many challenges awaiting the girls in the days and weeks ahead. Refinement of these techniques and continuous learning under Coach John and Coach Lance will prepare the girls well for what lies ahead. The foundation is still being laid, and the foundation appears to be a very solid base from which to build.

Good effort girls, the injured mates are eager to return, and together the team will continue its pursuit of excellence."

RAIDERS SCRATCH OUT FOURTH VICTORY

"The Oshawa Kicks Raiders 94 Girls met up with a familiar foe tonight at Laval Field. The Pickering Power Wildcats proved to once again be a very worthy opponent in a tightly played contest that was very entertaining for all in attendance. The match was a see-saw battle, where the slightest of margins could make a difference in the outcome. In close encounters such as this, an ill-timed foul can swing the pendulum either way. Indeed, three goals tonight were the result of a free kick awarded by the match official. The Raiders were the fortunate recipients of two such calls by the official, and wisely took advantage of these opportunities to gain a 3-2 victory over the Wildcats.   Call it the Razor's Edge...

The margin of victory was slim, as both teams played hard in the relentless heat. Signs of the technique and discipline taught to the girls continue to be evident, and as always the Raiders will take some valuable lessons learned from today's match. While acknowledging that all matches are won and lost as a team, the Scribe's "Raiders of The Match" will be posted on a regular basis going forward, to help fill the void for those of us who have been deprived of the weekly three star selections on Hockey Night in Canada. On this night, the Scribe's Raiders of The Match were.....Foxey, Angel and Stitch. Well done girls!"

RAIDERS WINNING STREAK COMES TO AN END

"The Kicks Raiders visited the West Rouge Storm in their most recent outing, on yet another warm and muggy night. Both teams came out somewhat tentative, perhaps the Raiders more so than the Storm. The Storm opened the scoring off a splendid header, and seemed to have more of a hunger for carrying the play. However, the Raiders would fight back and eventually take a 2-1 lead into the second half, thanks to a pair of timely goals from Foxey.

The second half featured nice plays and hard work from both sides, testament to the growing skills and tactics possessed by each of the teams. Just when it appeared that the 2-1 lead would stand for the Raiders, the Storm managed a last-minute goal to square the contest at 2-2, which would be the final score. The first draw for the Raiders and the third for the Storm. Parity is alive and well in the competitive Division 1 of the GU11 CESL loop.

The Scribe's Raiders of The Match were Mac, Stitch and Foxey. Onto Laval, and a date with some of the GU12 teams from La Belle Province…"

LAVAL INTERNATIONAL CUP FINALISTS

On Canada's 138th birthday weekend the Oshawa Kicks Raiders ventured almost 600 km to Laval Quebec for the 19th annual Laval International Soccer Cup. There were no high expectations as the Raiders were undermanned, under aged & having two players that had just recently returned into the lineup from injury. When Coach John was asked before the tournament "What are we going to do, we have no subs... we are playing 11 a side with only 11 players?" he replied "We'll just have to make do and play our game the best we can...". The Raiders were the true underdogs of the under 12 girls A division, the funny thing is that someone forgot to inform the Raiders players of that fact!

In the Raiders opening match they faced the Dragons de Drummondville team. The Raiders came to the showdown with guns a blazing, potting their first of 5 goals in the first minute of the game. Sound technical play in the midfield, beautiful defensive teamwork and some brilliant netminding, held the persistent Drummondville strikers to only 1 goal. In Raiders second match they showed a lot grit & determination as they played their most physical opponents of the tournament, the Monteuil Twisters. The Raiders came out the victors of this hard fought battle, 1-0 on this day. The following day saw the Raiders play their last game in group "B" of the round robin against the Les Rebelles de Terrebonne, a very skilled & worthy adversary. Under the blazing hot sun, the Raiders started on the attack quickly again by scoring their first of 3 goals in the opening minute of the match. A brilliant defensive team performance kept the Terrebonne team off the scoreboard, which intern vaulted the Raiders into the finals against the Darlington Dynamite. The finals saw the only 2 teams from Ontario in the U12 girls "A" division go head to head. In the final game, exhaustion crept in on the Raiders and they had trouble keeping up with the talented and vibrant Dynamite team. Mentally the girls wouldn't give up and use every last bit of energy they could conjure up to hold off the Darlington attack to only a couple goals. A special kudos goes out to Mac for the brilliant goalkeeping throughout the tournament and especially in the final, she kept us in all our games! In the end Darlington came away with the victory 2-0.

Overall the Laval tournament was a huge success and a wonderful experience for the Raiders team, the entire team came together and created bond that will be hard to break apart. The girls showed a lot of character with an abundance of heart, determination, skill, team spirit and some of the most gutsiest & entertaining performances of the tournament. The Coaches & parents are very proud of each and every player on the team, but our work is not yet finish, we still have much to do as we continuously strive for excellence. The Raiders would also like to offer our congratulations to the Darlington Dynamite girls team for winning the U12 "A" division, you've earned it and are well deserving of the title "champions"! A big thank you also goes out to the organizers & volunteers of the Laval International Cup, they hosted an outstanding tournament and we will see you again next year!

Again well done ladies, you've made us very proud!

RAIDERS ADVANCE IN CESL CUP QUALIFYING

"The Oshawa Kicks Raiders 94G team advanced last night in its initial CESL Cup qualifying match, with a 5-1 victory over the Oshawa Kicks Red Devils team at Laval field. The victory by the Raiders followed its initial CESL regular season loss at the hands of the Ajax Lightning, a 2-1 game that both CyberCam and yours truly (the Scribe) were both absent for.   As expected, the Lightning are and will be a force to be reckoned with in the CESL Division 1 loop.

In the Cup Qualifier, the Raiders played a relatively cautious match, and capitalized on most of the scoring chances they generated. Razor supplied 3 first-half markers, with singles later going to Foxey and Spanky. The netminding was very capably shared between Mac and Angel, and perhaps best of all, Speedy contributed significant minutes in the match and is showing all the signs of being her old self once again. Welcome back, Speedy! The Scribe's Raiders of The Match were Razor, Spanky and MareBear. The girls on both sides worked hard in the relentless heat and it was nice to see the Kicks 94G sister team in action on our common home field. Good luck to both teams in the weeks ahead…"

RAIDERS PREVAIL IN WHITBY

"The Raiders latest encounter was at Divine Field with the Whitby Iroquois 94G squad, who had previously defeated the Raiders in a springtime friendly. Not surprisingly, the contest started out fairly evenly, with the Raiders having more of the very few scoring chances in the first half. Nonetheless, it remained scoreless at the half. In the second half, some positional re-alignment by the ever-observant Raider coaches paid immediate dividends, with the Raiders striking in the first minute of play. The Raiders used this momentum to notch two more second-half goals to come away with a 3-0 victory. Good effort by both teams, who eventually managed to adjust to the extremely arid conditions and the resultant rock-hard playing surface. The Scribe's Raiders of The Match were MareBear, L-Vee and Rocky."

RAIDERS BATTLE FOR TOP SPOT

"The Kicks Raiders met up last night with the only CESL Division 1 team that they had not yet encountered - the Pickering Power Pythons. It was a match between two of the Division 1 frontrunners, with a number of onlookers there to witness it. Ironically, there were a number of former team-mates from years gone by taking part in the match, creating a series of sub-plots that went along with the match itself.

The first half featured good play at both ends, with the Pythons holding the territorial advantage, forcing the Raiders keeper to be at her best. The Pythons got the only goal of the half, on what appeared to be a set piece off a splendid throw-in, leaving the match at 1-0 heading into the second half. In the second half, the Raiders were not on top of their game, at times appearing to concede the match to their opponent. The Pythons were quite willing to take charge of the match, relying on their skill, experience and depth to march off with a convincing 5-0 victory. This match, if nothing else provided a good benchmark for the Raiders, and can be used as a reference point for future development. An opportunity to see 'where the bar lies' can be a great educational tool, and the Raiders will wisely heed this lesson going forward. The Scribe's Raiders of The Match were Kiwi, Stitch and L-Vee.

This match completes the first pass for the Raiders through the CESL Division 1 group. They now head into the second half of the schedule having seen each team once. In terms of the big picture, the girls have done quite well in the early stages of their 94G program.   The second half will allow for more game conditions, development opportunities and fitness training, all under the watchful eye of John & Lance."

RAIDERS BATTLE HARD IN SCORELESS TIE

"The Raiders hosted the Wexford Wolverines on a night that was void of the extreme heat and humidity experienced of late. While the cooler temperatures were welcomed, they did not necessarily translate into a more energized performance from the two teams on the pitch. That said, it was an entertaining and eventful match - it just lacked the scoring prowess that we've come to expect from these teams. The match was fairly evenly played, indicative of the general parity that exists in Division 1. However, the offensive creativity and drive that is required to engineer (and capitalize on) scoring chances was, for the most part missing in this match - testimony to the good effort put forth by the keepers and defenders.   This wasn't the first scoreless draw seen in the CESL this year and it won't be the last.

The Raiders will seek to end their recent scoring drought next week when they take on the talented Clairlea Westview squad. The Scribe's Raiders of The Match in this contest were Angel, Spunky and Mac. Good work ladies"

RAIDERS BACK ON TRACK

"The Raides travel to Scarborough for their second league match against Clairalea Westview. The last time these two teams met it was a very tight physical game which ended with the Raiders edging out Clairalea 2-1. The weather was again very hot & humid, as we've come to expect for this has been the norm throughout the summer months and not the most idea game conditions for any player stepping onto the pitch.

From the opening kick-off the match seems like it was being played in slow motion and both teams looked as if their batteries were only half charged. It was a back & forth affair until 2 well placed dead ball skrikes found their way behind the Clairalea keeper. In the second half the Raiders looked more energized and displayed a bit more passion as they picked up their play, taking more control over the match with some great ball movement. Some keen vision, a few well placed passes and the Raiders were able to drive the rock home several more times in the half. The unfortunate problem Clairalea was facing was that they had no bench on this day and the team's gas tank was depleting rapidly.

It was nice to see the team taking initiative and starting to regain their form they had once had earlier in the season and also retaining their much needed scoring touch as well. In honor of the absent "Scribe", we will continue in the spirit of the "Scribes Raiders of the Match" by selecting Mac, Razor & Foxey. Great work ladies, for a job well done!"

RAIDERS THUNDER-STRUCK

"The Raiders met up with the Whitby Thunder twice this week, and based on the outcome of these matches it would seem that the Raiders are happy to have seen the last of this much-improved team. The initial meeting on Monday was a CESL Cup qualifier, and was a see-saw type of match, ending in a 2-2 draw at regulation time. Cup matches cannot end in a draw, and as such two overtime sessions were played, and the score was still 2-2 following overtime. As such, the next order of business was the dreaded shoot-out, which is when a winner was finally determined (as darkness crept into the proceedings).   Whitby will now meet up with the Pythons in the next round of Cup play. The Scribe's Raiders of the Match on Monday were Razor, Stitch and Chombie.

Ironically enough, Whitby Thunder was once again the opponent in the regular season match this week, pitting these two sides against one another for a second time in three days. Neither side brought their A game on this night, as the Thunder were content to repeatedly dish the ball out of bounds and the Raiders failed to capitalize on the resultant throw-ins and corner kicks.   Desire has much to do with success - the Raiders will control much of their own destiny based on how they apply this desire from here on in. The Scribe's Raiders of The Match for Wednesday were Spunky, Speedy and Angel."

RAIDERS FIT TO BE TIED

"The Kicks Raiders initial visit to Kinsmen field in Pickering took place this week, and the girls on both teams left the field just the way they found it: 0-0. This CESL match pitted the Raiders against the Wildcats in a game that lacked overall intensity at first, with the Raiders appearing more listless than their opponent. Not surprisingly then, the Wildcats carried the play for the much of the first half, only to be thwarted by Mac whenever they got within striking range.   In the second half, perhaps realizing what was on the line, the Raiders came to play. In what was essentially a reversal of the first half, the Wildcats allowed the Raiders to assume the driver's seat, and the fine play of the Wildcat keeper mirrored that of her counterpart in the first half. In the end, both teams had to settle for a draw, making the CESL race that much more interesting heading down the stretch. Raiders of the Match on this day were Chombie, Mac and Foxey. The girls maintain the opportunity to control their own destiny and as such the inaugural Raider season promises to deliver an intriguing and entertaining conclusion - to the very end..."

RAIDERS DRAW ONCE AGAIN

"The West Rouge Storm were the latest opponent for the Kicks Raiders, in a game that featured two of the top four teams in the CESL Division 1 loop. In this match, the Raiders began the match playing an intense style, unlike recent matches, and were rewarded early for their efforts, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. The Storm were not to be outdone however, and managed a goal via a penalty in the dying minutes of the half. In the second half, both sides pressed for another goal, but it would be the Storm who notched the only goal of the half, making the final 2-2, as was the case when these teams met previously in West Rouge. Clearly these teams are evenly matched and on par with one another. The Raiders of the match in this encounter were Razor, Rocky and L-Vee. Next up are the Ajax Lightning, in yet another duel between two of the top four CESL teams in Division 1."

RAIDERS WIN IN AJAX

"The Oshawa Kicks Raiders paid their first visit to Ajax this season, and it was a match-up between a couple of very solid teams. The Ajax Lightning were 1 point ahead of the Raiders in the CESL standings, signifying the parity that exists between the teams. The Lightning prevailed 2-1 over the Raiders in their only previous CESL encounter, and have also had some very impressive showings in recent weeks. The Raiders meanwhile, had hit a bit of a flat spot in recent outings. Nonetheless, it was a clean slate for both sides on this night, and a good match was anticipated. The Raiders broke out on top in the first half (ironically on a goal scored by their only Ajax native), and carried a 1-0 lead into the 2nd half. Another goal by the Raiders midway through the second half sealed the victory - a 2-0 final for Oshawa.   The talent and determination was evident on both sides in this match, and the Raiders were fortunate to come out on top. Indeed, it was a very exciting match between two fine squads. The Scribe's Raiders of the Match were Speedy, Mac and MareBare."

RAIDERS TIE ANOTHER ONE ON…

The Kicks Raiders returned to the confines (friendly or otherwise) of Laval Park on Wednesday for an important CESL match-up with the Whitby Iroquois - a tough opponent with a good work ethic. The conditions were ideal and the match went fairly evenly for the most part. Neither side totally dominated and the scribe sensed that neither side was playing its best game to date this year. The Raiders opened the scoring after some close calls, and almost rode their 1-0 lead to victory. However, the Iroquois mustered up a late 2nd half goal to knot the match at 1's. Though the Kicks would press for a winner, it was not to be as the Whitby squad shut the door and ended the game in yet another draw for the Raiders. The Raiders of the match in this game were Spanky, Rox and Mac. The CESL season finale comes next against the Pickering Pythons."

RAIDERS INAUGURAL SEASON CONCLUDES WITH VICTORY

"The Oshawa Kicks Raiders initial outdoor CESL season concluded this week in grand fashion. In the span of eight short months, this team has already begun to develop a solid foundation that will undoubtedly see the girls go forward to new heights in the coming years.   At the root of this foundation is the team Head Coach - John Djokoto and the Assistant Coach - Lance Hart. These men have already forged the trails that lie ahead for the Raiders. They know what to expect and they know what it takes to succeed in CGSL and OYSL levels of competition. They have done a remarkable job in 2005 YTD with a relatively inexperienced group of players. Indeed, the future looks bright for the Raiders with these fine men at the helm. In terms of the big picture, it is merely the end of the beginning...

The CESL season finale this week was yet another litmus test as the Raiders were up against one the most successful 1994 teams in the province - the Pickering Power Pythons. The Raiders had not given a very good account of themselves in the only prior meeting between these two teams, won rather decisively by Pickering. Finally, there was the uncertainty of advancement to CGSL Premier Division in 2006 as the Raiders found themselves in a tight divisional race that would ultimately determine where they would compete next season. The task was daunting, but the Raiders were up for it. Not even the unfavourable playing conditions (constant rain followed by extreme darkness) would deter them from their purpose. As expected, the Raiders and the Pythons played a very entertaining and spirited match in their respective season finale. Both teams wanted this match and played hard to the very end, but out of the darkness came a 1-0 victory for the Raiders, securing a birth in the CGSL Premier Division for 2006. The Scribe's Raiders of This Match were...MareBare, Razor, Mac, Foxey, Kiwi, Speedy, Stitch, Chombie, Spunky, L-Vee, Rox, Rocky, and Angel. A total team effort was the ideal way to cap off the inaugural season, and this is precisely what the Raider girls delivered.   It is always nice to go out a winner, and the Raiders did just that.   Bravo to the Oshawa Kicks Raider girls!

In addition to the aforementioned Mr. Djokoto and Mr. Hart, the 2005 Raider team staff must be acknowledged and commended for the splendid job of overall team operations. We are grateful for the outstanding efforts of Manager Kathy Grammenopoulos, Treasurer Carla Carmichael, Webmaster Kevin Adaniel and Trainer Margaret Adaniel. All of the fine Raider parents are to be commended as well for their dedication and commitment to activities such as the fundraising, the car-pooling, the goal nets, the countless and ever-sustaining Tim Horton runs, the watching over the 'future-star' siblings, etc."

A notable quote regarding the game and outdoor season;
"Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives."
