 10/23-24/2010 16u Ronald McDonald Showcase – Houston, TX

Tulsa Fire 2, Texas Magic 9         Rough start for the Fire in the opener as the Magic seemed to get all the breaks and several defensive lapses lead to the Magic scoring. Fire had trouble solving the magician in the circle for the Magic as she wasn’t bringing the heat like the players faced in the regionals and state playoffs. Britney Johnson singled in the third and Hannah Stirton and Sam Forrest lead off the 4th with singles followed by an RBI single by Allie Alvstad and RBI SAC Fly by Elena Gambill. Britney started with relief help from Taylor Koelsch. 

Tulsa Fire 6, Austin Storm 3The Fire bounced back from the first game paced by an RBI Triple by Allie Alvstad that scored Hannah Stirton who doubled. Morgan Wilson 2 RBI single scored Elena Gambill and Britney Johnson who reached by singles in the 2nd. Taylor Koelsch and Alissa Taylor also had RBI’s in the inning. The Fire collected 5 more hits but no more runs after the 2nd but the 6 runs held up due to the pitching of Sam Forrest and Alissa Taylor. Sam had three K’s and only one of the 3 surrendered hits left the infield. Storm scored on two well-placed bunts. Alissa Taylor, Elena, and Hannah each had two hits in the game. 

Tulsa Fire 1, Texas Blaze 2Sam Forrest went 2-3 including an RBI Double in the first down the left field line to score Britney Johnson who led off the game with a hit. Fire could not push across another run despite a leadoff triple in the third by Amy Gunnells. Taylor Rodgers, Kate Myers, Alissa Taylor and Sam contribute singles in the game. Alissa got the start with relief help from Britney. 

Tulsa Fire 1, Texas Sudden Impact 2The last game of the day Saturday was another pitcher’s duel with the game tied 1-1 until the last inning. Fire scored in the second on a leadoff single by Allie Alvstad and RBI Double by Sam Forrest. Taylor Koelsch was 2-2 at the plate and started for the Fire in the circle giving up a bunt hit in the 1st and two infield singles in the 3rd before Sam took over for the last 3 innings. Sam and Taylor K combined for 5 K’s giving up only one earned run in the 6 innings of work.  

Tulsa Fire 13, Texas Fusion 6Early Sunday morning game proved rough for both pitching staffs as 12 runs crossed the plate in the long first inning. Taylor Koelsch and Britney Johnson overcame the disastrous first to handle the challenge of finding a rhythm working through constant stoppages to dry the softballs. Elena Gambill blasted a 2 RBI Homerun over the LC Fence in the first that also saw two 2 RBI misplayed hits from the bats of Amy Gunnells and Sam Forrest. The seven run 2nd was highlighted by a 2 RBI single by Taylor Rodgers and RBI hits by Allie Alvstad and Sam scoring Kate Myers who singled. Hannah Stirton plated the last run with an RBI Double. 

Tulsa Fire 8, TPS 4Tulsa Fire pounded out 8 hits, 6 of those coming in the final inning highlighted by Hannah Stirton’s bases loaded Triple to the fence in FC. Sam Forrest gets the win with shutdown relief by Alissa Taylor. Britney Johnson had a web gem in right field diving to snag a sharp line drive for the first out in the last inning. Alissa plated the two go-ahead runs with a single that scored Kate Myers and Britney who reached on singles before Hannah’s base clearing heroics scored Morgan Wilson, Alissa, and Taylor Rodgers.
