My Site News: New to Oita Oni? Welcome!

New to Oita Oni? Welcome!
Welcome to season 2003/04!

Over the summer we lost 7 of our star players 쳌Enamely Brad, Peter, Matt, Jayson, David, Shane and Kelly. However, our recruitment manager, Doron Klemer, has been out rounding up some new talent for the season ahead. He justified his hefty salary by securing no less than 25 interested parties. Great job!

So, to all the new recruits, welcome! Feel free to come along and either join in on the field or show your support along the sidelines. As with any team we go out to win every game, but it is a fairly casual group. We love to get as many people at every match, but with people coming from all over the prefecture and having different schedules it’s not always possible. So come out and have a kick when you can, meet some new people, see some new parts of Oita, and join in on the fun. It’s a great way to spend a few hours every couple of weeks. We also have team events including dinners, BBQs, Oita Trinita J-League match outings, and drinking sessions. If you know of anybody else who may be interested in playing or supporting, get them on board too. Feel free to look around the website, and if you have any questions about anything, give Ben a call on 090-7297-6403.

Who is in the team?
The team is primarily made up of foreigners living all over Oita prefecture. A number of Japanese players are also in the squad.

How often do we play?
There are roughly 2 games every month, usually on a Sunday afternoon.

Where do we play?
We plan to mainly play in Beppu City, Oita City and Inukai Town this season. Other places may include Mie, Kuju, Ono, and Hita. A special trip up to Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, will also be on before the end of the year.

What are the pitches like?
We play on grass whenever possible. Once in a while we have no choice but to play on a dirt pitch.

How do you get to the grounds?
Most people either have a car or get a lift with someone who does. Otherwise, if you can get to a train station near the ground, somebody can usually pick you up.

What’s the team uniform?
Soccer boots, shorts, white shirt. There is an official Oita Oni jersey, but it is not a necessity. We can order shirts for new people. If you don’t have boots, there is sometimes a pair floating around. Otherwise, just use sneakers until you buy a pair. Molded studs are the way to go in Japan. Shin guards and long socks are definitely also a good idea.

How much does it cost?
Each player usually needs to chip in around 300yen per played game to cover ground costs etc.

How do I know when a game is on?
You’ll receive an e-mail in the week leading up to a game. This will include all of the details. This website will also have all the details.

Hope to see you out soon!
