Frequently Asked Questions

1) How are individual players placed on teams?

Individuals are placed on teams on a first come first serve basis by age group. Once you have completed your registration, your child is guaranteed a spot on an NFL Flag team.

2) Do you accept team registrations?

No. We don’t want to have “stacked” teams. We will save “team” registrations for our tournament play.

3) How many players are on a team?

There is a minimum of 7 players with a max of 10 players per team.

4) Does the league supply uniforms?

Yes. Each player will receive an authentic NFL Youth Flag Football Jersey and Flag Belt.

5) Who are the officials and are they qualified?

Everyone must remember that the purpose of the games is to make sure that the kids are having fun and not to get overly excited about what an official did or did not do. Our officials are extremely knowledgeable and good at what they do and will call a fair game for both sides. If there are any issues please direct your concerns to the on site field coordinator.

6) How much playing time can my child expect?

Every child will have an equal amount of playing time. We are here to make sure all kids are enjoying themselves AND learning the fundamentals of football along with good sportsmanship and life skills.

7) What types of awards are given?

Every player will receive a participation trophy, certificate of excellence certificate signed by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Super Bowl Trophies to the winning teams in each age division.

8) How do I register?

The NFL requires online registration only. Please click here to begin the registration process.

9) How does the refund policy work (2008 Fall Season)?

After you register, you have until 5:00pm on August 8th to send an email to cecildoggette@gmail.com stating that you would like to withdraw your child from the program. You will be assessed a $30 cancellation fee AND will forfeit your child's flags and jersey. There will be no refunds issued after August 8th.

10) What are the age groups?

The age groups are as follows: (4-6), (7-8), (9-11), (12-14)

*Classifications to the age brackets are subject to change slightly based on the number of registrants in each age bracket.

11) How often do teams practice and are they mandatory?

Teams will practice once a week, 30-60 minutes BEFORE your scheduled game time. Practices are not mandatory but please make every effort to attend as we want your child to enjoy the full experience of our program.

12) How long will games and practices take?

Since we will hold practices and games on the same day, you should estimate being at your location for approximately two hours.

13) What do I get for my registration fee?
  • 11 weeks of flag football and fun!
  • Free football clinic coached by former and current professional and collegiate athletes and coaches
  • Authentic NFL Youth Flag Football Jersey
  • Authentic NFL Youth Flag Football flag and belt
  • Certificate of Excellence certificate signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell
  • Every player receives a participation trophy
  • Super Bowl Trophies to each player on the winning teams in their division.
  • Equal playing time for all kids?
14) Will there be any games on holiday weekends?

No.

15) Will teams play at the same registered locations?

Yes. Whatever location you register at is the location you will play and practice at for the entire season.

16) Is there even playing time for all kids?

Yes. The NFL Youth program promotes participation, fun and the learning of football fundamentals. Coaches are instructed to allocate equal playing time for all kids.

17) How many coaches per team?

Our coaches are parent volunteers. We would like to designate a Head Coach and an Assistant Coach for each team.

18) How much time will be required for volunteer coaches?

We will require you to have one practice (30-60 minutes) before each game. Each game will take approximately 50 minutes. Total time required will be less than 2 hours per week.

19) How long has this league been in Columbus?

The NFL Youth Flag Football League began in 1996. Since it’s inception it has grown tremendously each year since. We here at OYFFA will follow the exact system the NFL uses to run this program. We will have NFL Youth Flag Football inaugural seasons in Pickerington, Groveport and Gahanna in the fall of 2008.

20) When, where and what times are games?

Games will be played at the location you choose during registration. Specific game times will be available in mid August. Currently games will be played in Pickerington (Saturday’s 9am-1pm) Groveport (Saturday’s 9am-1pm) and Gahanna (Sunday’s 1pm-5pm). Again you will only play at the location you choose during the initial registration process.
