Monday, August 11 WOLFPACK BLACK 2007-2008 SCEDULE & RECORD
2007 Stingrays 16-under Champions!! The Ohio Wolfpack Black captured the championship in Columbus, Ohio by going 7-0 against some of the toughest 16-under competition assembled in one place this year! Scores of the games played are shown below: WOLFPACK BLACK 8 Ohio Freeze 1 WOLFPACK BLACK 8 Pitt Power - Becker 5 WOLFPACK BLACK 6 Lasers - Blue -0- WOLFPACK BLACK 2 Lasers - Purple -0- WOLFPACK BLACK 10 Pitt Spirit - Black 2 WOLFPACK BLACK 2 Pitt Spirit - Gold 1 This put the Wolfpack in the championship games against either the Pitt Spirit Gold or the Lady Lasers Blue. The "Spirit" won, setting up what would have been a great championship matchup, but the "Spirit" pulled out of the tournament and headed back to Pittsburgh to get ready for Nationals. Therefore, the Wolfpack Black won the championship game 7-0 via forfeit. All in all, a great effort by the girls. They banged out 50 hits in the six games actually played (5 doubles, 5 triples, & 2 "BOMBS") and outscored their opponents by a margin of 36-9. The defense made a few more errors than the Coaching Staff would have liked, but the pitching was stellar, only allowing 6 earned runs the entire weekend! CONGRATULATIONS, WOLFPACK BLACK!! & GOOD LUCK IN CHICAGO (Sparks Invitational) & ASA NATIONALS IN SIOUX FALLS!!

Sunday, July 30 2006 NSA "A" Nationals - Columbus, Ohio
WOLFPACK BLACK TAKES 2nd AT 2006 STINGRAYS INVITATIONAL The Ohio Wolfpack Black went 7-2 over the weekend of July 14-16, 2006, resulting in a 2nd place finish at one of the toughest 14-under tournaments of the year. The girls went 2-0 in pool play, resulting in a "1" seed. The Wolfpack Black won their 1st two elimination games on Saturday, setting up an 8:00 a.m. game on Sunday against the girls from TEAM INDIANA. The Wolfpack lost (4-7), sending them to the losers' bracket. The girls fought their way through the losers' bracket, making it to the championship game against the Indy Dreams. The girls played hard, but came up a little short, losing 4-5. This was the 2nd 1-run loss of the season against the Dreams.
WOLFPACK BLACK (14-u) WINS ANOTHER 16-under TOURNAMENT!!
The Wolfpack Black put it all together, as they hammered out 69 hits (8 doubles, 1 triple, & 7 homeruns), scoring 68 runs in the seven games played. The defense & pitching gave up only 6 runs , of which 1 run was earned. Great job, ladies!! Unusual to most tournaments, the Lady Spartans awarded MVP trophies in each age division. In the 16-under division, the Ohio Wolfpack Black's Caitlyn Ferrell was named MVP!! For the weekend, Caitlyn hit .571, scored 9 runs, and had 9 RBI's. Caitlyn also "flexed some muscle", hitting 3 round-trippers!! CONGRATULATIONS TO CAITLYN AND THE ENTIRE WOLFPACK TEAM!!
2006 NSA "A" STATE CHAMPIONS !!!
After finishing 2nd place in the 14-under division a year ago, the Ohio Wolfpack Black won the NSA "A" Championship in southern Ohio (Tealtown) over the weekend of June 30th - July 2nd, 2006. This is the second time in three years that this team has won the NSA "A" Championship (the first being the 12-under division in 2004). By combining all aspects of the game (pitching, defense, & hitting), the girls went 5-0 to capture the title! The results of their games are shown below: WOLFPACK BLACK 18 OFCHeat -0- WOLFPACK BLACK 15 WESTERVILLE ICE 2 WOLFPACK BLACK 7 STINGRAYS - COTTRELL -0- WOLFPACK BLACK 6 STINGRAYS - 14'S 5 (This game was tied 2-2 after 7 innings, and went to international tie-breaker. The Wolfpack plated 4 runs in the 8th, but had to hold on, as the Stingrays scored 3 in their half of the frame) CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: WOLFPACK BLACK 8 LASERS GREEN 1 (Congratulations to the Lasers Green. They fought their way through the losers' bracket, by winning 4 games on Sunday, setting up the showdown with the Wolfpack. Truly a gritty performance by this young 14-u team!) Except for a "few blips" in their defense during the Championship Game, The Wolfpack Black had all aspects of their game working this weekend - pitching, defense & hitting. The girls pounded out 49 hits (resulting in 54 runs being scored). Of the 49 hits, 14 went for extra bases (9 doubles, 3 triples, & 2 homeruns)! The overall team batting average for the weekend was .353. The pitching and defense were awesome, as only 3 earned runs (and 8 total) were given up over 5 games. Key strikeouts, plays at the plate, excellent outfield plays, and multiple double-plays being turned, all contributed to some great defense being played that was fun to watch! CONGRATULATIONS, TWO-TIME STATE CHAMPIONS... WOLFPACK BLACK!
WOLFPACK QUALIFIES FOR 2006 ASA NATIONALS!!
Even though the Wolfpack Black qualified for the ASA Nationals, they will not be attending. Plans had already been made to attend the NSA "A" Nationals to be held in Columbus, Ohio, the week before ASA is scheduled. After the Wolfpack Black graciously declined the bid, the Stingrays were offered the opportunity to go, and they happily accepted. GOOD LUCK TO THE STINGRAYS AT ASA NATIONALS!! Congratulations to both teams. The Wolfpack & Stingrays faced each other 4 times during the weekend. Each game was decided late, and could have gone either way. It was a pleasure to watch these two teams play each other. Good luck to both the rest of the 2006 season!!

Wild ThingWolfpack Black Takes 2nd in NSA "A" State Tournament! The Wolfpack Black 14-u team took 2nd place in the NSA "A" State Tournament during the weekend of July 1-3, 2005. They did this by winning their first 4 games of the weekend putting them in the championship game undefeated. Facing an old nemisis, OHIO ICE WHITE, in the championship game proved too much, dropping a 5-1 decision, after giving up 4 runs in the first inning. Overall, an excellent effort by this young 14-u team! Congratulations, Wolfpack!! 2004 NSA "A" Nationals Results
The Ohio Wolfpack Black 12-u captured 1st Place in the "A" Division of the 2004 NSA State Tournament held over the weekend of July 2, 3 & 4th. The tournament was held at Tealtown Park in Cincinnati. This was accomplished by an excellent overall TEAM EFFORT! The girls played with tremendous heart and determination the entire weekend. Starting on Friday with a tough game against the Stingrays-12's (4-0 win) and ending on Sunday with a nail-biter against the Lasers Purple (2-0 win), the Wolfpack Black parlayed great pitching, unbelievable defense, and timely hitting into a memorable weekend. The team only gave up 1 run while scoring 27. Team Members include: Andrea Arney, Allison Peare, Alex Marcantonio, Paige Berger, Caitlyn Ferrell, Brittney Mackey, Marissa Earl, Nikki Bowers, Courtney Nicholson & Ellie Manack. GOOD JOB, GIRLS!! AND CONGRATULATIONS!! |
