The Board of Directors (BOD) invites all friends and family to Odell Rec’s First Annual Chicken Dinner fund-raiser on June 20, 2009. Tickets will be presold for $8 with all orders take-out only. Each ticket entitles you to: 1 baked BBQ ½ chicken, baked beans, homemade slaw, roll, dessert and utensils in a carry-out box. Please indicate at time of purchase if you want lunch or dinner. Lunch pick up will be from 10:30 am – 2:00 pm. Dinner pick up will be from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm, both at the Cox Mill Concession stand.
As everyone should be aware of by now, we have finally moved into our new home behind Cox Mill Elementary. It has been a long journey and we are only half way there. There are many items still needed that we have grown accustom to having at the Odell fields. The BOD recently approved the expenditure of $17,000, which the county matched dollar for dollar, to purchase additional back stops to build 4 more fields, 3 batting cages, which will be going up in the beginning of June, and picnic tables which also will be put together some time in the near future. This has unfortunately left us operating solely on the income from the two concession stands. Please keep in mind that all of this was done while looking towards the future. The big question is how much longer will the Odell fields be available to us? Rather than be reactive, the BOD decided to be proactive and with good reason – our children deserve the best we can offer them. This fund-raiser will allow us to purchase the materials needed to build picnic shelters, roofs for the dugouts and bleachers, air conditioning for the concession stand, more scoreboards for the additional fields, and maintenance equipment for the fields.
We have always felt that Odell Rec was about family and community. We go out of the way to help one another in times of need. Whether it is an untimely death of a family member or an illness that no one should endure at any age, the Odell Rec family has always been there to support each other. The BOD now asks for your support of what we think is a very important time in our association’s life. Please help out by selling the tickets allotted to your child, by purchasing tickets from someone else’s child, or by donating directly to our cause.We look forward to everyone’s kids sharing many good times on and off the field!!
