ocsc: Welcome
Oregon Community Swim Club
The Oregon Community Swim Club is a community based USS Age Group Swim Club
for swimmers ages 6 and up. Using competitive swimming as its vehicle, the motto of the team is fun, fitness,
and personal development through competitive swimming.
The team offers a wide variety of competitive swim options varying from PUPS (an introduction to swim team for beginner swimmers) meeting a total of eight times a session, to our swim team groups meeting three to seven times per week depending on the group level. OCSC began 1991 and the team has established a strong swimming program. In addition to swim practices and meets, non-swimming social activities help develop a sense of team spirit and friendship among team members. Both individual improvement and team effort are encouraged and acknowledged.
Under the direction of our Head Coach Christy Breiby and her assistant
coaches, swimmers practice 3-7 days per week year round with the Fall/Winter season
(mid-September through February), a Stroke Clinic option in April for the
Spring, and the Summer season (June t
hrough July). Younger and novice
swimmers have an option to sign up for half a season to encourage new
swimmers to join and see how they like it! All of our coaches are highly
committed to training OCSC swimmers. We have a hands on philosophy and
encourage in-water training to help develop the swimmers technique.
Swimmers typically practice immediately after school or in the early evening year round. For the more experienced groups dry land training and early morning practices are incorporated into the schedule. All swimmers are encouraged to compete in the 3-4 scheduled small dual meets, but larger United States Swimming (USS) sanctioned meets are optional. Swim meets help develop an excitement for the sport, encourages more efficient training, and helps facilitate life-long friendships.
Fees vary according to level of participation and include team caps. The USS insurance fee is required for all swimmers. Team suits are optional (but encouraged) and order forms are given out at the fall registration meeting. Registration information will be posted on the team's bulletin board at the pool and is available on this website. Scholarships are available for those in need. New swimmers are encouraged to join OCSC; the only requirement is the ability to swim a 25 meter freestyle and back stroke.
