Congratulations to senior outfielder Ryan Pfister and his family on his decision to continue his playing career at Marian University beginning in 2013. Ryan becomes the second Knight to play at Marian as 2009 grad Dale Murawsky played there in 2010. Congratulations again, Ryan!

The passing of Tim Ungerecht on Monday has not fully registered in my mind as I sit and write this, and for the hundreds of short blurbs I've written on this website over the past 12 years, this is by far the most difficult. 10 years ago I had the opportunity to first meet Tim, and in time our relationship changed from one that existed mainly in passing, to a working relationship that very quickly became a strong friendship.
From the time I first coached his son Ryan in 6th grade basketball and worked with him at baseball camps, I began to learn about the type of person Tim was. The polite, respectful, and courteous demeanor that Ryan exhibited on a daily basis was a direct reflection of his parents. And when I did finally get the chance to sit down and talk with Tim, it did not take long to realize that his family meant the world to him. The amount of hours he spent coaching them, teaching them, watching them, cheering them and loving them no doubt consumed his life.
Somehow, he found time to also selflessly give up his time for other kids and families in Oak Creek as well. The positive impact he leaves on the young people he coached and mentored all those years will not be forgotten. He was quick to lend a hand to anyone that needed help, regardless of the project. If you needed a dugout, a batting cage, a scoreboard, an indoor pitching mound, a garbage disposal, a printer, someone to work a camp, or someone to scout a game, Tim was there with a smile and an unmatched willingness to give that just isn't seen all that often nowadays. And more importantly, he never wanted anything in return. In fact, he's probably mad at me right now for writing this.
I sat at my desk Monday afternoon and wrote out a "to do" list. The first item on my list was "Call Tim about open gym." I knew he would be willing to come to open gym Tuesday night and help out because....well, because I just knew he would. As it turns out, he'll continue to be at every open gym, and at every game and every function, because his memory will continue to live on in those of us that were lucky enough to know him. Thank you, Tim! You will be dearly missed!

They will team with former Knight Josh Jesko, who is currently a freshman at Iowa Lakes. Congratulations to both players and their families on this accomplishment.

If you are not in a winter sport, find your way to the weight room three to four days a week. If you're working out elsewhere, ask yourself if you're REALLY working out and putting yourself in a position to be successful in 2012! Don't go through the motions. Going through the motions will get you what you already have.
Find a workout partner and push each other. It is difficult to consistently motivate yourself week in and week out if you don't have a partner to push you. In addition to your weight work, develop a routine at home in terms of doing additional core work during down time (watching TV). Eat healthy and get at least 8 hours of sleep each night (preferrably 10pm-6am).
