Monday, July 23 BLITZ WINS ASA REGIONAL TOURNEY The Western Kentucky Blitz won three one-run games on Sunday to capture the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) 12-and-under Midwest Regional Championship at Upland, IN. The victory puts the Blitz into the ASA 12-and-under Fastpitch National Tournament on August 7-12 in Garland, TX. In the championship game the Blitz posted a 5-4 victory over Angels Elite of Bloomington, IL. Kaley Wethington was 2-for-4 at the plate. Earlier the Blitz defeated Chicago's Quad City Dreamers 5-4. Amanda Clark and Oliva Randolph scored the tieing and winning runs. Wethington belted an RBI triple. In Sunday's opener, the Blitz won 2-1 over Cincinnati's Queen City Ultimates. Kaley Wethington went 2-for-3. On Saturday the Blitz lost to Quad City 4-1 in their opener, but rebounded to post victories over Trevian Blue, IL 9-0, Indiana Breeze and Oak Park Ice, IL. Oliva Randolph drove in two run against Oak Park. The Western Kentucky Blitz have three players that play in the Owensboro Catholic softball program. They are Amanda Clark, Oliva Randolph and Kaley Wethington. Wednesday, July 18 OWENSBORO CATHOLIC LADY ACES SOFTBALL AWARD BANQUET The following awards were presented last night at the Owensboro Catholic Softball Awards Banquet: CAPTAINS: Elizabeth Church, Carrie Beth Jones, and Becky Nix. SENIOR AWARDS: Becky Nix and Serena Stiff. MOST STOLEN BASES: Becky Nix (17). MOST RUNS BATTED IN: Lauren Troutman (27). MOST IMPROVED: Haleigh Ashworth and Stephanie Coomes. HIGHEST BATTING AVERAGE: Becky Nix (.420). GOOD EYE AWARD: Becky Nix (19). BEST DEFENSIVE INFIELDER: Carrie Beth Jones (.975). BEST DEFENSIVE OUTFIELDER: Ashly Simmons (.900). Wednesday, July 11 BLITZ WIN ASA STATE TITLE The Owensboro-based Western Kentucky Blitz battled out of the loser's bracket to win five consecutive games and capture the American Softball Association 12-and-under State Fastpitch Softball Tournament in Bowling Green. The Blitz defeated the Elizabethtown Twisters 4-1 and 6-0 to win the title on Sunday. The Blitz were led offensively by Kaley Wethington. Amanda Clark and Oliva Randolph starred defensively. In other tourney games, the Blitz beat Meade County 18-0, stopped K.J. Sluggers 10-0, lost to E-town Twisters 4-0, defeated the Hopkinsville Dynamite 13-0, knocked off the K.J. Sluggers 6-0 and beat the LaRue County Lady Hawks 10-2. The tournament triumph advances the Blitz to the ASA 12-and-under Nationals Aug. 7-12 at Garland, Texas. Wednesday, July 11 KENTUCKY OUTLAWS FINISH SECOND IN STATE The Owensboro-based Kentucky Outlaws finished second in the State 16-and-under Amateur Softball Association Tournament in Bowling Green. In the title game on Sunday, the Kentucky Monarchs rallied for three seventh-inning runs to defeat the Outlaws 4-3. Earlier on Sunday, the Outlaws knocked off the Monarchs 3-2. Megan Jolly was the winning pitcher. In other tournament games, Elizabeth Church pitched a one-hitter as the Outlaws crushed Hopkinsville 11-1. Church and Stephanie Coomes each had three hits. The Outlaws lost to the Monarchs 5-3. The Outlaws beat Glasgow 7-3 led by Carrie Beth Jones two hits. Megan Jolly hurled a two-hitter and struckout 11 in the Outlaws' 4-0 shutout of the Central Kentucky Slammers. The Outlaws defeated Grayson County 8-0. Members of the Outlaws who play for Owensboro Catholic are Lauren Bell, Elizabeth Church, Stephanie Coomes, Megan Jolly, Carrie Beth Jones, and Lauren Troutman. The Outlaws are coached by Kerry Jolly. Saturday, June 16 COACH RANDOLPH NAMED TO SOFTBALL HALL OF FAME
Randolph will also coach the West team in the 5th Annual Kentucky East/West All-Star Game for high school seniors. Becky led Catholic High in hitting with a .447 batting average. Becky was also selected to play for the West team in the East-West All-Star Game. Friday, June 15 WARREN TO PLAY AT BRESCIA Former Owensboro Catholic High School third baseman Denise Warren has signed a national letter of intent to play softball next year for Coach Brad Huskisson and Brescia University. Warren, who attended Bellarmine University last year but did not play softball, was a member of Catholic's 1999 state championship team. Catholic is tied with Louisville Manual (2000 defending champions) with two state championships apiece. Owensboro Catholic won it's first state championship in 1998. Then the Lady Aces became the first team in state history to win two state championships in 1999. OCHS also became the first school to win back-to-back state championships and the first team to win the championship out of the loser's bracket. Thursday, May 24 ACES ADVANCE TO 3RD REGION TOURNAMENT The seventh-ranked Owensboro Catholic Aces will advance to the 3rd Region Softball Tournament as the runner-up in the 9th District Tournament. Second-ranked Daviess County defeated the Aces' in the district finals 6-0 to win the championship. The draw for the 3rd Region Tournament will be Sunday, May 27th at 2 p.m. at Daviess County High School. The following teams will participate in the tournament: Daviess County, Owensboro Catholic, Grayson County, Ohio County, Whitesville Trinity, Breckinridge County, Muhlenberg North and South. Wednesday, May 23 CATHOLIC VS. DAVIESS IN TITLE GAME No. 7 Owensboro Catholic will take on No. 2 Daviess County for the 9th District Softball Championship today at 5:30 p.m. at Daviess County High School. Daviess County defeated Owensboro 11-0 and Catholic defeated Apollo 4-1. Both teams will advance to next week's 3rd Region Tournament hosted by Daviess County. Brown Eye Girl Tuesday, May 22 ACES FACE APOLLO IN DISTRICT # 7 ranked Owensboro Catholic will be the home team today as Catholic faces Apollo in the second game of the 9th District Softball Tournament at 5:30 p.m. at Daviess County High School. The winner will advance to the finals to play Daviess County on Wednesday who beat Owensboro 11-0 yesterday. Jolly fired a no-hitter and struck out seven batters in the Lady Aces 9-0 victory over #20 Louisville Presentation Saturday at the UPS Midwest Catholic Challenge in Louisville. This is the second time Jolly has been named athlete of the week. Congratulations to Megan! Tuesday, May 1 FORMER LADY ACE MAKES ALL-CINFERENCE Former Owensboro Catholic player Mandy May (98) helped lead Spalding University to the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship this weekend. Spading defeated Brescia 9-0 on Sunday for the championship. Mandy was named to the KIAC all-conference team. May played on the Catholic team that won the state championship in 1998 as an outfielder. Who could ever forget the great diving catch she made to help seal the 3rd Region championship game against Daviess County. Congratulations to Mandy and her teammates! Tuesday, May 1 FORMER LADY ACE THROWS PERFECT GAME Former Owensboro Catholic All-State player Kara Houston (99) tossed a perfect game yesterday (3-28-01) as Bellarmine swept a doubleheader against visiting Union College. Houston who pitched for Owensboro Catholic's back-to-back State Championship teams in 1998 and 1999 struck out eight as Bellarmine won the nightcap 1-0. Houston is a sophomore pitcher and infielder for Bellarmine. She is teammate's with former Owensboro Catholic star Lori Libs who also played on Catholic's two State Championship teams and is also a sophomore infielder. Thursday, April 5 NIX PLAYER OF THE WEEK IN THE WEST Congratulations to first team all-state player and Miss Softball candidate Becky Nix on earning the Top Player of Week One for the west region. Nix was 16-of-22 in the opening week of the season for an avg. of .727. She was 9-of-12 for a .750 avg. in the John Overton Bobcat Classic in Nashville, Tennessee. She scored seven runs, had four doubles and three triples. She reached base safely her first eight at bats in the tournament. She hit .714 with runners in scoring position. Greenwood (146) Wednesday, April 4 CATHOLIC WINS SCRIMMAGE Sophomore Elizabeth Church and Freshman Megan Jolly combined to pitch a no-hitter and shutout the Lady Hornets of Hancock County 7-0 Wednesday night at Parents Park. Church pitched three hitless innings striking out seven and walking one. Jolly pitched four hitless innings striking out 10 and walking one batter. Offensively the Aces banged out 6 hits while scoring seven runs. Senior Becky Nix led the Aces going 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and one RBI. Junior Ashley Simmons went 2-for-3 with two singles, two runs scored, and one RBI. Sophomore Lauren Troutman went 1-for-3 with a single, one run scored and one RBI. Freshman Megan Jolly went 1-for-3 with a double and one run scored. Eighth grader Haleigh Ashworth pitched five innings allowing no hits and striking out five. The Aces had three hits. HANCOCK COUNTY 002 00 - 2 0 4 O'BORO CATHOLIC 012 2x - 5 3 2 Both teams will open up the regular season Monday, March 26. Catholic against Whitesville Trinity at Parents Park. Monday, April 2 ACES FINISH FIFTH IN OVERTON CLASSIC The Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces finished in a tie for fifth place in the 24 team John Overton Bobcat Classic in Nashville, TN. Catholic won their six team pool by going undefeated in pool play with a 3-0 record. Catholic defeated Whitwell 4-3, Davidson Academy 9-1, and Blackman 5-0. That qualified the Aces as one of four top seeds into a 16 team single elimination tournament. The Aces defeated Columbia High School 2-1 in the first round of the tournament. Beech High School with a record of 15-0 eliminated the Aces from the tournament by defeating the Lady Aces 8-1. Catholic finished the weekend with a 4-1 record. This is the second time that Owensboro Catholic has participated in this tournament. In 1999, Catholic, which was the first team from Kentucky to play in this classic finished in a tie for fifth place. The Aces also won the 1999 State Championship that year! GREAT JOB LADIES! Sunday, March 25 NIX AND CHURCH NAMED TO 2001 PRE-SEASON TOP 25 PLAYERS Congratulations to Senior Becky Nix and Sophomore Elizabeth Church for being named to the Pre-Season Top 25 Players Poll as voted on by the coaches. Wednesday, January 3 KARA HOUSTON N0. 1 The Kentucky Softball Coaches Association web page conducted a poll with this question: From 1995 to 2000 season, who was the best player in Kentucky H.S. Fastpitch Softball? The results show that Owensboro Catholic's Kara Houston was voted No. 1. Thanks to all the people who voted for Kara! Monday, November 27 KENTUCKY RENEGADES FINISH SECOND IN NATIONALS The Kentucky Renegades of Owensboro compiled a 6-2 record and finished second in the ASA 14-and-under Class B Eastern Nationals Softball Tournament in Marietta, Ga. The Renegades won their first six games to win the winner's bracket, then lost their last two games to Cherokee, Ga. in the championship. Cherokee, Ga. beat the Renegades 2-1 and 3-2. Several of the Renegades play for Owensboro Catholic: Elizabeth Church, Courtney Kaelin, Stephanie Kaelin, and Haleigh Ashworth, Stephanie Coomes, Megan Jolly, and Lauren Troutman. Monday, September 25 CATHOLIC No. 1 The Kentucky Softball Coaches Association web page conducted a poll with this question: What Kentucky High School team has been the most dominant in the six years of fast-pitch (1995-2000)? The results show that Owensboro Catholic was voted No. 1 getting 36% of the votes followed by Manual 25%, Reidland 14%, and North Laurel 8%. That's a credit to all the Lady Aces for the tradition and standards that you have set! Tuesday, August 29 OUTLAWS SECOND IN BLUEGRASS GAMES The Owensboro Outlaws finished second in the Bluegrass State Games girls' fastpitch softball under-16 division that was held at Harrodsburg. The London Blitz defeated the Outlaws 3-1 in the championship game. The Outlaws are made up of players from Owensboro, Muhlenberg, and Ohio Counties including Owensboro Catholic's Elizabeth Church, Laura Hodskins, and Carrie Beth Jones, Megan Jolly, Stephanie Coomes, and Lauren Troutman. Tuesday, August 29 OUTLAWS WIN ASA STATE The Owensboro Outlaws 16-and-under team claimed their second consecutive ASA State Softball Championship on Sunday, defeating the London Blitz 4-0 in Bowling Green. The Outlaws are made up of players from Owensboro, Muhlenberg, and Ohio Counties and include Owensboro Catholic's Elizabeth Church, Megan Jolly, Stephanie Coomes, Lauren Troutman and Carrie Beth Jones. Saturday, May 20 SIMS SIGNS WITH KWC Meredith Sims signed a letter-of-intent to continue her education and athletic career at Kentucky Wesleyan College yesterday (5-19-00). Meredith a two-year starter at catcher was a member of both the 1998 and 1999 state championship teams. Meredith will also play soccer. Congratulations Meredith! Friday, May 19 THREE SENIORS HONORED Before the Muhlenberg North game Owensboro Catholic honored three of the Lady Aces on Senior Night. Each of these ladies were members of the 1998 and 1999 state championship teams. All three have provided great leadership for this year's team and have set an example of how to act both on and off the field. They are Jill O'Bryan, Meredith Sims, and Denise Warren. Monday, May 8 LADY ACES RUNNER-UP IN TOURNEY #7 Owensboro Catholic was defeated by the #1 team in the state of Kentucky, North Laurel, by a score of 4-0 in the Championship game of the Lady Knights Tournament held in Lexington, KY May 5th and 6th. Catholic finished the tournament with a 4-1 record. Sunday, April 30 SILVER DIVISION CHAMPS Owensboro Catholic won the Silver Division of the Midwest Catholic Challenge in Louisville, KY on Saturday, May 15th. Catholic finished the tournament with a 4 and 1 record and defeated Louisville Presentation Academy in the championship game. Tuesday, April 9 ACES START DISTRICT PLAY WEDNESDAY #4 ranked Owensboro Catholic will begin 9th District league play when the Aces play at Apollo on Wednesday night and Owensboro Thursday night at Jack C. Fischer Park. District games standings determine the 9th District Tournament seeding. Wednesday, April 10 MIDDLESBORO BORDER WAR TOURNAMENT #4 ranked Owensboro Catholic will head to Middlesboro High School this weekend to participate in the Border War Tournament. The Aces will begin pool play Friday night at 9:30 PM against John Overton HS out of Tennessee at Middlesboro High School. The Aces will then continue pool play Saturday morning at 9:30 AM against Belfry at Middlesboro High School. Times are subject to change. Harlan is also in the pool with the Aces. Each of the tournaments 10 teams will advance from pool play to a single elimination tournament with seeding to determined the brackets. The championship game is scheduled for 6:30 PM at Middlesboro High School. Monday, April 15 CATHOLIC WINS BORDER WAR TOURNAMENT Owensboro Catholic won five games and brought home the championship trophy from the 1st Annual Border War Tournament held in Middlesboro, Kentucky. Catholic opened the tournament with a 5-0 victory over John Overton High School out of Nashville, TN. Catholic followed that up with a 24-2 win over Belfry. The Aces' then knocked off Knoxville Catholic 3-2 in 8 innings. In the semifinals Catholic defeated #12 Middlesboro 6-3. Catholic then won the championship game by defeating #5 Louisville Manual 8-3. Thursday, April 18 ASHWORTH NAMED M-I HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Freshman pitcher/outfielder Haleigh Ashworth was name the Messenger-Inquirer high school athlete for the week for April 18, 2002. Ashworth helped lead the #3 ranked Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces to the championship of the 1st Annual Border War Tournament in Middlesboro, Kentucky. Haleigh went 8-for-15 for a .533 batting average and had three RBIs and two runs scored. To start the tournament Haleigh had six consecutive hits in six at bats. Ashworth also went 3-0 pitching defeating #12 Middlesboro in the semifinals and #5 Louisville Manual in the championship. Haleigh struck out 15 batters and had an ERA of 2.18. Ashworth was also named to the all-tournament team. Thursday, April 18 #3 CATHOLIC PLAYS IN UPS/MIDWEST CATHOLIC CHALLENGE After winning the 1st Annual Border War Tournament in Middlesboro, Kentucky last weekend the Aces have little time to celebrate. This weekend the Aces travel to Louisville to play in the UPS/Midwest Catholic Challege. Owensboro Catholic ranked #3 in this weeks Top 25 poll is the only team from Kentucky in the Blue Divison of the tournament. The tournament will start out with pool play and then have a single elimination tournament. The Aces open against defending Indiana state champion Indianpolis Roncalli at 5:45 at Mount Washington City Park. Catholic will also play Scecina Memorial out of Indianapolis, IN and St Benedict from Cordova, TN on Friday night at Mount Washington. Saturday morning the Aces will play Father Ryan out of Nashville, TN at Southern High School. Wednesday, April 24 TOP 25 FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 22, 2002 The Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces fell a spot in this weeks Top 25 poll after going 1-4 in the Midwest Catholic Challenge in Louisville. There were a record 31 voters this week and once again, North Laurel is at the top of the poll. The Lady Jaguars received 17 first place votes while Greenwood pulled in 6 first place votes. Dunbar and Owensboro Catholic switched places as the Lady Bulldogs received five first place votes and edged out the Lady Aces by two points. Manual completed the top five. In action last week, North Laurel lost to the nations #1 team, the Fairfield California Falcons, 7-4. They lost to nationally ranked Carl Sandburg, 4-1 and #20 ranked Boardman, 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh. Libs a junior shortstop made first team All-GLVC. Houston a junior pitcher/second baseman made second team All-GLVC. Both players helped Bellarmine finish fourth in the GLVC Conference Tournament. In a close vote, Owensboro Catholic pulled in 400 points, two more than second-ranked Greenwood (398) and ten more than defending state champion, North Laurel. Dunbar finished fourth in the poll and Boone County moved into the top five. Owensboro Catholic won five games last week including the 2002 Sports Warehouse/Catholic Classic which featured five teams ranked in the Top 20. Friday, May 17 RANDOLPH COLLECTS 200TH WIN Owensboro Catholic Coach George Randolph collected his 200th win last night as Owensboro Catholic defeated Booneville 11-1. Catholic has an all-time record of 200-71-1 in its 7th season of fastpitch. Coach Randolph was inducted into the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame last year. CATHOLIC WINS 2002 SPORTS WAREHOUSE/CATHOLIC CLASSIC #4 Owensboro Catholic got timely hitting, good defense and great pitching to capture the 2002 Sports Warehouse/Catholic Classic. Catholic (21-8) defeated South Oldham (13-3) 3-0 in the title game. Pitcher Elizabeth Church started the game by giving up a leadoff walk. That was it! Church went on to retire the next 21 batters and was perfect after the first hitter. Wednesday, May 22 No. 1 CATHOLIC PLAYS FOR 9TH DISTRICT TITLE No. 1 Owensboro Catholic scored six runs in the bottom of the six to help defeat Owensboro 8-1 in the 9th District Tournament yesterday held at Jack C. Fisher Park. Elizabeth Church allowed two hits and struck out 12 and ran her pitching record to 18-5 for the season. Offensively Lauren Troutman went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Carrie Beth Jones went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Elizabeth Church went 2-for-4 with a RBI. Haleigh Ashworth had a double. Lauren Bell added a single. Stephanie Kaelin getting the start at catcher had two walks. Kaley Wethington walked three times. Sunday, May 26 SIX ACES MAKE ALL-9TH DISTRICT TEAM No. 1 ranked Owensboro Catholic placed six players on the 2002 All-9th District Team. 9th district coaches selected the team based on regular season play. Sunday, May 26 ACES RALLY TO WIN THE 9TH DISTRICT TITLE No. 1 Owensboro Catholic scored four runs in the last three innings including one run in the bottom of the seventh to defeat 9th district rivals No. 9 Daviess County 8-7 at Jack C. Fisher Park. Stephanie Coomes drew a one out bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Kaley Wethington for the game winner. In the sixth inning Courtney Kaelin drove in Lindsey Durbin to tie the game at 7-7. Kaelin had three RBIs for the game. Haleigh Ashworth (8-3) picked up the victory by holding the Lady Panthers scoreless in the last three innings. Catholic will now advance in post-season play to the 3rd Region Tournament to be held at Grayson County Memorial Day week. This is the third time that Owensboro Catholic has captured the 9th district crown. The Lady Aces won it in 1997 and again in 1999. Both of those seasons the Aces went on to win the 3rd region crown and advance to the state tournament finishing in 5th place in '97 and winning their second state championship in '99. Wednesday, May 29 LADY ACES STING THE HORNETS No. 3 ranked Owensboro Catholic scored early and often and never looked back as they defeated the Lady Hornets of Hancock County 12-0 in semifinal play of the 3rd Region Tournament. Elizabeth Church (20-5) and Haleigh Ashworth combined to pitch a two-hitter and struck out 10. Catholic was led offensively by Lauren Troutman who went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Haleigh Ashworth went 2-for-3 with a triple and a RBI. Tiffany Mattingly went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs. Catholic (28-8) will now face Grayson County (22-18) in the title game of the 3rd Region Tournament. 2002 LADY ACES - 3RD REGION CHAMPIONS Owensboro Catholic is headed to the state tournament for the second consecutive year after defeating Grayson County 2-0 in the 3rd Region Tournament. All-State candidate Elizabeth Church (21-5) may have pitched her best game ever for Catholic allowing just one hit and facing the minimum amount of batters (21). Church had a perfect game going until a pinch hit single in the sixth inning. Elizabeth had nine strikeouts. Owensboro Catholic got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when junior all-state candidate Lauren Troutman tripled to right, and catcher Stephanie Coomes followed with a sacrifice fly to right-center. In the fifth, the Lady Aces added another run. Tiffany Mattingly singled and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Courtney Kaelin. Lindsey Durbin then came in for Mattingly as a pinch runner. Durbin stole third base and then scored when Kaley Wethington was safe on a throwing error after hitting a chopper in front of the plate. Catholic (29-8) out scored their opponents in the tournament 26-0.

Church, who helped lead the Lady Aces to a fourth-place finish in this year's state tournament, finished the season with a 23-7 record and an ERA of 0.61. Church had 11 shutouts and struck out 211 hitters in 194 innings. Church also made the all-state tournament team, 3rd Region all-=tournament team and the All-9th District team. Wednesday, June 19 TROUTMAN NAMED HONORABLE MENTION ALL-STATE Owensboro Catholic junior shorstop Lauren Troutman was named an honorable mention all-state selection. Troutman, who hit .310, led the Lady Aces with 28 RBIs. She was third on the team in hits with 39, led the team in doubles with 12 and triples with 4. Troutman also made the all-state tournament team, 3rd Region all-tournament team and the All-9th District team. Wednesday, August 21 NIX TRANSFERES TO BRESCIA Former Owensboro Catholic High School softball standout Becky Nix has transferred to Brescia University after spending her freshman year at Kentucky Wesleyan College, Lady Bearcats coach Brad Huskisson has announced. Nix, who will play outfield at Brescia, hit .219 in 31 games at KWC last spring. She hit three doubles, drove in seven runs and posted a fielding percentage of .891. At Catholic, Nix was an all-stater who batted .447 as a senior before undergoing offseason knee surgery. She was designated hitter on the 1999 Lady Aces team, which won the state championship. Peanuts Theme Wednesday, August 21 LYONS RECOVERING AT HOME Owensboro Catholic sophomore Haley Lyons is back at home with her mother recuperating from a staphylococcus infection. Haley has also battled a coma and was threatened with heart and kidney failure. Initially, doctors doubted her chance for surviving the infection or the many complications associated with it. Lyons will continue to face a great deal of physical therapy following the amputation of one of her feet and must await additional testing before she heads back to Owensboro Catholic. Haley was a member of the Lady Aces freshman softball team. Thursday, September 26 RISING STAR SHOWCASE Megan Jolly, Lauren Troutman and Stephanie Coomes will represent the Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces softball team when they participate in the Rising Stars Showcase Tournament. Monday, March 25 JOLY HAS SURGERY Sophomore pitcher Megan Jolly underwent back surgery at Jewish Hospital in Louisville Kentucky yesterday (2-28-02). Reports are that the surgery went well. Sacred Heart 49 Friday, June 20 2003 KENTUCKY FASTPITCH STATE CHAMPIONS Owensboro Catholic defeated Louisville Mercy 6-2 to capture the 2003 Kentucky Fastpitch State Championship in Hopkinsville. The Lady Aces become the first team in the state to capture three state titles (1998, 1999, 2003). The Lady Aces have played in the championship game four of the past six seasons. Friday, June 20 CHURCH NAMED MVP OF STATE TOURNAMENT Elizabeth Church of Owensboro Catholic ended her high school softball career by being named the 2003 MVP of the State Tournament. That is Elizabeth's second State Championship (1999, 2003). Elizabeth finished this season with an unbelievable record of 19-1. Friday, June 20 ALL-STATE TOURNAMENT TEAM Elizabeth Church won the MVP award for the 2003 Kentucky Fastpitch State Championship. Joining Elizabeth on the All-State Tournament Team were teamates Megan Jolly, Stephanie Coomes and Carrie Beth Jones. Monday, November 3 CATHOLIC PLAYERS STAR IN SHOWCASE Kentucky Monarchs at Rising Stars Showcase Plantation, Florida Last weekend, led my Miss Kentucky Softball candidate, Megan Jolly, the Kentucky Monarchs finished with a 4-1 record at the Rising Stars Showcase in Plantation, Florida. The Monarchs was the only Kentucky team among the 90 elite teams from 21 states. During three games, Megan (Sr., Owensboro Catholic HS) pitched 10 innings of scoreless softball striking out 17 batters and giving up only three hits. In the Monarchs final game against the Virginia Legends, Megan recorded nine strikeouts in four innings of work while giving up only one hit. Michelle Critchelow (Jr., Grayson County) also pitched ten innings of scoreless softball in four appearances. Michelle struck out nine batters and gave up three hits. Other pitchers included Haleigh Ashworth (Jr., Owensboro Catholic HS), Kalyn Fox ( Jr., Calloway County HS), Jamie Ogles (So., Allen County - Scottsville HS) and Ashley Stovall (So., Allen County - Scottsville HS) Team pitching statistics for the five games were: (ERA = 0.62 / IP = 34 / SO = 47 / BB = 8 / H = 19 / R = 5 / ER = 3) Offensively, Beth Glasscock (Jr. Grayson County) led the Monarchs with a slugging percentage of .833 which included a double, a triple and a home run. Ashley Cooksey (Sr., Allen County - Scottsville HS) recorded seven hits and had the highest batting average with .467. Ashley led the Monarchs in steals with two. Jolly helped led the Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces to their third state fastpitch championship last year. She went 18-3 with a 0.64 earned run average last season and struck out 261 batters and walked just 21 in 143 innings. Megan was a member of the All-9th District team, All-3rd Region Tournament team and was named 2nd team All-State. Megan was also named to the All-State Tournament team, the Lady Knight All Tournament team and a member of the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region 2nd team. She was the only player from Kentucky to be slected. Megan is also a candidate for the 2004 Kentucky Miss Softball title. Jolly is also a honor student and a member of the student council. The Lady Aces won the program's fourth state softball championship last June at Hopkinsville's Tie-Breaker Park. Randolph previously led Catholic to state titles in 1999, 1998 and 1996 (slow pitch).
